CL Announces Best Batter Award
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: In the last year of his deal with Halifax, César López has created some waves by winning April's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .408 batting average with 1 home run, 13 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 12 walks and a .487 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.


Super Month Nets Pimentel #1 Batter Prize in RL
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: Rafael Pimentel has a lot going for him. The Hartford first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Republic League has just picked him as its top hitter for April.

In 23 games last month, this outstanding rookie batted .353 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Kichida Is April's Best CL Hurler
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: Naruhiko Kichida hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Halifax starter earned a 4-1 mark in 5 starts. He threw 32.2 innings, struck out 21 and compiled a solid 1.93 ERA.


Pate Tabbed as April's Starter of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Butch Pate still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 33-year-old starter for Los Angeles was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 25 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.29 ERA in 42 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: José Álvarez was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 23 games Álvarez batted .298 for Apex, slapping 25 hits in 84 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 11 times.


Marquee Month for Rivera, Top RL Rookie
Sunday, May 1st, 2146: In April, José Rivera piled up some solid numbers and walked off with the Rookie of the Month award in the Republic League.

Last month the 26-year-old Chico center fielder played in 22 games and hit .394 with 7 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Rivera also scored 19 times and drove in 13 runs.

May's Premier Batter Announced
Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: Carlos Manuel really smoked the ball in May on his way to Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

The Noblesville center fielder hit .337 with 6 home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored to round out his great month.

Manuel is presently hitting at a .330 pace with 8 home runs and 35 RBIs. He has played in 50 games and scored 30 times.


Piña Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: Hammersmith's Luis Piña wowed sportswriters in May with an award-winning performance. For his standout play he was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month.

He rang up a .420 batting average with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also had 17 walks and a .504 on-base percentage.

Piña is presently batting .365 with 6 home runs, 37 runs scored and 37 RBIs. His OBP is .428.

Cuevas Picks up CL Monthly Pitching Honor
Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: Vincente Cuevas nailed down May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Napa Valley to get a deal done before the 33-year-old becomes a free agent.

Cuevas seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-2 record, reeled off 18 strikeouts, worked 44.2 innings and held batters to a .254 average for the month as he posted a 2.82 ERA.

Cuevas has started 13 times this year, pitched 84.1 innings, fanned 29 batters and walked 10. His current record is 7 wins and 5 losses with a 3.31 ERA.


Balcome Picked as May's Pitcher of the Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: Doug Balcome of the Los Angeles Bruins is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In May he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

Balcome checked opposing batters on 24 base hits and a .178 batting average. He rang up 23 strikeouts in 37.2 innings of work, surrendered 11 walks and fashioned a 1.43 ERA.

This season to date Balcome has a record of 7 wins and 3 losses with a 3.44 ERA, has appeared in 10 games and struck out 51 in 68 innings.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: Aidan Batterham's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Napa Valley left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .330 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. Batterham also scored 16 times and drove in 16 runs.

This season Batterham is batting .286 with 19 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 8 home runs.


Chico Center Fielder Best Rookie
Wednesday, June 1st, 2146: José Rivera wreaked havoc on Republic League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In May he batted .290 for the Rebels, lashing 31 hits and 3 home runs. The Chico center fielder also drove in 13 runs and scored 13 times to round out a most impressive month.

For the season Rivera is batting .338 with 68 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 32 times and batted in 26.

Friday, July 1st, 2146: In June, Tien-kai Zhào beat the baseball like a drum the entire month and netted the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

In 28 games the Noblesville center fielder hit .373 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

This season in 78 games, Zhào has hit at a .279 clip with 81 hits, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and 38 runs scored.


Snyder Takes Home RL Top Batter Award
Friday, July 1st, 2146: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Roy Snyder can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 32-year-old center fielder for Hartford was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .317 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This season Snyder is swinging the bat at a .273 rate with 82 hits in 300 at-bats. To date he has hit 18 home runs, scored 51 runs and driven in 47.

June's Top Hurler is Hamada
Friday, July 1st, 2146: The Continental League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Tomiji Hamada of Noblesville Millers, who impressed the voters with a glittering 3-0 record in June.

The Noblesville star hurler made 5 starts, allowed 20 hits in 35.1 innings, struck out 24 and had a 1.27 ERA.

To date this year in 15 starts, Hamada has crafted a 4-6 mark with a 3.19 ERA.


Burnett Named Top RL Hurler
Friday, July 1st, 2146: Jon Burnett has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Bruins bullpen ace collected 1 save and 13 strikeouts in 16 innings, holding the opposition to a .109 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 4-0 record.

For the year, Burnett has collected 6 saves in 37 relief appearances. He has also rung up 33 strikeouts and 3 walks in 42 innings while registering a 1.71 ERA and a 4-1 won-lost mark.

Napa Valley Newcomer June's Best Rookie
Friday, July 1st, 2146: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Aidan Batterham just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old left fielder for Napa Valley hit .310 with 27 hits, 4 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .406 on-base percentage.

For the season Batterham has hit .294 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has played in 78 games and scored 38 times.

Friday, July 1st, 2146: José Rivera put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

Tokyo's Edwards Top CL Batter in July
Monday, August 1st, 2146: Bob Edwards battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Edwards told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 19 games, Edwards hit .400 with 4 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

This year Edwards has collected a .317 batting average to date with 97 hits in 306 at-bats, 49 RBIs, 12 home runs and scored 46 times. He has played in 89 games.


Spence Crowned Batter of the Month in July
Monday, August 1st, 2146: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Greg Spence helped his contract negotiations by nabbing July's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Toronto first baseman put together a .402 batting average with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Spence continues at this brisk pace.

