Valenzuela Grabs CL Best Batter Award for April
Friday, May 1st, 2161: Free agent-to-be Roberto Valenzuela has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month. In April, the 30-year-old Napa Valley right fielder hit .311 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs. If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year. Jason Hooper Selected April's Best Batter Friday, May 1st, 2161: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Jason Hooper can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 32-year-old first baseman for Hammersmith was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate. In April he batted .323 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored. |
Gothams Espinosa April's #1 Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2161: Veteran Javier Espinosa put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Baltimore Gothams, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. Espinosa racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 0.99 ERA over 36.1 innings and striking out 31. RL Pick for Top Pitcher in April is Scruggs Friday, May 1st, 2161: It was a very good month for Chris Scruggs in April. The 36-year-old veteran starter for the Hammersmith Hooligans outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today. Scruggs ran up a 4-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 36.1 innings he fanned 12 and recorded a 2.97 ERA. |
Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2161: Youngster Markus Welsh emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Napa Valley deserved the honor, batting .321 with 2 home runs and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Welsh enjoy the limelight. RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Friday, May 1st, 2161: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Adam Wolf just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April. Over the past month the 24-year-old center fielder for Hammersmith hit .407 with 24 hits, 2 home runs and 13 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .478 on-base percentage. |

Ávila Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor
Monday, June 1st, 2161: Ricardo Ávila is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Brooklyn shortstop joined that select company when the Continental League announced the results of May's voting. Ávila totaled 32 hits, 8 walks, 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and 24 runs scored last month to put together a .340 batting average and .427 on-base percentage. Ávila is hitting .339 for the season with 5 home runs, 27 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has 62 hits in 183 at-bats and played in 50 games. Moreno Snags RL Batting Honor in May Monday, June 1st, 2161: Víctor Moreno walked away with the Republic League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in May. The Chico left fielder hit .347 with 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored. In 50 games Moreno is hitting .313 this season with 57 hits, 10 home runs, 27 RBIs, 38 walks, .432 OBP and has scored 34 runs. |
CL's Top Pitcher in May Is López
Monday, June 1st, 2161: The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Continental League trophy went to Brooklyn hurler Júlio López for his strong performance in May. During the month, López was impressive with a 3.12 ERA and 5 wins and 1 loss. In 40.1 innings he struck out 34 and gave up 38 hits and 11 walks. Presently López has a 7-2 mark in 11 starts with a 3.97 ERA. He has given up 68 hits in 68 innings, struck out 53 and issued 22 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .265 batting average against him. Colorado Starter Selected Best Pitcher Monday, June 1st, 2161: Ralph Young's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in May, the 27-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 22 in 34.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.57 and allowed opponents to hit .205 against him. Checking out his stats for the year, Young has racked up 6 wins and 2 losses in 10 starts, 2.51 ERA and struck out 45 batters in 71.2 innings. |
Top CL Rookie of the Month Named
Monday, June 1st, 2161: Tim Durham was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old catcher definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting. In 24 games Durham batted .351 for Halifax, slapping 34 hits in 97 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 19 runs and scored 23 times. So far this season Durham is batting .277 with 8 home runs. RL Names Ann Arbor's Homer Top Rookie Monday, June 1st, 2161: Harvey Homer is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In May the Ann Arbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .320 average with 33 hits, 11 home runs and 27 RBIs. This season Homer has banged out 55 hits in 203 at-bats for a .271 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .324 pace and his totals also include 35 RBIs and 29 runs scored. |

CL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: When guys like Baltimore's Dave Dean win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 29 hits in 92 at-bats. The veteran center fielder hit for a .315 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored. For the season Dean has produced 73 hits in 263 at-bats for a .278 average with 14 home runs and gotten on base at a .387 clip. Ray Takes Best Bat Trophy in June Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Craig Ray put together a solid offensive month for Hammersmith and was crowned June's top batter in the Republic League. He batted .364 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 24 runs scored. This season Ray is swinging the bat at a .310 pace. He has hit 24 home runs and scored 66 times, while driving in 68. His on-base percentage is .372 and he has played in 79 games. |
Pitcher of the Month Named in CL
Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: It was a sensational June for Lucien Martel as he mystified, mesmerized and terrorized opposing batters to capture the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy. Martel locked down a 5-0 mark in 5 starts last month, striking out 23 while walking 4 in 38.1 innings and posting a 1.88 ERA. This year Martel has compiled a 10-2 mark with a 2.06 ERA. Oprel Best RL Starter Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Reginald Oprel still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 34-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 28 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.32 ERA in 42.2 innings of work. Thus far this season Oprel has posted a 11-4 record, started 16 games, struck out 83 batters in 115.2 innings and compiled a 2.72 ERA. |
CL Selects Rookie of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: Tim Durham's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Halifax catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .307 with 2 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Durham also scored 16 times and drove in 15 runs. Posting a .288 batting average to date, Durham has 12 home runs and 47 RBIs. Plummer Gets RL Rookie of Month Honors Wednesday, July 1st, 2161: Max Plummer earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Ann Arbor second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Plummer hit .333 with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 12 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. This season Plummer is hitting .298 with 100 hits, 5 home runs, 31 RBIs, scored 38 runs and played in 78 games. |

