I don't know what part of LA you are in, but my part is up to 3.20/gal!

$2.40 in Boise the other day. A few years ago everybody freaked out when the national average went over $2, now it feels like a bargain.

So does anyone think the oil era is winding down right now, and things are just going to get a hell of lot worse until the alternatives become feasible and widespread? Or is this just temporary?

Ramzavail 04-20-2006 10:13 PM

Having the price be even $4.00 a gallon will not 'wind down' the oil era. It'll be a crunch for some people (ie, those owning SUVs especially), but people will deal, buy more hybrids or smaller Japanese cars.

I doubt the national average will get below $2.00 anytime soon.. unless someone invents an oil replicator ;).

Pumpy Tudors 04-20-2006 10:54 PM

I paid $2.959 per gallon earlier this evening. :(

JonInMiddleGA 04-20-2006 10:54 PM

Here in my little town 2.86/2.96/3.06 as of yesterday
20 miles away, it was about a dime cheaper than that, at least as of Monday.

WillyW3 04-20-2006 11:01 PM

1.095 a liter = 4.14 a gallon in Saskatchewan, they're calling for 1.50 - 2.00 a liter by summers end. Lovely..

bosshogg23 04-21-2006 06:30 AM

$2.89 in Philly. Had to go to 3 stations to find one with gas due to the shortages this week though.

CleBrownsfan 04-21-2006 06:34 AM

$2.899 in C-town. Just wait until Memorial weekend - I bet we'll get close to $4.00 a gallon by the end of the summer :(

Joe 04-21-2006 06:40 AM

I don't pay for gas

jeff061 04-21-2006 06:42 AM

2.95 a couple days ago. Wouldn't be surprised if it's gone up to 3 since then.

ice4277 04-21-2006 07:20 AM

www.fuelgaugereport.com is a good site if you want to check gas prices across the country

Not until it makes fiscal sense.

Everyone knows the answer is ethanol and it's resulting 20-50% hit on gas mileage :D

flere-imsaho 04-21-2006 07:29 AM

Suburban Cook County (Chicago-area), and mostly I'm seeing right around $3.00 on the dot for regular.

I filled up my 1993 Mazda (still 32 mpg!) next to a Hummer H2 filling up with premium the other day. He looked angry.

Butter 04-21-2006 07:35 AM

$2.89.

Rizon 04-21-2006 08:03 AM

$3.25 for 91 octane

If gas goes up to $4/gal (as I stated in the post: "Having the price be even $4.00 a gallon will not 'wind down' the oil era") it will.

Castlerock 04-21-2006 08:36 AM

People will bitch about $4/gal gasoline but they will not change their behavior much.

Draft Dodger 04-21-2006 08:38 AM

I don't have the foggiest. When my tank is empty, I go to a gas station and fill it up. the price per gallon is rather insignificant to me. it's not like I'm going to say "nope, too high this week. I'll pass".

Draft Dodger 04-21-2006 08:44 AM

dola (maybe):
I also couldn't tell you how much a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread is, even though my wife and I do the weekly shopping together. I couldn't even guess, really.

it's one of those questions celebrities get asked to see how out of touch with the real world they might be, but I'd get it wrong too.

That's because you're the biggest celebrity in Keene, N.H.

I filled up for $2.95 a gallon a few days ago. Saw it was up to $3.09 at one of the more expensive stations in Old Town Alexandria this morning.

jeff061 04-21-2006 09:06 AM

At $150+ a week in gas, I tend to notice ;)

ISiddiqui 04-21-2006 09:09 AM

How much do you drive?!

Or do you have a ton of cars?

IwasHere 04-21-2006 09:11 AM

I am still waiting for the Nuclear alternative. :)

Bit over a 100 miles a day with a Wrangler. Just for work.

Toddzilla 04-21-2006 09:20 AM

$2.99 for regular here in Northern Virginia this morning.

stevew 04-21-2006 09:29 AM

I wouldnt be suprised if we hit 4 dollars soon, at this rate. It would be nice if the price would settle down, however. I was paying around 2 bucks about 2 months ago, now it's 3. I hate that the price is starting to pinch my budget slightly in other areas. But it's also due to me not making as much money as most do, I'm sure. It starts to get shitty when you realize it now costs you maybe 4-5 bucks to drive to the store and back. I really need to trade into a smaller car, but it's not realistic at this point.

And this is another note, but I'm seeing that I've been getting even less mileage(2-4 less mpg) over the last several months than I'm used to getting. Probably could just be attributed to having an older car, although it sort of coincides with that massive price upswing around Katrina.

Make sure your tires are inflated at the right pressure. You'd be amazed at how much that can affect your mileage.

Yeah, I've checked stuff like that out, but it is a good tip. Got regularly changed oil. It's probably just coincidence.

As of yesterday morning, we are at $4 a gallon. And before you say it's canadian dollars, it is not. The current price at the pump is 1.224cdn per liter, with an exchange rate at 1.15 and 3.78 liters per gallon, this comes roughly to 4.02us per gallon...

Yeah but your pretty well used to getting screwed at the pumps, paying by the litre and all. It is a relatively new phenomenon for us here in the US.

Oh and 3.099 for regular

chinaski 04-21-2006 10:19 AM

2.99 here in Portland.
