Explaining the Texans vs Jaguars Game
Posted on November 20, 2012 at 12:50 PM.
Ok there really isn't an easy way to explain this. It's hard to defend an 8-1 team going into overtime with a 1-8 team. But that's what I'm about to try and do.

First off I don't think any Texans fan was happy with that win against Jacksonville. It looked ugly, our defense looked pitiful and quite frankly the whole team just looked bad in the first half. The second half I have no problem explaining. The Texans pulled it together and out willed the Jaguars to win the game. But I think we can start this explanation with a guy named Chad Henne.

If anyone predicted Chad Henne to come into the game for Blaine Gabbert and make the offense click you should start reading fortunes. Chad Henne surprised just about everyone with the way he ran the offense. This is a prime example of experience versus talent. Gabbert may have more talent than Henne but Henne has years of pro experience with his only lapse being his lack of playing time with this particular offense. I'm actually kind of shocked Henne has been a back up this whole time. I understand that Jacksonville wants to develop a young QB but come on, you need to at least TRY to win a few games this year.

On the same side of the ball where did Justin Blackmon come from?! This guy had done virtually nothing all year and then against one of the top defenses in the league he puts up 236 yards with an 81 yard touchdown. This isn't the kind of thing you would expect Blackmon to do every week but a performance like this after his other games racking up less than 50 yards makes him look like a selective effort kind of guy. I'm not saying he doesn't try his hardest every day, but if you can put up these numbers against the Texans, how can you only have 3 catches for 25 yards against the Colts?

Let's go on the other side of the field and try to help the defense out. Well honestly I can't. When you're a top 10 defense in the NFL you have to be able to stop one of the worst offenses and the defense couldn't. Giving up two 50+ yard touchdowns in a game is just bad. Chad Henne shouldn't throw 4 TDs against the Texans defense. A Jacksonville team without MJD which just makes this worse. Every defense has an off week. I'm just glad it was this week.

And even with this I'm still willing to say that a win is a win. It was ugly, it shouldn't have ended the way it did, but the end result is all that matters. A bad outing against Jacksonville is a shocker for the Texans, but in the end it's all about what column the game goes under.
