I don't know that the quality tails off so much as the fact that something like 10-15 years passed between the publication of book 4 and book 5 - so when King writes in Wolves of the Calla, he's kind of in a different place mentally and artistically. Only way I know of to describe how I felt about 'em.
I still liked them.
