Tien-kai Zhào Winner in April
Saturday, May 1st, 2145: April's Hitter of the Month has been selected by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Noblesville right fielder, Tien-kai Zhào.

He starred by hitting .326 with a .416 on-base percentage, totaled 31 hits in 95 at-bats, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 13 runs.


Moore Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy
Saturday, May 1st, 2145: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Cory Moore. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Ann Arbor's right fielder pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .333 in April collecting 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Continental League Premier Pitcher is Haney
Saturday, May 1st, 2145: Dane Haney took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 24-year-old Brownstones starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 18 batters in 31.1 innings and compiled a 2.01 ERA.

Saturday, May 1st, 2145: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Alonso Pérez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 28-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 35 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.67 ERA in 37.2 innings of work.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2145: Arthur Losoya is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .293 average with 24 hits, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2145: Leonardo Castro was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 23 games Castro batted .307 for Chico, slapping 31 hits in 101 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 15 times.

Napa Valley's Morita Chosen CL Batter of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Tadasu Morita is no exception. The Napa Valley first baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In May Morita hit .306 with 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

To date, Morita has collected 51 hits for a .260 average. He has posted 6 home runs, scored 28 runs and driven in 17 runs.


May's #1 Batter Announced
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Adrián Rangel can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 33-year-old third baseman for Hammersmith was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In May he batted .327 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This year Rangel is hitting .287 with 58 hits, 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and has scored 30 runs.

Pate Wins CL Top Pitcher Award
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Whether Butch Pate stays in Napa Valley beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In May the 32-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-0 record and and an ERA of 3.00. In 36 innings he struck out 21, surrendered 31 hits, 8 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

So far this season Pate has a 7-0 record with a 3.00 ERA.


Román Garners RL #1 Pitcher Award
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Félix Román's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-2 in May, the 30-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 40.1 innings, logged an ERA of 2.68 and allowed opponents to hit .230 against him.

This year Román has compiled a 6-2 record with a 2.44 ERA in 11 starts.

Halifax Rookie Hits His Way to CL Honor
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Héctor Jofre earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Halifax first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Jofre hit .295 with 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Thus far this season Jofre is hitting .271 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 54 hits in 199 at-bats and has played in 51 games.


May's Best Newcomer Named by RL
Tuesday, June 1st, 2145: Youngster Leonardo Castro emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chico deserved the honor, batting .273 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Castro enjoy the limelight.

Castro on the season is batting .289 with 6 home runs. His totals include 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has played in 51 games.

CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Dyke
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: In June, Finley Dyke let his bat do the talking for him. The Brooklyn shortstop smacked the ball at a .394 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 1 home run, drove in 13 and scored 24 runs.

This season Dyke is batting .321 with 104 hits, 2 home runs, 24 RBIs, 37 walks, .401 OBP and has scored 55 runs. He has played in 79 games.


Blakeney Takes RL's Best Bat Award
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: In June, Larry Blakeney was the toughest out in the Republic League and that is the prime reason he was voted the Batter of the Month.

The Ann Arbor first baseman rapped out 39 hits in 97 at-bats for a .402 batting average, hit 9 home runs, drove in 24 runs and scored 20 times.

In 2145 Blakeney has hit at a .322 clip with 97 hits, 16 home runs, 53 RBIs and has scored 61 times.

Noblesville's Cabanes Chosen June's Best in CL
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: The Continental League announced today that Prímio Cabanes has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Noblesville starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 5-0 record.

In June Cabanes chalked up a 2.48 ERA in 40 innings with 23 strikeouts and 5 walks.

In season stats Cabanes shows a 9-4 record in 15 games, 100.2 innings, 62 strikeouts and a 3.31 ERA.


Medina Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: It was a monstrous June for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Ánibal Medina of the Hartford Harpooners. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Medina recorded 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 34.1 innings, he yielded 36 hits, mowed down 25 on strikes, gave up 6 walks and put up a solid ERA of 2.88 in a stellar month on the mound.

This season Medina has gone 6-5 with an ERA of 4.73, posting 55 strikeouts in 99 innings.

Newcomer Honored by Continental League
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: Arthur Losoya's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Noblesville catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .316 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Losoya also scored 7 times and drove in 8 runs.

Losoya is hitting .280 in 2145 with 26 RBIs and 4 home runs.


June's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself
Thursday, July 1st, 2145: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Andrés Pineda just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old right fielder for Colorado hit .265 with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 21 RBI. He also logged 15 walks and compiled a .364 on-base percentage.

Currently Pineda has 5 home runs and a .241 batting average.

Chong Snares CL Top Batter Award in July
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: Gwang-soo Chong battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Chong told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Chong hit .347 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

During the current season Chong is batting at a .331 clip with 7 home runs and 45 RBIs. He has played in 102 games and scored 75 times.


Toronto's Cappelletti RL #1 Batter in July
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Napoleon Cappelletti put together a solid offensive month for Toronto and was crowned July's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .416 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and 16 runs scored.



For the season Cappelletti has produced 134 hits in 376 at-bats for a .356 average with 18 home runs and gotten on base at a .405 clip.

Continental League #1 Hurler is Peña
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: Tomás Peña has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Cyclones bullpen ace collected 4 saves and 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .255 average and posting a 0.66 ERA and a 2-0 record.

