Cuddyer, Helton blast Rockies past Astros

Colorado improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-4 victory over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

New addition, Michael Cuddyer, belted a two-run home run to left field and Todd Helton continued his hot start; he hit a two-run double in the fourth and added an RBI single in the fifth.

49-year-old starter, Jamie Moyer, picked up the win, No. 268 in his career. Moyer went six innings and allowed four runs, with all runs scored via the home run. Rafael Betancourt worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to earn his second save in as many days.

The Colorado Rockies overcame a 4-2 ninth inning deficit against the Houston Astros and escaped Minute Maid Park with a 5-4 victory.

Houston closer Brett Myers had a rough outing, as he failed to record an out and gave up three runs. Carlos Gonzalez led off the inning with a solo home run to leftfield, to bring the Rockies within a run. Troy Tulowitzki nearly went yard, hitting a ball off the wall in left for a double. He scored on a single by Todd Helton.

That was all for Myers, but the Rockies didn't stop the offensive attack. Ramon Hernandez hit a liner to left-center that Houston's Jordan Schaefer tried to catch on a dive, but missed and the ball rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Helton to score and Hernandez to advance all the way to third.

Up 5-4, Colorado's closer, Rafael Betancourt, quickly warmed up in the bullpen, and following a one-pitch out by Matt Belisle, retired the last two batters to end the game.

The Rockies' bats were silenced early by Houston starter, Wandy Rodriguez. Despite issuing three walks and striking out just three, Rodriguez carried a no-hitter into the sixth, before allowing a one-out RBI single to Marco Scutaro.

Colorado's Josh Roenieke picked up the win in relief of starter, Jeremy Guthrie, who gave up three home runs and four runs in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Colorado Rockies: Return of Rocktober?

The Colorado Rockies enter the 2012 season with major question marks surrounding the starting rotation. Jeremy Guthrie, recently acquired from Baltimore, has been pegged as the Opening Day starter and will be the team's No. 1 starter, at least until Jorge de la Rosa returns from Tommy John surgery.

49-year-old Jamie Moyer earned a spot in the rotation after a solid Spring Training. Jhoulys Chacin, Juan Nicasio and Drew Pomeranz, who is starting the year in Triple A, but will make his first start on April 15.

The lineup has received quite the makeover from 2011, but Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Todd Helton and Dexter Fowler all return, and will be counted on to have solid, productive seasons. Jason Giambi, Chris Nelson, Jordan Pacheco, Wilin Rosario, Jonny Hererra and Tyler Colvin make up the bench, while newcomers Marco Scutaro (2B), Michael Cuddyer (RF) and Ramon Hernandez (C) are new to the starting lineup.

If the Rockies' starting pitching can hold up, the team stands a good chance of contending in the always unpredictable NL West. With a solid offense and steady bullpen, led by closer Rafael Betancourt and middle man Matt Belisle, the Rockies hope to bring back Rocktober in 2012.

DJ's Adventures with Analog: MLB 11 The Show

As some of you know, I've been going back and forth, back and forth when it comes to using Analog control in MLB 11 The Show. Well, after a lot of internal debate, I've finally decided to commit 100% to the Analog controls, and this blog will chronicle my struggles, and (hopefully) successes using the new control scheme.

First, let's look at my starting settings.

I'll be hitting on Veteran, pitching on Hall of Fame and fielding/throwing on Veteran. Sliders will be at default, aside from Reliver Stamina (-2 clicks), CPU Strike Frequency (-2 clicks) and Pitch Speed (-2 clicks).

I am using a Custom Camera for hitting, based on Wide Offset. For pitching, I'll be using Broadcast for Spring Training and Away games and for games at Coors Field, I'll be using a Custom Camera that has the Analog pitch meter shrunken and lowered so as to not obstruct the view near home plate.

I usually skip Spring Training, but I figure with the new controls, I'll be like a real MLB player and be able to sharpen my skills before Opening Day.

Madden 10 Franchise: Buffalo Bills

After going back and forth, back and forth and back and forth again with sliders and settings for Madden 10, I've finally decided to stop messing around. I've picked a set, made some tweaks to fit my style of play and am ready to get the ball rolling on a Franchise. Since I won't be buying Madden 11 (purchasing every-other-year for sports titles), I figure I'll get in a fair number of seasons.

I didn't want to use the New York Giants (my favorite team), since they are pretty stacked and I am looking more at a long-term rebuilding project. That left me to choose between St. Louis, Detroit, Oakland, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Buffalo. I chose the Bills, mostly b/c I'm still familiar with that team having grown up in NY and several of my close friends are Bills fan; and I've been to Orchard Park for a couple of games.

I'm using Valdarez's Simulation Sliders and playing 12-minute quarters with 15-second runoff.
