(signup/Interest) OOTP 13 "Random Debut" Historical League
This is a sign-up sheet for a "random debut" fictional historical league:
Things to be decided on: 1) Starting year: I suggested 1955, as that gives us a good range of different eras to go through (the big hitters of the 50's and early 60's, the big pitching era of the mid-late 60's etcetera) 2) Size of League: I would suggest that we keep it relatively small: My preference would be one of the following: a)12 teams: (either 2 6 team leagues, or 1 big 12 team league, if it's 2 six team leagues I suggest only having the World Series, if it's one big twelve team league, either the top two or four make the playoffs. b)16 team leagues (either two 8 team leagues, or two eight team leagues with two divisions of four in each league). If it's straight eight team leagues, I suggest top two in each league make playoffs, if it's two four team divisions per league, I suggest division champions make playoffs) c)20 team league (suggested four five team divisions, with either two or four play off teams per league, but we could do big 10 team leagues if suggested) I would suggest that the better way to handle things is without divisions, so folks can take over a team and move them without having to mess around with divisions, (for example, if the New York Legends owner quit and the new owner wanted to put it in LA, we wouldn't have LA in the east) 3) Rules: a) Roster rules: 25 man main roster, with AAA (not requiring it to be complete). I personally would like DH rule on, but will go with majority. b) Forty Man Roster: I suggest we turn 40 man rule off. c) Financials: Hopefully, it's possible to import financial modifiers for the appropriate year, while removing the reserve rule (so that players whose contracts expire become free agents, rather then be bound to the same team year after year) this is to prevent bad teams from being unable to rebuild If interested, post team name: (Please, keep it semi-realistic and respectful. Sign up sheet: 1. SirFozzie, Boston Gold Sox (Commish?) 2. Chubby, New York Ponzis 3. PurdueBrad, Pittsburgh Predators 4. cartman, Texas Wildcatters 5. ChiefRum, Los Angeles Desperados 6. |
I'm in and would like to be the Indianapolis 500s.
I saw Markus recommend today that you use reserve rosters for a random debut league. Players develop fine on a reserve roster. The way you want to set up financials is 100% doable. |
I should say that I have absolutely NO graphics skills so I may end up being the Pittsburgh something-else's depending on what logo I can find.
|
What is a reserve roster? How is that different from other kinds of rosters?

It's basically an old school minor league system without the actual minor league. You have a list of players you control, and they sit there until you put them on your major league team. |

Ah ha...do they improve? I actually like to have operating minor leagues myself, although that's just about personally following player development, without considering if the reserve system is better suited for a random debut league. |
Think I've got everyone so far, check out the first post and update here if I've missed anything
|
Oops my fault. When it was random debut, I thought it was using real teams, not fictional. :D Just now realized we have a baseball sim forum here too.
|
Still need a few more signups.
|
In for the win!
Wausau werewolves -- Wisconsin. |
I'm in.
San Francisco Seals |
This sounds fun. Hilton Head (South Carolina) Hurricanes.
|
Ok, we're at the minimum for a twelve team league, but I'll leave signups open for a few days to try to push to 16 (and to build a waiting list)
|
Please see the following thread for league options and vote if you're going to be in the RDHL.

I'm in. I've never played in an OOTP league, so go easy on me. I'll be the Detroit Demolition.
|
Since I don't think Pittsburgh can support two teams, I'm going to locate in Charlotte where the owner used to live. My team will be Charlotte Quakers.

Henry, if you would prefer Pittsburgh, I can pick somewhere else like New Orleans, Las Vegas, or San Antonio. Let me know! Brad |

Don't worry about it. What are we doing about market size. Both Charlotte and Pittsburgh are about the same I think. |
Sounds like a cool idea I am in with the Las Vegas Aces.
|
This sounds like fun, never done an OOTP online league but this seems like THE version.
From the old PCL we will bring back the Salt Lake Bees |
Just a quick update, I'll be trying a test league (because what I may have to do to set this up is create a historical league, delete all the teams, and set up all the fictional teams) later this week (power supply on my OOTP machine is toasted, so I'm posting this on a laptop), in preperation for the next patch
|
It's been a long time since I've been in a league, but I'd like to get my name on the list if still possible.
Stupid question but does the city name have to be the actual city name or can it be a nickname. I'd like to be the Circle City Kings which is actually Corona, Ca which is a suburb of LA (or maybe more realistically... Anaheim). |
It can be a nickname. Willow Glen isn't even really a suburb, just a portion of town.
|
further update: The power supply has to be replaced, and we have an order in. I will update when my OOTP computer is back online.

I think you can try to just rename the teams and move them if we start in an era with 16 teams. |

Interested ... but no mention of sim schedule or how many games will be simmed each sim ... important info for me. Thanks.
|
Is this still alive?
|
waiting on getting my computer back, still, unfortunately.. when the person who built the machine and is the person who can fix the machine is working 65 hour weeks (and gave me a lap top to pass the time while waiting), I can't complain too much.. well I can, but it won't do any good.
|
I am going to withdraw my interest in this league. I've kind of moved on to other things at this point.
Good luck folks! |
I won't have time to possibly join, but I will advise that you consider not using OOL. I don't know why it didn't work for me when i was setting up the PCJBL, but I was about hulk computer monitor smash angry.
|
Given the lack of discussion here, I'm assuming this idea has died, but if not, I'd be interested in joining. Just got the game and looking for a league to join.
