1868 (Season 31) Season Thread
Going to attempt some kind of season preview situation. Not traditional team capsules, but something. Stay tuned.

The Conditional Playoff Rule could be invoked this year, if the AL East doesn't hold to form and the competitive AL West can get a team like Winnemucca to compete at par with the eastern half of the league. We haven't seen a 10-team playoffs since the first year of the rule 3 seasons ago, but on paper this is a year we could see it.

Just did the cap check and Denver ($94,032,750) is over the cap by $7,396,250. ($101,429,000) Rather than taking draft picks, the new cap penalty will be a 2.5 for every $1 you're over the cap.
Here's the financials spreadsheet for this season. Welcome to Google Docs Luckily, there are lots of teams with ample cash to help them out of their plight. Last edited by Young Drachma : 01-27-2013 at 12:42 PM. |

Also forgot that I actually traded for Washington's Palmer Welch before the season started and forgot to process that deal before I simmed. Will need to do that tonight.

I like breaking the season into thirds. I was able to run with a 6 man pitching staff the first third and jettison the weakest link after 60 games.

As much as I love STREP, I might have to kill it. The two-pitch starters problem is endemic to Markus's development model which he won't fix. It only affects feeders leagues though, so...if we kill it off and have the draft generated through regular means, it'll solve that problem.

I think my plan for this year is to add additional players to the pool + feeders and see if that helps our situation at all.

As I predicted, a weak AL East is teetering us close to a CPR year. Rio Grande is resurgent, as I didn't expect to see them anywhere near this race but they're quiet and do what they do. Vegas is of course lurking, Memphis isn't too far out and so...it'll be interesting to see how the 3rd and final set unfolds on Thursday night!

Washington's owner will be happy to know that no matter what happens, they've already turned a profit on this year and Memphis is close to do it too without even the last two months of the year in the books. Not bad. Oh and Cleveland Laborers too.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...qa0FBN0E#gid=0 I've updated the wins column. The gate revenue won't matter until the end and it only matters for playoff pool purposes. (So I'll update it all at the end, it's too tedious to update on the fly.) Last edited by Young Drachma : 01-29-2013 at 11:33 PM. |

File is up, nerds. Tomorrow we have off, so use that time to make blockbuster trades. Meanwhile, we'll sim the 3rd set to the end of the regular season on Thursday night.

I am pleased with our season so far but a few things are very troubling. Dante Fennell is on pace to give up 55 homer runs, Al Gannon is giving up 2.8 home runs per 9 innings despite his 70 GB ratio and Osamu "Giant Whale" Tamai has lost almost 300 points on his OPS from last season.

I'm hoping that AJ Hoogland can finish with an OBP over .500. He's currently at .491, which would obliterate the old SLOP record of .475. He's been a pretty good player for a 5th round pick.

DO NOT download the latest file if you've already uploaded your export. If you hadn't downloaded it at all, that's fine. I put a new file out to process the trade wolvie and I made earlier. Any other deals I'll process through this afternoon and then we'll shut that valve off.

Obviously it's just Wednesday, there is NO sim tonight and we'll sim the 3rd set of the season (to the end of the regular season) tomorrow night.

Lastly...BillyPilgrim responded to one of my calls for new owners, but rather than take over Portland, sttfrk says he's going to hang out with us longer. Which we're happy about. Meanwhile, we're going to have BillyPilgrim take over San Diego. Ramz will be back full-time eventually, but in the meantime, the San Diego Fathers will be like SLOP's version of the Washington Nationals where there are three extant teams in MLB who have donned that moniker.
We'll eventually have the same here once he comes back. Anyway, Billy will get control of the Fathers tonight (and he's been granted dispensation to move them) and so...feel free to nag him about possible trades since they've got lots of talent. |

San Diego will become the Joplin Miners effectively immediately. (Or you know, effectively when I can login to the game and change it.)

That Joplin/Columbus deal is processed and a new file is up, with Billy controlling Joplin as well.
We'll sim the final set of the '68 season tomorrow night.

Would it be posible to get the rules and schedule page updated to reflect the current schedule? I am kind of slow with how we are doing the season and off-season.

Hmm, doesn't look like you imported before that file, or I did something wrong.

I need to attach disclaimers to these interim post-trade files for people who aren't involved in the trades NOT to download them, because it will mess up with your export since I don't import teams before those files, because if I did, the teams with traded players would end up having their new players released from their teams before they get them if they'd exported before the trade was processed. So I just make it easier on myself by not importing on those trade update files. Did you need to make other changes to your club? Your latest export is safe, it's just if you want to make other changes, I'd need to upload a file with your imported changes and upload it. |

I'm good, I didn't make to many changes, so I just re-did them. I'll refrain from downloading the trade files in the future.

Updated the schedule on page one and linked the financial cap sheets.
We'll sim to the end of the season tonight. I'll process trades in one fell swoop later this afternoon, should there be any new ones. Last edited by Young Drachma : 01-31-2013 at 09:11 AM. |

With two months to go in the season, I updated the finances to right this second. Things should flesh at the end (aka, everyone won't be in the red) but for right now, you can see where your team is and how a playoff run might be benefit

So far, seems the late trade deadline has done exactly what we hoped it'd do. 7 trades just in this stage.
