Fernández Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy
Monday, May 1st, 2147: April's Batter of the Month has been announced by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Baltimore second baseman, Jorge Fernández.

He starred by hitting .356 with a .430 on-base percentage, totaled 37 hits in 104 at-bats, 1 home run, 18 RBIs and scored 19 runs.


RL's Best Batter Announced
Monday, May 1st, 2147: Tatsuzo Suzuki of the Los Angeles Bruins was named the Republic League's best batter for his fine performance in April.

He compiled a .385 batting average and .462 on-base percentage during the month. In 27 games he piled up 37 hits, 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Victorie Is April's Top Starter
Monday, May 1st, 2147: Veteran Teun Victorie put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Halifax Winter Wolves, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Victorie racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.21 ERA over 36.2 innings and striking out 47.



Reliever Caro Top RL Pitcher in April
Monday, May 1st, 2147: Rubén Caro has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rebels bullpen ace collected 12 saves and 15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .159 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 0-0 record.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Monday, May 1st, 2147: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Billy Chowen just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 23-year-old right fielder for Halifax hit .356 with 26 hits, 7 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 4 walks and compiled a .390 on-base percentage.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, May 1st, 2147: Chico's Dave Carlton collected 33 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for April.

He batted .375 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Brooklyn's Dyke Top CL Batter in May
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: Finley Dyke had quite a month with the bat in May and the Brooklyn shortstop was crowned Continental League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .373 with 41 hits, 1 home run, 12 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He also drew 16 walks to post a .461 on-base percentage.

Dyke on the season is hitting .327 with 2 home runs. His stats include 15 RBIs and 32 runs scored.


Hartford's Hernández Snaps up May Batting Award
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Ernesto Hernández put together a solid offensive month for Hartford and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .415 with 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored.



Thus far this year Hernández is batting .373 with 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

CL's Top Pitcher in May Is Sonora
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, José Sonora still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 34-year-old starter for Tokyo was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 32 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.16 ERA in 50 innings of work.

This season Sonora has compiled a 7-4 record with a 2.86 ERA.


Cortés May's Best Hurler in RL
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: Júlio Cortés took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 25-year-old Hooligans starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 31 batters in 42 innings and compiled a 3.00 ERA.

So far this season Cortés has a record of 7-1 with 52 strikeouts and 16 walks in 74.2 innings and a 3.38 ERA.

May's Best Rookie Named by CL
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: 25-year-old José Díaz is deceptively poised for such a young man. In 6 starts he bagged 5 wins in May and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The Brooklyn hurler logged a 5-0 record, 25 strikeouts in 41 innings, held opponents to a .189 average and compiled an ERA of 2.41.

To date this season, Díaz has registered 11 starts, 6-3 won-lost mark, 3.54 ERA, 73.2 IP, 41 strikeouts and 12 walks. Opposing teams have hit .224 against him.


Marquee Month for Nagata, Top RL Rookie
Thursday, June 1st, 2147: Takanobu Nagata was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old right fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 29 games Nagata batted .355 for Colorado, slapping 44 hits in 124 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 11 runs and scored 15 times.

For the year Nagata has hit .317 with 1 home run, 24 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Saturday, July 1st, 2147: José Sierra's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in June, the 30-year-old Tokyo hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 18 in 39.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.27 and allowed opponents to hit .270 against him.

In 19 starts this season Sierra has crafted a 7-6 record with a 4.18 ERA.


Caro Picks up RL Monthly Pitching Honor
Saturday, July 1st, 2147: Chico's Rubén Caro solidified his position as a fine reliever, claiming the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for June.

Saturday, July 1st, 2147: Youngster Billy Chowen emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Halifax deserved the honor, batting .344 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Chowen enjoy the limelight.

Chowen is hitting at a .314 mark this season. His stats show 12 home runs, 28 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has played 67 games for the Winter Wolves.


RL Names Nagata Best Rookie
Saturday, July 1st, 2147: Takanobu Nagata is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Colorado hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .301 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 5 RBIs.

Noblesville Left Fielder CL's Best Batter in July
Tuesday, August 1st, 2147: Carlos Manuel really put on a show in July, earning the Batter of the Month Award in the Continental League!

The Noblesville left fielder batted .302 with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs, 20 runs scored, along with 18 walks to compile a .419 on-base percentage.

This season Manuel is hitting at a .286 pace with 13 home runs, 56 RBIs and has scored 65 times.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2147: Los Angeles designated hitter Tatsuzo Suzuki took home the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy for July.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2147: Last month was a very good one for Teun Victorie of Halifax. So good that he has been picked as the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Victorie throttled league hitters the entire month, completing July with an impressive 4-0 mark and a 1.18 ERA in 5 starts with 33 strikeouts in 38 innings.

