An overarching way of looking at it is this:
1. When you pay a player a bonus, that money is his, and his forever. Sign a player to a contract with a $10M bonus, and he gets that $10M immediately and you're responsible for it on the cap. If it's a 5-year deal and you keep him all five years, it's $2M per year. Cut him early and you're hit with the rest of it.
2. No *salary* in contracts in FOF is guaranteed. Cut a guy with 3 years left on his deal and none of the salary hurts you--just the bonus.
