Creating tar.gz archives.

I'm looking for software to do this. Any good free ones out there?

Mainstay compression for *nix systems. But, it has been around from at least the mid 80's.

WinRAR is, well, a winrar

What software do you need beyond tar and gzip? This is from memory here, don't go cutting and pasting and saying I misled you. I haven't done this in some years now.

tar -cvf tarfile_filename "Files_to_backup"

gzip -9 tarfile_filename