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced
Friday, July 10th, 2161: Half of the season has been played and now it's time for the All Star game! It's a game where the fans will get to see their favorite players compete on the same field together, a game where the players themselves become fans and all of baseball comes together to celebrate one of the great traditions of the game -- the Front Office Offseason League All-Star game. Jesús Ramos is July's #1 Hitter in CL
Saturday, August 1st, 2161: Jesús Ramos, the Baltimore Gothams first baseman, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with July's Continental League Batter of the Month award. He slashed and bashed his way to a .387 batting average while tallying up 7 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 10 walks and a .448 on-base percentage. For the year Ramos is batting .344 with 131 hits and 25 home runs. He has scored 64 times and driven in 58. Crosby Wins Best Bat Award in July Saturday, August 1st, 2161: Fans, friends and family were cheering today when Michael Crosby received July's Republic League Batter of the Month Award. Crosby stung the ball all month, posting a .320 batting average with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Crosby is presently hitting at a .244 pace with 22 home runs and 63 RBIs. He has played in 101 games and scored 56 times. |

Espinosa checked opposing batters on 26 base hits and a .210 batting average. He rang up 35 strikeouts in 34.1 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a 2.36 ERA. This year Espinosa has compiled a 11-5 mark with a 3.19 ERA in 20 starts. RL Top Pitcher for July Picked Saturday, August 1st, 2161: July's elite pitcher was Reginald Oprel of Colorado. He silenced Republic League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Oprel restricted opposing hitters to a .197 batting average. Saturday, August 1st, 2161: This month Tim Durham bashed, belted and battered just about every Continental League pitcher in his path as he put up some substantial numbers to win the Rookie of the Week honors. Day in and day out throughout July, the Halifax catcher punished opposing teams with base hits, finishing with a .287 average. Durham went 23-80 in 20 games with 5 home runs, 11 RBIs, and 8 runs scored. During the current season Durham is batting at a .288 clip with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs. He has played in 95 games and scored 59 times. Ann Arbor Rookie Biggest Vote-Getter in RL Saturday, August 1st, 2161: Ann Arbor's Max Plummer collected 32 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for July. He batted .299 with no home runs, 9 RBIs and 14 runs scored. The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace. So far this season Plummer has hit .298 with 5 home runs, 40 RBIs and and scored 52 times. |

Actually, little remembered fact, IIRC--SkyDog was an original member of FOOL. He lasted four seasons, I think.

McCromley Snares CL Top Batter Award in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2161: On the heels of a very productive August, Bill McCromley received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today. The battle-tested right fielder hit .352 for the Halifax Winter Wolves and racked up 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs scored. For the season McCromley is hitting .281, batted in 78 runs with 26 home runs and 70 runs scored. RL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Flores Tuesday, September 1st, 2161: Jorge Flores earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League by reeling off a .400 average, going 42 for 105 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 23 runs scored. The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Hartford clubhouse and around the rest of the league. So far this year in 129 games Flores is hitting .291 with 27 home runs, 86 RBIs and 93 runs scored. |
Gingras CL Winner, Top Hurler in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2161: Gilbert Gingras really put his best foot forward in August with 3 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Continental League. When he got the start for the Baltimore Gothams, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition. In 38 innings of work, Gingras limited opposing batters to 37 base hits and a .248 batting average. He notched 41 strikeouts, issued 8 walks and had a 1.89 ERA. Gingras has made 26 starts this season, posting 11 wins and 5 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .232 against him and he has 168 strikeouts in 167 innings with a 2.05 ERA. González Wins Best RL Pitcher Tuesday, September 1st, 2161: August's standout hurler was Félix González of Hartford. He muzzled Republic League hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award. To win the honor González compiled an impressive 3-1 mark and 1.91 ERA in 5 starts. The Harpooners star hurler also rung up 21 strikeouts in 33 innings. This season González has gone 11-9 with an ERA of 4.48, posting 129 strikeouts in 174.2 innings. |

Dean Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2161: The Continental League Batter of the Month has been chosen for September and the trophy was presented to Dave Dean of the Baltimore Gothams. He stood out this month with a .309 batting average, 29 hits and 10 home runs, along with 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored. This season Dean is batting .280 with 150 hits, 33 home runs, 94 RBIs, 89 walks, .389 OBP and has scored 96 runs. He has played in 151 games. Republic League Selects September's Best Batter Thursday, October 1st, 2161: Today Burt Moore was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for October. During the month the 29-year-old Ann Arbor third baseman compiled a .412 batting average. Most importantly for the Winged Lingerines though, he also posted 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and 16 runs scored. For the season Moore has produced 165 hits in 549 at-bats for a .301 average with 16 home runs and gotten on base at a .382 clip. |
Best Pitcher Picked by Continental League
Thursday, October 1st, 2161: Which Continental League hurler dominated in the month of September? According to the voters who decide the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award, it was Grant O'Higgins of the Napa Valley Winemakers. He put together a record of 3-0 with an ERA of 1.99 in 5 starting assignments. In addition, he struck out 31 in 31.2 innings. In 30 starts this year O'Higgins has fashioned a 9-9 record and a 3.12 ERA. September's Top Starter is Nakamura Thursday, October 1st, 2161: Kichisaburo Nakamura will be bringing September's Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Colorado. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping. Nakamura started 5 games, going 4-0 with 20 strikeouts in 36.1 innings as he compiled his 2.97 ERA. This season Nakamura has compiled a 16-5 mark with a 3.01 ERA. |
