Álvarez Named CL Batter of the Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: José Álvarez of the Apex Assassins stood out in April with a .316 batting average against Continental League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old left fielder totaled 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He also chipped in 10 walks for a .398 on-base percentage.


Hammersmith's Spencer Top RL Batter in April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: When Bobby Spencer stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Hammersmith second baseman posted a .394 batting average with 7 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Spencer also worked pitchers for 10 walks to post a .439 on-base percentage.

CL Top Pitcher for April Picked
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: Héctor Guerrero's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 29-year-old Apex hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 34 in 37 innings, logged an ERA of 0.97 and allowed opponents to hit .184 against him.


Pérez Gets April's Top Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: Last month was a very successful month for Alonso Pérez of Colorado. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the Republic League.

Pérez shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out April with an impressive 3-0 mark and 2.52 ERA in 5 starts with 31 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.

Rookie Third Baseman Honored by CL
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Arnold Casey just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 23-year-old third baseman for Tokyo hit .306 with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .343 on-base percentage.


RL Names Newcomer of the Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2148: One of the Republic League's brightest newcomers, Bobby Spencer was at the head of his class in April as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

May's Best Batter Announced
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: José Álvarez of the Apex Assassins recorded a .413 batting average in May. His hitting spree racked up the Continental League Batter of the Month award for his trophy case.

The Apex left fielder battered opposing pitchers all month, accumulating 12 home runs, 21 RBIs and scoring 22 runs.

So far this year, Álvarez is batting .368 with 20 home runs and 42 RBIs.


RL's Top Hitter Announced
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: Today Jesús Guzmán was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for June. During the month the 26-year-old Colorado first baseman compiled a .321 batting average.

Most importantly for the Rancheros though, he also posted 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Guzmán is hitting .301 in 2148 with 40 RBIs and 11 home runs.

Gothams Hurler Named CL's #1 Starter
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: Tony López took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-2 for Baltimore last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.85 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 43.2 innings and striking out 32.

This year López has compiled a 6-5 record with a 2.84 ERA in 11 starts.


Pérez Wins Best RL Pitcher
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: The Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the Republic League trophy went to Colorado hurler, Alonso Pérez.

During the month, Pérez was impressive with a 1.51 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 41.2 innings he struck out 38 and gave up 29 hits and 11 walks.

This year Pérez has registered 6 wins and no losses in 11 starts with a 1.98 ERA while registering 69 strikeouts and 16 walks in 77.1 innings.

May's Outstanding CL Rookie Announced
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: Whenever Winter Wolves left fielder José Cordero stepped into the batter's box last month, the 24-year-old meant business. With his .365 average he virtually ran away with the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

He collected 23 hits in May with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

In 41 games Cordero is hitting .336 this season with 41 hits, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs, 16 walks, .425 OBP and has scored 22 runs.


May's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded
Saturday, June 1st, 2148: Mitchell Challen will be on his way to great things, if he keeps up May's production. The 27-year-old first-year player for Hammersmith put up excellent numbers last month to claim the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

Last month the third baseman posted up a solid .322 average, 5 home runs, 16 RBIs, 28 hits, 12 walks, .404 OBP and scored 8 runs.

In the current season, Challen has put up a .328 batting average with 60 hits, 9 home runs, 44 runs batted in and scored 26 runs.

Manuel Picks Up Best CL Batter Honors for June
Monday, July 1st, 2148: The most recent Continental League Batter of the Month trophy was awarded to center fielder Carlos Manuel of the Noblesville Millers.

In June he stood head and shoulders above all other batters by hitting .337 with 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Manuel is presently hitting at a .309 pace with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs. He has played in 78 games and scored 42 times.


Ann Arbor's Brown Collects June Batting Honor
Monday, July 1st, 2148: Denny Brown of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month for June.

The 26-year-old second baseman slapped out a .391 batting average, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .495 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year Brown is hitting .320 with 17 home runs, 56 RBIs and 63 runs scored.

Cyclones Hurler Named CL's Best Starter
Monday, July 1st, 2148: It was a very good month for José Sonora in June. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Tokyo Cyclones outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Sonora ran up a 4-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 43 innings he fanned 28 and recorded a 1.26 ERA.

This year in 16 starts, Sonora has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 4 losses. He has pitched 118.2 innings, allowed 107 hits, struck out 74 and has a 3.03 ERA.


Román Takes RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Monday, July 1st, 2148: The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Republic League trophy went to Toronto hurler Félix Román for his strong performance in June.

During the month, Román was impressive with a 1.29 ERA and 3 wins and 1 loss. In 35 innings he struck out 29 and gave up 28 hits and 4 walks.

In 15 starts this season, Román has recorded 6 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 94 innings, allowed 105 hits, struck out 79 and has a 3.64 ERA.

Casey Voted CL's #1 Rookie
Monday, July 1st, 2148: A rookie, Arnold Casey is turning heads around the Continental League, especially since he just netted June's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Tokyo third baseman batted .345 last month and collected 30 hits, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

So far this year Casey is hitting .291 with 10 home runs.


Premier Rookie Named by RL
Monday, July 1st, 2148: Royce Jones put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In June he chalked up 31 hits, 7 home runs and drove in 23 runs. The Los Angeles catcher compiled a .403 average and a .452 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 5 walks.

This season Jones is batting .354 with 79 hits, 16 home runs, 45 RBIs, 22 walks, .419 OBP and has scored 32 runs. He has played in 65 games.

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

Napa Valley's Batterham Bags CL Top Batter for July
Thursday, August 1st, 2148: Hot-hitting left fielder Aidan Batterham of the Napa Valley Winemakers really pounded opposing pitchers in July and collected Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

He hit .340 with 10 home runs and 22 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

This season in 102 games, Batterham has hit at a .276 clip with 108 hits, 20 home runs, 48 RBIs and 63 runs scored.


