Palácios hit for a .337 average while collecting 225 hits, 44 doubles, 8 triples, 27 home runs, 120 RBIs and scoring 104 times.

RL's Best Batsman Selected, It's García
Thursday, November 12th, 2116
What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2116 Bartolo Liriano Award in the Republic League. It had already been a very special season for Portland's Jaime García, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Jaime García gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .290 as he collected 189 hits, 28 doubles, 2 triples, 55 home runs and 143 RBIs.

Not sure why I spent money on FA's. My team has a terrible farm system. Other than my closer, my major league squad lacks any star power whatsoever. Here I go pushing for a another midpack finish. For whatever reason, I just can't bring myself to field a 25 Mil payroll stinker of a team and default to a top 3 pick.

Must Push For Mediocrity!

Tanking is for chumps! You're doing it right. That's the way I do it. Best team I can put on the field, every time.

Here here! Tanking is for wimps! Real managers field mediocrity until greatness appears (in FA or a deep draft).

Define "tanking"?

In 2116, I knew I wouldn't be good. I didn't go out and sign high ticket FA's, but filled my 25 man, set up lineups, and made an effort to get the best lineup I had out there.

I guess trading away 3 awesome players and not adding much in free agency can be considered tanking. That said, there is nothing wrong with it if you don't mind taking the easy route.

If it makes you feel better, this is an awful draft! No obvious big talent at #1

It is.

Again, nothing wrong with trying to grab top talent, hoping it develops, and then trying for world domination. I just prefer to put out a plus .500 team each season and hope I make the playoffs.

I missed the part about losing a top half first round pick if you sign a comp player. Oh well.

That seems off. I know the new system has a more restricted protected list (it's now just the top 10, I think, instead of top half--I am talking real baseball here), but your pick, the fifth one, would seem to still be protected under that.

I lost my pick (#9 overall), too. Although that doesn't surprise me, given I guess I signed a comp player. There are so few of them, I probably did offer and then sign one and didn't even notice he was a comp player.

The top 30% of the 1st round is protected. Chicago had pick #6 and the top 5 are protected in this case.

Top 30%. Okay.

The guy I would have received, Raul Calderon, is going to be a bust anyways. No worries on that front.

Truth be told, I needed a big presence in the lineup so I'm happy to have Wells. He's a terrible fielder but I'll stick him in the DH slot and let him take his hacks.

I may be totally misreading this, but I think the financials are still jacked up if the change was supposed to have taken place already.

Just noticed my media revenue is still at 120 MIL. Not sure what changes were made to the financial system but this is the one that needs to be changed. As long as we have it set this high we're going to have tons of extra cash in the coffers at the end of the year.

What was changed? Something about a hard amount for the owner budget. That won't do it. Sure our budget might be 72,000,000 (example), but we're still going to have millions upon millions of extra cash at the end of the year with media budgets like this.

Gate revenue is probably 3-4 Mil for each team. Mine was 3.2 Mil last year.

Media Revenue is probably 25-35 Mil for each team. Mine was 31 Mil last year.

Television Revenue should probably be around 40 Mil. This is a loose example because I'm not sure what the lower earning Gate/Media numbers are for some teams.

I'd suggest looking at the financial paramaters for FOOL and copying those Ticket/Attendance, Media, and Merchandise numbers over to FOOLX provided the FOOL numbers aren't distorted like FOOLX's are.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass. I do think this is something that needs to be fixed though. There is no sense in being able to cut whatever contract you like with no repercussions.

The budget overrides the media contracts. I could for instance set those to $0 and the figures would still be the same. I'll likely do that now that you mention it. In budget information section on your financials page it shows you the specifics of where you are in that area.

EDIT: Your owner is getting all the extra money over the budget that's set. He's really really rich now.

The budget our owner gives us is a moot point because we have a salary cap and we don't pay bonuses to draftees. A budget of 72.5 doesn't change the way I operate my team because I can't spend more than 65 Mil per year. Now if our budget was set too low that would affect us, but that's neither here nor there.

Our core problem is the amount of money in the coffers before the offseason begins. That's when the owner takes out his earnings and resets us to 15 Mil cash on hand.

At the end of this year my cash on hand will be above 50 Million again, probably closer to 90 Million. At this point I can cut a declining Luis Morales (15 Mil owed after this year), Jose Torres (7 yrs @ 4.3 Mil per) if his control goes one lower during the year, and I won't blink because I'll have too much money in the bank.

I know the intention was good with the budget thing, but the work you did was useless because that's not what the problem was. The media budget needs to be adjusted accordingly.

I think you should just remove that budget thing and copy the FOOL financial numbers for the three key areas, Ticket Prices/Attendance, Media, Merchandise, and let it ride. Again, assuming those numbers aren't tainted like these current FOOLX numbers are.

And, as always, thanks for your dedication and continued efforts.

I PM'd Hyde this, and through other online league experience, I think this is the solution.

I think it's what Montreal GM said in a way.

Take away ticket sales completely. Take away local media completely. Take away merch revenue completely. Give every team $75,000,000 in national media revenue. That's it.

I'm sure there are many things that would work but we simply need to adjust our media revenue to where it should be and forget about it. If a team sells out every game and makes the playoffs on a regular basis, therefore bringing in more merchandise sales and gate receipts than a cellar dweller, I think that GM should be rewarded with a little more money in the coffers to drop a bad contract (smaller ones) or two if he/she wishes.

By the way, FOOL's financials look like they're basically set up this way except a little wiggle room on top with merchandising and gate. Each team is getting a hard 65,000,000 for national revenue and then about 7 to 8 million extra in gate and merchandising. We should probably just adopt those settings.

I don't know when the trade deadline is in this place these days...but if anyone is inclined to deal for some of the talent Manchester has while we inhabit permatank mode, I'm open to making deals. Just hit me up or something.

Most notably,

SP Takeru Miyazaki
1B Devin Burry
2B Jack Anderson
SS Salvador Ortiz
CF Francisco Ferreira
CF Rafael Torres
RF Kiyo Yamashita
LF Juan Lopez
CF Sixto Vazquez

This made the guy who runs the league with no guaranteed contracts chuckle, obviously.

If the prevailing sense here is that people shouldn't be able to do it and that it's somehow circumventing the rules, then people shouldn't do it. No need to worry about what your budget is, how much cash you have left over or anything. If cutting players before their contract ends and not paying for the entire value of the deal is problematic, then people just shouldn't do it. And if someone does it, hyde could decide the appropriate penalty as necessary.

I read all of the posts and everyone was making a bit too complicated.

If the salary cap here is still $65m, all hyde has to do is:

1. Set the Average National Media Contract to $65m
1b. National Media Contact fixed? Set "Yes, same contract for every team."
2. Set the Average Local Media Contract to $0
3. Set the Average Merchandise Revenue to $0
4. Set the Cash Maximum to whatever you all think it needs to be set to. $10M, 20M, $1. Whatever.

Once you've done this, go to Functions in the bottom righthand corner. Select (near the top) Assign Fictional Financials to Teams. That will give everyone the same media contract and reset the budgets based on your new financial reality.

On the right side of the same menu under the Team Expenses & Salary Settings heading, make sure the Player Salary Cap is set to whatever the salary cap is.

So long as you do that, there should be no problems.

Just trying to help!