For the season Peña has earned 19 saves, worked 61 innings, fanned 55 hitters and recorded a 1.62 ERA. He has held opposing teams to a .216 batting average.


Betancourt Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: Iván Betancourt will be bringing July's Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Hammersmith. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Betancourt started 4 games, going 4-0 with 24 strikeouts in 31.2 innings as he compiled his 2.27 ERA.

To date this season, Betancourt has a record of 8 wins and 7 losses and a 4.38 ERA. He has appeared in 20 games and struck out 86 in 129.1 innings.

Manuel Selected CL's #1 Newcomer
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: Noblesville's Carlos Manuel collected 26 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for July.

He batted .292 with 7 home runs, 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Posting a .237 batting average to date, Manuel has 15 home runs and 31 RBIs.


Brown Gets July's Rookie Trophy
Sunday, August 1st, 2145: A rookie, Denny Brown is turning heads around the Republic League, especially since he just netted July's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Ann Arbor second baseman batted .362 last month and collected 34 hits, 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

To date, Brown has collected 111 hits for a .304 average. He has posted 13 home runs, scored 50 runs and driven in 45 runs.

Muñóz Crowned Top CL Hitter in August
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: August's outstanding offensive player in the Continental League has been picked and the honor goes to the Apex right fielder Roberto Muñóz.

He won the award by batting .404, hitting 4 home runs, knocking in 14 runs and scoring 17 times.

So far this year Muñóz has 13 home runs and a .279 batting average.


RL Announces Best Batter Award
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: Carlos Sánchez earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League by reeling off a .400 average, going 40 for 100 with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Hammersmith clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

Presently Sánchez is batting .313 and has collected 4 home runs, 52 RBIs, .418 OBP and scored 97 runs.

Continental League Announces Top Starter
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: Apex Assassins starter Derek Henry has collected the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Henry. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In August the 34-year-old compiled a 5-0 record in 6 starts with a 1.44 ERA. He threw 50 innings, fanning 27 while walking 7.

This season Henry has a 13-7 record with a 3.25 ERA.


Rebels Starter Wins RL Pitching Award
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: August's top-rated pitcher was Guillermo Guzmán of Chico Rebels. He demoralized Republic League hitters in posting a 4-0 record and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 5 starts, Guzmán limited opposing batters to a .186 average. He rang up 18 strikeouts in 32.1 innings of work, issued 16 walks, and crafted a 2.51 ERA.

In 25 starts this season Guzmán has gathered 12 wins while suffering 8 losses. He has pitched 150.1 innings, allowed 120 hits, struck out 92 and has a 3.29 ERA.

CL Names Newcomer of the Month
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: One of the Continental League's brightest newcomers, Héctor Jofre was at the head of his class in August as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 25-year-old Halifax first baseman batted .333 with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs.

This season Jofre is swinging the bat at a .267 rate with 132 hits in 495 at-bats. To date he has hit 19 home runs, scored 55 runs and driven in 63.


Colorado Rookie Reels in Reward in August
Wednesday, September 1st, 2145: With August's Republic League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Andrés Pineda has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 23-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .371 batting average, 36 hits, 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

In his season totals, Pineda has 7 home runs, .260 BA, .333 OBP, 61 RBIs and 66 runs scored. He has played in 126 games.

Friday, October 1st, 2145: In September, Héctor Jofre let his bat do the talking for him. The Halifax first baseman smacked the ball at a .280 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 7 home runs, drove in 23 and scored 17 runs.

This year Jofre is batting .269 with 26 home runs. He has scored 72 runs and driven in 86.


Toronto's Spence Bags RL Batting Award
Friday, October 1st, 2145: In September, Greg Spence was the toughest out in the Republic League and that is the prime reason he was voted the Batter of the Month.

The Toronto first baseman rapped out 29 hits in 91 at-bats for a .319 batting average, hit 7 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 17 times.

Spence is batting .298 this season in 152 games with 30 home runs, 95 RBIs and 105 runs scored. He has 170 hits in 570 at-bats.

CL Announces Best Pitcher for September
Friday, October 1st, 2145: Porter Battle nailed down September's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Halifax to get a deal done before the 30-year-old becomes a free agent.

Battle seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-1 record, reeled off 19 strikeouts, worked 35.2 innings and held batters to a .211 average for the month as he posted a 1.77 ERA.

This season Battle has worked 193.2 innings with 126 strikeouts en route to a 12-6 record and a 2.79 ERA.

RL's Top Starter is López
Friday, October 1st, 2145: As Tony López hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for September, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Hartford once his contract is up at the end of the season.

López put pressure on the Harpooners to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 2.70 over 33.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 19 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Hartford and to every other team in the league.

This year in 31 starts, López has recorded 19 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 210.1 innings, allowed 205 hits, struck out 158 and has a 3.25 ERA.

Friday, October 1st, 2145: Héctor Jofre had a standout September and today received the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 25-year-old Halifax first baseman played in 26 games and hit .280 with 8 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Jofre also scored 17 times and drove in 23 runs.

Jofre is hitting .269 for the season with 26 home runs, 86 RBIs and 72 runs scored. He has 160 hits in 595 at-bats and played in 151 games.

Rookie Honored by Republic League
Friday, October 1st, 2145: Leonardo Castro moved to the head of the class today as the 23-year-old center fielder for Chico bagged the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy for September.

Over that stretch Castro batted .328 with 38 hits in 116 at-bats, collecting 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
