FOFC Favorite Rock Act - Round 1 Group M

No upsets in round L, with only one real dogfight between Wings and Moody Blues. This round features a real tough matchup as The Pixies take on NIN and a big clash of styles in the Sex Pistols / Tina Turner matchup. Will a group full of Kings be enough to take down "The King?" Naw.

Thin Lizzy and Megadeth may have been my toughest choice yet. Thin Lizzy is iconic and offers so much more than just 'The Boys are Back in Town'. Another scenario of what would I rather have with me on a deserted island if I could only pick one. Megadeth edged it based on that criteria.

Thumbs up

I love ELO! I was lucky enough to find an abandoned stack of their 45s as a kid. Loved hearing "Mr. Blue Sky" at the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Elvis Presley isn't a 22 seed in any tournament of anything ever.

I think the only other Thin Lizzy song I know (besides Boys) is Jailbreak (I assume that's the name, never looked it up), which I consider meh. Can you elaborate?

Whiskey In The Jar (which the band was pissed ever got released) is probably the most obvious omission there. Cowboy Song maybe next.

The real genius of Phil Lynott (whose aura, in total honesty, probably benefits from the mystique of dying too soon to some degree ... the social media era might not have been as kind to him as history has been) is better found by considering the entire body of work & the talent that passed through the band over its existence. Truly a case where the whole exceeds the sum of the parts.

Incidentally, remaining members of the later lineup still perform in a style reminiscent of classic Thin Lizzy. Fans definitely should enjoy what is done now under the name Black Star Riders.

Because I was curious (and bored), the list of artists who are seeded ahead of the King:

Code:
Seed Band 1 The Beatles 2 Led Zeppelin 3 Pink Floyd 4 The Rolling Stones 5 Queen 6 7 AC/DC 8 Jimi Hendrix 9 The Doors 10 Nirvana 11 12 Metallica 13 Aerosmith 14 15 Black Sabbath 16 Guns n' Roses 17 David Bowie 18 U2 19 20 Van Halen 21 Eric Clapton 22 Elvis Presley

Going to guess The Who are #6, and that encompasses the only groups that I would come close to thinking are even inside his neighborhood, let alone better than him.

Really hated that I had to vote against Disturbed so soon. But Steve Miller Band wins that everyday.

Actually, I'd personally slot The Doors in that top group and knock Pink Floyd down to 8 after putting Elvis and Morrison & co. up near the top.

Until recently I was ignorant to the fact that Phil Lynott had a weird experimental, electronic period after Thin Lizzy.

Thin Lizzy has the worst version of Whiskey in the Jar anywhere so they have that going for them.

What Jon said, as well as Emerald, Dancing in the Moonlight, Still in Love with you and Dedication among others. Thin Lizzy is an acquired taste for sure, but the more you listen the more you appreciate how unique their sound is. Especially for their time. Phil Lynott did the original version of nineteen as well, that Bad 4 Good had minor hit with in the early 90's.

ELO and Hall and Oates may be the best battle yet, 4 lead changes and staying within 1-4 votes the entire time, at least when I have checked in.
