Free Browser Games That Are Fun Time-Wasters
Got hooked into this one:
JUMP SERVE - College Volleyball Simulation Game Womens' college volleyball sim. Very simple and basic. No strategy involved other than one-click recruiting and then selecting your final 8 players on tryout day. Yet it's oddly addicting. I took UNLV from Mountain West bottom feeder to Elite 8 team by my 5th season. Starting my 6th year now and it should be my best one. Kelly Sousa, a junior, is my first ever All-American. There's also Olubunmi Iisakka, another junior who is the only player in my tenure to be All-Conference all three seasons she's played... not even Sousa did that. We have a couple other All-Conference players. One's a senior who got her first nod there. The other is Sheeka Demars, a sophomore I thought could have made it her freshman season. This might finally be the season we knock off the BYU behemoth. They've won the conference every single year so far, although one season, #4 I think, they won a tiebreaker with Wyoming. The Pokes were the #2 power in the conference for most of six years, but last season they regressed to a mid-tier team. San Diego State, on the other hand, has stayed a bottom feeder. I don't think they've even broken .500, which would be 7-7, yet. Oh and just to recap my notes :D Code:
Year 1: 5-9 2009 Year 6 yet to be played of course. |
Damn. We finally beat BYU and in fact go undefeated at 14-0. Ranked #8 in the country but we're the only Mountain West team that made it. First time that's happened, too. Normally there's 2, sometimes 3.
As a result of an apparently weak Mountain West in Year 6, we get screwed in the seeding and are the 7 seed in the East, ending up falling in the Sweet 16 to 6 seed Oral Roberts. Oh and we beat 15 seed Missouri in the second round, who upset I forget what 2 seed. :D Still, disappointing for what was arguably my best squad, even better than last year's Elite 8 team. |
Holy crap! Maria Nunley, an 8.0 overall freshman, just signed with me. To put this in perspective, Kelly Sousa, now a senior, is an 8.1.
I now have 3 All-Americans - Nunley, Sousa, and Iisakka. Sousa and Iisakka are both seniors, so if there's ever a time we're going to break through, this is it. Sheeka is a repeat All-Conference. We beat BYU on the first half and are an expected 7-0 at the halfway point, but BYU, Utah (who has been pretty good but never truly elite so far except maybe in one of the early years) and Wyoming are all 5-2. Another 14-0 season. We drop 6 sets the whole regular season. Wyoming 11-3, Utah 10-4, BYU 9-5. And somehow the Pokes don't get an invite. Nor do the Utes. Just us again. #10 in the country prior to seeding. The committee puts us at #17, a 5 seed in East. Much more fair than last year's screw job. We get 12 seed USC. Trivia note: My first ever NCAA appearance, in Year 4, we were a 10 seed and drew the Trojans. We upset them 3-0. No revenge for EF27's girls here, though. A 3-0 waxing @ 25-15, 25-7, 25-22 (We must have been lazy that last game). We get 13 seed Davidson in the second round. We beat them last year in the first round. Eerie echo NCAA tournament this season. Solid 3-0 victory here puts us in the Sweet 16 for the third straight year in a row. 1 seed Loyola Marymount awaits in the Sweet 16. Damn it! We lose 3 sets to 1. :( 25-22 was ours, and the rest went 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 their way. They made it to the national championship, where they lost to fellow 1 seed Liberty by a wider than expected margin. Crap, I hate to see Sousa and Iisakka graduate. |
It goes so quickly...
I got canned after 7 years at UNC. Year by year: 2015: 5-9 2014: 10-5 First Round 2013: 14-2 Conference Champions, Second Round 2012: 11-4 First Round 2011: 5-9 2010: 11-4 First Round 2009: 9-6 First Round Had a couple tough recruiting years in there. Only beat Clemson once in 7 years; in that 2013 season, our 13-1 record was rewarded with an 11 seed? Clemson was regularly a 1/2 seed. Got Norisha Fucci on the kills list with 430, had a couple All-Americans. |
Izulde got me looking for a college basketball variant with this post.
Found: BE THE COACH College Basketball Game Won 6 titles in 41 years at the helm of Missouri, although that was 14 regular season games per year, no preseason, no inter-divisional play in the Big 12 (which had North and South divisions listed; this sim is a bit older, it seems), etc. |
I haven't started Year 8 because I know it's a rebuilding season. I've got a contract through 2021 though, so 5 more guaranteed seasons, which would put me through 12 years overall minimum, I think.
I'll try the college basketball one, SA. |
Okay 2 minutes of that college basketball one and I was like blech. No stats at all for the players makes it difficult to stay interested. At least the girls' volleyball one had game, season, and career stats.

