2005 FOOL CLASSIC

GAME 9

Colorado 2, Valdosta 1

Augusto Garcia hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th to give the Rancheros the win. Harvey Gilliam got the win, going 8 innings, striking out 5 and walking 3. Logan Walls went 8 innings as well, striking out 8 and walking 2, but just didn't get the offense he needed to pull the win out.

It's the 6th FOOL Classic title in Rancheros history and their 22nd playoff appearance overall. It was also the 22nd playoff appearance in FOOL history for Valdosta across their history.

Thanks Alan! Good job on your run, I thought you would get me there in the end. I'm glad I forgot to show up until just now, I don't think I could have sat through all the suspense tonight.

Ann Arbor has decided on its new name. Erudite has chosen the name the Kansas City Beagles.

I'm going to make an off-season thread now, so I can tend to clerical matters.

Nope. Never happened before. I think there was a time in the early 60s when there was a guy who probably should've gotten it and it he got passed over, because the likelihood of it happened seems relatively remote.

But Jack Jones pretty much owned the RL this year and I didn't even notice it until you said it.

Edit: I was wrong. Apparently Fernando Olivera did it in 2000. But we weren't here for that...so this is way cooler and more memorable.

Tons to comment about here.

CL Tanaka: Our Tanaka winner was AVAILABLE on Opening Day. He was just sitting out there. If I didn't need a catcher, I would have done what I could to bring him in. Great show by Batman, BTW.

RL Tanaka: Jones the new RL star? He had a great season, although his ratings don't suggest he'll keep hitting those dingers (unless it's the Colorado air).

CL POY: Miller and Yu. Yu and Miller. They were both amazing this year. Miller got POY. Yu beat Miller head to head in the CL playoffs. Twice. Yu wins.

CL ROY: More ATL vs VAL. Hanna and Knowles not only are rookies in the same year, they're both new 2B. I remember Hanna being one of those free agent kids from the AI teams I wanted to sign, and being disappointed he went to the Peanuts. I'm sure there are plenty of guys I have gotten that Alan beats his head against the keyboard about, too. BTW, Knowles was a free agent like Hanna at one point.

CL ROY: See Tasan? What were you worried about.

Thus continues the FOOL's tradition of off-the-wall names. Good addition to the lexicon.

I still think Brownstones is the best, and so completely fitting for the city.

Oliveira was also available on Opening Day.

Well, typical of Boston. I won't know until I see the file if the Al Cleveland experiment was a true failure: losing 3-0 sounds like my bats choked. We'll retool and see if we can't get our lineup improved a bit this offseason.

Well, LF Howard Booth, 3B Tomas Santos, and CL Kuemon Kichida, all anchors of my team, had lousy playoffs. An 18 ERA and 2 losses for Kichida, and hitting under .200 for 2 of my bigger bats, equals no Classic for Boston.