Michael Jones Winner in Republic League
Thursday, August 1st, 2148: In the month of July Michael Jones thumped the ball with authority, earning Republic League Batter of the Month honors in the process.

Toronto's first baseman hit .333 with 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

So far this season Jones is batting .280 with 22 home runs, 74 RBIs and 70 runs scored. He has 110 hits in 393 at-bats, 52 walks and a .360 OBP. Jones has played in 102 games.

July's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Quiñones
Thursday, August 1st, 2148: July's best hurler was Manuel Quiñones of Noblesville. He overwhelmed CL hitters all month long and captured the Pitcher of the Month award as he collected a 4-1 record in 5 starts.

The 24-year-old Quiñones added 24 strikeouts in 34.1 innings and 8 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.62 ERA. Other clubs hit .228 against him.

To date this year, Quiñones shows a 11-4 record, 21 starts, 143 innings, 105 strikeouts and a 3.52 ERA.


July's #1 Hurler Announced: Salazar
Thursday, August 1st, 2148: It was a monstrous July for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner, José Salazar of the Toronto Marlboros. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

CL Best Hitter Award to Apex's Dave Coleman
Sunday, September 1st, 2148: Dave Coleman had quite a month with the bat in August and the Apex first baseman was crowned Continental League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .316 with 31 hits, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He also drew 12 walks to post a .419 on-base percentage.

Coleman is currently hitting at a .307 pace with 19 home runs and 77 RBIs.


August's Premier Batter Announced

Sunday, September 1st, 2148: It's a rarity when someone out of the pen gets recognition as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month, but that's exactly what happened today as Apex reliever, Anastasio Randín, earned August's title.

He tossed 13 innings, posting a 1-0 mark, 1.38 ERA, sitting down 13 on strikes and also nailing down 9 saves in his 13 relief appearances.

Randín's record so far this season is 3-and-4 with 30 saves and a 2.85 ERA. He has given up 51 hits in 53.2 innings with 43 strikeouts.


Rancheros Pérez August's Top Hurler
Sunday, September 1st, 2148: Last month was a very good one for Alonso Pérez of Colorado. So good that he has been picked as the Pitcher of the Month in the Republic League.

Pérez throttled league hitters the entire month, completing August with an impressive 4-1 mark and a 2.23 ERA in 6 starts with 40 strikeouts in 44.1 innings.

Sunday, September 1st, 2148: Yub Muthuri of the Brooklyn Brownstones has been honored as the top Rookie in the Continental League.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2148: The Continental League Batter of the Month has been picked for September and the honor goes to the Baltimore Gothams Mel Dunn.

He compiled a .317 batting average with 33 hits and 7 home runs, along with 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2148: On the heels of a very productive September, Pung-cho Kim received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

Halifax Starter Named CL's Premier Pitcher
Tuesday, October 1st, 2148: The Halifax Winter Wolves felt very secure when they sent Naruhiko Kichida out to the hill last month. The 27-year-old starter went after Continental League hitters with a vengeance and earned September's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA as he struck out 23 in 39.2 innings over 5 starts.

So far this season Kichida has a 16-6 record with a 3.00 ERA.


Rosário Garners RL #1 Pitcher Award
Tuesday, October 1st, 2148: In September, when the name of Manny Rosário appeared on the Ann Arbor lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 5 times and chalked up 4 wins and no losses. With those stats it was a also a virtual lock that he would be named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Rosário shackled opposing batters on 44 base hits and a .301 batting average. He rang up 12 strikeouts in 38.1 innings of work, surrendered 9 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.35 ERA.

On his stats sheet this season Rosário shows a 10-12 record, 30 starts, 189.1 innings, 65 strikeouts and a 5.42 ERA.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2148: During the month Arnold Casey socked and slapped the baseball all over Continental League ballparks to pull in a majority of the votes for the Rookie of the Month award.

In September the third baseman for Tokyo collected 34 hits, 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 11 runs scored. He batted .354 with a .406 OBP.

Casey currently has a .292 batting average with 166 hits, 15 homers, 64 RBIs, 74 runs scored and a .347 OBP.

It doesn't until the draft actually appears. I believe its because no inter-league is in these leagues. Its either that or German engineering. Better yet a little bit of both of those.

Playoff Hopefuls

Brooklyn Brownstones - Last made it to the Classic eight years ago but hasn't won in 40 years. They are returning to the playoffs after 8 years and looking for their 8th win. Their first division title in 25 years so there is celebrating in the streets in Brookstone. Their pitching is great so they hope it can take them there.

Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines - They won it all 3 years ago and now they're back. Looking for their 6th win with a group of MONSTER hitters and their best pitching in 20 years. They are on to something here.

Apex Assassins - They haven't been to the Classic since 2141, where they won. They made it to the playoffs a couple times since but kind of fizzled out. Back for their 59th playoffs. WOw. But only looking for their 15th win. Best pitching in 18 years to compensate for their soso bats.

Hammersmith Hooligans - Back again to attempt a repeat at the Classic. Going for their 18th win and 72nd playoff appearance. The opposite of Apex, their great batters compensate for soso pitching.


Matchups:

Brookstone and Hammersmith last met in 2140 where Hammersmith won. but Hammersmith lost to Apex in 2130. 2131 saw Apex lose to Ann Arbor though. Techically Ann Arbor has never met THIS Brookstone team in the Classic, but in 2000, the then Ann Arbor WOlverines (who changed their name to Winged Lingerines and remained in the city) battled the original Brooklyn Brownstones who then changed their name and moved....and are now the Apex Assassins.