I was constantly taking a back seat to Sparty. They were a buzz saw my entire career. Plus, I think I lost the first game of the year EVERY year. I think the problem was that the girls were distracted by how sexy I am and weren't always focused on their volleyball. Plus, I probably shouldn't have shouted, "Summer Meyermann's a whore!" when she lost us... er, I mean, when we lost that Elite Eight game. That might have negatively impacted team unity. |
sup summer meyermann

Fun little game.
Managed to win the NCAA title with Albany with a stacked team (3 All-Americans, 4 All-Conference). |
Nice find Izulde. I jumped in thinking I'd just eff around but now I wish I had taken notes. I'm in 2014 as Indiana and just concluded a knock down, drag out with bitter rival Ohio State in the Western Regional Final that saw us lose to them for the 3rd time this year. Bastards.
Gonna start over somewhere else. |

Just realized the basketball game is from the same folks who did the volleyball sim. |
Fun little time-waster for sure. My SMU squad has had a history of tournament disappointment, but I'm hopeful this year's group can put together a serious run.

We came close but couldn't pull it off. After finishing 12-2 in the Big 12 South (both losses against nationally top-ranked Texas Tech), we entered the tourney as the West's 4 seed. We made it to the Final Four, but Tech knocked us out. lol |
The tournament seeding based on ratings gives some odd results. I coached an undefeated Stanford and ended up the #12 seed (46 overall). My team was pretty weak, so I can only guess that the rest of the Pac-10 sucked that year.
|
Son of an otters nut sack. I went 14-0 two years in a row, but only got 14 and 11 seeds in the tournament. The 2nd year my 4 best players graduated and the following year I went 2-12 and got FIRED. F U Hawaii.
|
I love it, you can cheat and go back and forth and force your recruits and wins... ;)
|
One cool thing, and I doubt it was completely random. A girl with the same last name as one of my players wanted to walk on during my 2nd season. She had a low error rating so I let her on the squad. I'll just pretend I had sex with both of them which led to my dismissal.
|
Nice find. Took over Wyoming and after a bad first season, made three straight NCAA appearances. Just lost in the Elite 8 with a senior-laden team.
|
UNJUST. My recruit pool for several years just turned to shit. We had back to back sweet 16 visits, but lost 5 of our 8 girls the following year, and could never recover.

Maybe I'm just an idiot - but when it asks to make your "final cuts" (after recruiting) - I thought it was asking me to cut 8 players - not keep 8 players *shrug*

Fun little game, definitely has that one more click feel to it.

Dinked around with Lamar during the tail end of office hours today. Won 1 game my first year, then hit a couple quality recruits and won the conference title in Year 2. Made it to the second round, but then we kept finishing 2nd or 3rd up until 2013 with one and done tournament exits each year.
My contract had one more year left on the 2014 senior, but my two top seniors had graduated and we were doing terribly in recruiting. Plus my office hours were over. Might see if my UNLV game can still keep going on my computer at home when I get there. |
It is surprisingly fun! Does anyone know of anything similar for college baseball?
|
Finally got fired in 2026 after missing the tournament 3 years in a row. Damn near had one player make it on the all time leader list for kills. Final Four was as close to a Championship that we got.

I would see about contacting the makers and see if it's a bug. |
Not a bug, just a rut I couldn't get out of. Finally had to give up after about 25 years, I landed the player of the year who got up to an 8.8 rating but the rest of my team was pretty much nothing. If I didn't close the damn browser I'd have been playing it all damn night.
|
I think the one issue I had was that I had to keep clicking so much. A season sim option would have been brilliant, especially since there isn't any micromanagement of the team.
|
I stumbled on the hockey sim on that site (Manly Cup Hockey) and it's fun enough, although it may be a bit easy. You are given a list of free agents and you can sign whoever you like, as long as it fits within your cap. Some scores start to look like Big 10 football games.
|
Here is the site for all the games from this particular group:
b1231.com - Free Browser-Based Simulation Games. Games Just Wanna Be Free! Women's Volleyball College Basketball College Football Baseball (career) Baseball (replay) Horse Racing Pro Football Hockey As much time as I've killed with Volleyball I will certainly be giving the others a try. Reminds me of when I was a kid with 32 football pencils and flipped a coin to determine the winner. I kept season records, champions, and cheered and booed various teams. Somehow I even had franchise dynasties. This seems a little more in depth than that, and just as much fun. |
damn, got obliterated 3 times in a row as a 16/15 seed in the tournament (vollayball version) as California. In the Pac10, Oregon is utterly unbeatable, they havenīt lost a conference game in 3 years. I won 3 sets against them in 6 matchups, which is more than anybody else :D
Now i have a senior-laden team, got 2 good recruits and a good walkon. Have my first 3 all conference players. There will be a tournament win on my books after this season i hope :) edit : aargh, after just 1 loss in the season i loose as a 6th seed to an 11 in the first round... Now 1 AA and 2 AC, letīs see how it goes. Is my last season. Now as a 7 seed again ! To the same team ! (Akron) 54-21 career record and now tourney win. Got another season, or else. Time Waster is an appropriate description in a good way ;) |
I didn't play much of the volleyball game, but it seems like the seeding is really messed up. I played as Maryland, and in my 3rd year I won the ACC championship (tied with Duke for the same record, guess I won the tiebreak). I was given a 14 seed and Duke got a 1.

Seeding appears to be done by team strength, so record doesn't really matter. |