This year Victorie has gone 10-4 with an ERA of 2.87 and has 129 strikeouts in 131.2 innings.


Rodríguez Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors
Tuesday, August 1st, 2147: When Gustavo Rodríguez takes the mound, a Hartford victory is usually the result. That was the the case in July.

That's why he was voted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Rodríguez throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 4-0 mark and 3.38 ERA in 5 starts. The Harpooners star hurler also rung up 30 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.

His record this year is 9-6 in 20 starts and Rodríguez has a 4.25 ERA.

Aidan Batterham Winner in Continental League
Friday, September 1st, 2147: In August, Aidan Batterham swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Continental League Batter of the Month.

The Napa Valley left fielder batted .382 with 7 home runs, 17 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

So far this season, Batterham has recorded a .277 batting average with 130 hits, 20 home runs, 51 RBIs, 65 runs scored and a .364 OBP.


Cappelletti Crowned Top RL Hitter in August
Friday, September 1st, 2147: Napoleon Cappelletti battered Republic League pitchers all August and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Cappelletti told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Cappelletti hit .312 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

Currently Cappelletti is batting .271 with 122 hits and 31 home runs. He has knocked in 79 runs and scored 75 times.

Brownstones Hurler Named CL's Best Starter
Friday, September 1st, 2147: Dave Tidwell is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy winner. The Brooklyn starter sparkled on the diamond time and again last month and finished August with an outstanding 5-1 record.

In 6 starts he tossed 41.1 innings, posted 34 strikeouts, and sported a 1.74 ERA.

This season Tidwell has compiled a 11-11 mark with a 3.44 ERA.


RL Honors August's #1 Pitcher
Friday, September 1st, 2147: In August when the Los Angeles manager wrote the name "Balcome" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Doug Balcome took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 6-0 mark and 2.49 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Bruins star pitched 47 innings, fanned 27 and held opposing teams to a .264 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Balcome was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

To this point in the season Balcome has 15 wins and 7 losses and a 4.40 ERA.

Sunday, October 1st, 2147: Tokyo's Loren Nolan had a productive September and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 25-year-old left fielder stood out at the plate with a .381 batting average, 1 home run, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Nolan is hitting .341 in 2147 with 68 RBIs and 10 home runs.


Tatsuzo Suzuki is September's #1 Hitter in RL
Sunday, October 1st, 2147: September's outstanding offensive player in the Republic League has been picked and the honor goes to the Los Angeles designated hitter Tatsuzo Suzuki.

He won the award by batting .400, hitting 4 home runs, knocking in 24 runs and scoring 19 times.

In the current season, Suzuki has put up a .361 batting average with 203 hits, 27 home runs, 119 RBI and scored 115 runs.

Cyclones Hurler Named CL's #1 Starter
Sunday, October 1st, 2147: The Continental League hitters didn't have a chance in September when the Tokyo Cyclones manager wrote "Sonora" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, José Sonora held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 2.85 ERA in 6 starts. The talented Cyclones star pitched 41 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing teams to a .240 average.

For his superb mound work Sonora was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

To this point in the season, Sonora shows a 19-10 record, 38 starts, 248.2 innings, 139 strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA.


Aguilera Is RL's Best Pitcher in September
Sunday, October 1st, 2147: Colorado's reliever Javier Aguilera really put the chill on opposing teams in September and today was acclaimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Aguilera made 13 relief appearances, picking up 9 saves and compiling a 1-0 mark. He struck out 16 while walking 1 and put up a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings.

Thus far this year Aguilera has picked up 32 saves. He has also compiled a 6-5 won-lost mark with a 4.28 ERA and in 67.1 innings fanned 72.

Late surge for Ann Arbor there. Was at one point fifth worst record in the league only to come back and make the playoffs in the final two months of the season. Or was it that everybody else collapsed?

Its because of the activity in the league right now. I've only had a couple teams miss exports in the last couple weeks.

I wasn't sure my pitching would hold up, but it did. And I saw a reminder of why my rotation is still sorta in the dumps, when former Hooligan Dave Tidwell won the CL POM award this year.

Tidwell was set to become one the next great SPs for the Hooligans when I inexplicably forgot to go to the Possible Free Agents screen in the arbitration phase. He was set for minor league FA, and I lost him (and the subsequent bidding war with Brooklyn).

At least he is seeing some success.
