It's just as silly as stewart and his followers insisting that his show is nothing more than comedy, because it happened to be on the same channel as a prank call show. (stewart has made that exact point)
I think its a spectrum rather than a black and white thing. The daily show is more news commentary than that awful am cnn show. Using humor to express the commentary doesn't put it in the same genre as crank yankers.
