NHL commissioner Gary Bettman made some waves the other day when he mentioned that the NHL "is listening" to cities when it comes to possible expansion. While there are no formal plans, there certainly was a boastful tone to Bettman's bluster when he was cooing about how the NHL has the hammer, so to speak, and is enjoying some level of financial solvency.

Here is the full list of affected players:

Hot Streak Players

It's been an interesting NHL season so far, with the usual beasts like Pittsburgh, Boston and Chicago looking quite strong, but then there's the emergence of Colorado, Toronto and San Jose as forces to be reckoned with. San Jose is actually the least surprising, since their youth, size and skill are now finally paying dividends, and their former stars (read: Joe Thornton) can quietly ... Read More

EA has released patch v1.01 for NHL 14, and it affects almost all aspects of the game. Some users on the EA forums are (rightfully) annoyed that certain gameplay issues weren't addressed, but at least EA did address a lot of bugs, glitches and balance problems that were present in the various modes on offer for NHL 14.

Here's the official release from EA.

Besides the slight modifications to goalie equipment and an adjustment to the depth of the nets, the biggest change for this year's NHL season has been hybrid icing. The goal of the rule is to prevent heinous injuries to players, like the one that felled Joni Pitkanen of the Carolina Hurricanes. Pitkanen was racing down the ice after a potential icing when he crashed into the boards and broke his heel. This scenario has all sorts ... Read More

My EASHL team, Lando Commando, has had a fairly good time with the first week or so of EASHL action. We've been able to get up to Div 6 in that time (schedule permitting), and now we're starting to bump up against some of the more "seasoned" veterans in the mode. We've been playing in the EASHL for the entire time it's been around, and the mode still has an amazing co-op experience, even if there can be some frustrations form time ... Read More

After playing some more NHL 14 this week, I'm still having a fun time with the new elements, including the improved skating and defense as well as the dramatically better hitting and fighting. It's been fun to have the "seasons" feature for EASHL and HUT, and even OTP is working a bit better now thanks to the improved check-in process before games.

At the same time, there's been lots of feedback from around the web ... Read More

Having spent a good deal of time with NHL 14 now, I feel I can say with some confidence that the gameplay is a strong improvement over last year's version. The added physicality really helps define an aspect of the gameplay that had been lacking up until now, and the team at EA Vancouver has made some other smart changes that are more of the iterative variety.

The two most successful elements this year are the new ... Read More

Something I've been thinking about recently, especially in relation to the feedback about the NHL 14 demo, is the realities of an actual sport as compared to what is actually "fun" when played in a videogame. Everyone has their own concept of what is real, what is fun, and what should be represented in a videogame. People often use qualifiers of how much hockey they play or watch in order to weigh-in on the particulars of the on-ice ... Read More

The demo for NHL 14 has been released, and now everyone is getting a chance to say what they think about the new hitting and fighting as well as the changes to skating, deking and defense. The demo more or less reinforces what I felt about the game from my E3 impressions, as I like the changes to gameplay, generally speaking, but I'm still not too enthused about the aged presentation and weak new modes (Live the Life, NHL 94 Anniversary). ... EA has released a final blog detailing the collisions, incidental contact and goalie interference changes for NHL 14. A lot of these items are just refinements of what was already in last year's game, and some of them are even revived features that were present in NHL 12. For the most part, these iterations will be welcome, but the default sliders will dictate the impact of some of the key changes. ... Read More

EA has finally posted a blog with a trailer and some details about the new "Live the Life" mode for NHL 14. The mode is a long-awaited revamp of the Be-A-Pro career option that's been present in the NHL series for the last few years. Many fans of the series were hopeful that this new spin on a career mode would freshen up the stale Be-A-Pro experience, especially if it was to borrow elements from the ... Read More