So far this season, Spence has recorded a .330 batting average with 117 hits, 18 home runs, 66 RBIs, 59 runs scored and a .445 OBP.

CL #1 Pitcher in July is Tokyo's Sonora
Monday, August 1st, 2146: Veteran José Sonora put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Tokyo Cyclones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Sonora racked up a 3-2 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.64 ERA over 44 innings and striking out 25.

This year Sonora has compiled a 11-8 record with a 2.24 ERA.


Gibson RL Winner, Top Hurler in July
Monday, August 1st, 2146: It's official!
Ben Gibson of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month. In July he dominated the league with 3 wins and no losses in 4 starts. In 29.2 innings of work Gibson chalked up 18 strikeouts, 6 walks, a 1.52 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .259 batting average.

On the season Gibson has a 10-5 record with a 3.13 ERA.

Apex Catcher July's Top Rookie
Monday, August 1st, 2146: Brian Moore earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Apex catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Moore hit .330 with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Moore has hit at a .278 clip with 44 RBIs, 12 home runs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 97 games.


Big Month for RL Rookie
Monday, August 1st, 2146: Youngster Rafael Pimentel emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .297 with 3 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Pimentel enjoy the limelight.

This year Pimentel has 22 home runs and a .275 batting average.

Coleman Gets CL Batter of the Month Trophy
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Dave Coleman put together a solid offensive month for Apex and was crowned August's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .394 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored.



Currently Coleman has 15 home runs and a .290 batting average.


Piña Captures RL Batter of Month Award
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: In August, Luis Piña beat the baseball like a drum the entire month and netted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

In 27 games the Hammersmith second baseman hit .362 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Thus far this season Piña has hit .329 with 21 home runs, 87 RBIs and scored 81 times.

Sonora Wins CL Top Pitcher Award
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: José Sonora's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in August, the 33-year-old Tokyo hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 27 in 45.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.17 and allowed opponents to hit .188 against him.

This year Sonora has a 16-9 mark in 32 starts with a 2.22 ERA. He has given up 191 hits in 218.2 innings, struck out 132 and issued 58 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .235 batting average against him.


Hernández Is RL's Best Pitcher in August
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: The hottest hurler in the Republic League last month was Luis Hernández of the Hartford Harpooners. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the RL Pitcher of the Month.

In August, Hernández starred with an impressive 4-1 record. In 6 starts he gave up 30 base hits and struck out 25 in 40.2 innings with a 2.88 ERA.

For the year Hernández has compiled a 10-10 record with a 3.86 ERA.

Rookie Left Fielder Honored by CL
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: José Álvarez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In August the Apex hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .300 average with 27 hits, 5 home runs and 21 RBIs.

For the year Álvarez is batting .263 with 108 hits and 20 home runs. He has scored 58 times and driven in 65.


Red-Hot Rookie Rewarded in August
Thursday, September 1st, 2146: Ann Arbor's Juan Marés created quite a buzz around town today when he was presented August's Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie left fielder took the award by connecting for 25 hits in 78 at-bats for a .321 batting average. During the month he collected 4 home runs, drove in 19 runs and scored 6 times.

Posting a .216 batting average to date, Marés has 11 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Castillo Grabs CL Best Batter Award for September
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: Jesús Castillo of the Baltimore Gothams certainly made a resounding impression on the Continental League pitching corps in September and today reaped the reward as the league's best batter for the period.

The center fielder put up some good offensive figures as he hit .373 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

For the year Castillo is batting .287 with 24 home runs, 98 RBIs and 81 runs scored.


RL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Rangel
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: On the heels of a very productive September, Adrián Rangel received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested third baseman hit .326 for the Hammersmith Hooligans and racked up 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This season Rangel has hit 30 home runs and posted a .285 batting average.

CL Relief Ace Jones Named Best Hurler
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: "The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Frank Jones put together a very solid month to take home the Continental League's top pitching honor in September.

The 24-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In no relief appearances he raked in no saves and 20 strikeouts in 40.2 innings as he put together his 5-0 record and 1.55 ERA.

For the year Jones has collected no saves in no relief appearances. He has also notched 123 strikeouts and 51 walks in 207.1 innings while registering a 3.86 ERA and a 16-11 won-lost record.


Ann Arbor Starter Wins September's Pitcher Award
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: The Republic League announced today that Ben Gibson has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Ann Arbor starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 5-1 record.

In September Gibson chalked up a 2.64 ERA in 44.1 innings with 26 strikeouts and 7 walks.

On the season Gibson has compiled a 16-9 mark with a 3.23 ERA in 31 starts. In pitching 206 innings he has 121 strikeouts and 41 walks while limiting the opposition to a .281 batting average.

Batterham Named CL's Best Rookie
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: Aidan Batterham sure isn't playing like the rookie he is. The 23-year-old left fielder for Napa Valley is rapping the ball like a seasoned veteran in the Continental League and today he took home the Rookie of the Month Award for his effort.

In September, Batterham compiled a .341 batting average. He drove in 16 runs, hit 5 home runs and scored 12 times.

This year Batterham is batting .284 with 157 hits, 21 home runs, 71 RBIs, 53 walks, .370 OBP and has scored 71 runs.


September's Premier RL Rookie Named
Saturday, October 1st, 2146: Dennis Wilson of the Los Angeles Bruins nabbed the Rookie of the Month honors for September in the Republic League.

Posting a .397 average last month, he collected 27 hits, 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

On the year Wilson is hitting .280 with 120 hits, 24 home runs, 70 RBIs, .387 OBP and has scored 73 runs.
