The player is inellgibable for some reason - in most cases there will be an icon indicating why (or an excalamation mark to indicate a conflict).
PS - If you look on the players 'availability' tab it'll explain what is happening and why in text.

At the moment you have to mentally compare players - I'm considering implementing an in-game comparison system for a future version.
