Noblesville's Hathaway Snags April Batting Title
Friday, May 1st, 2150: One of the more consistent batters in April, Noblesville first baseman Mike Hathaway grabbed Continental League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .353 with 36 hits in 102 at-bats.

He racked up 13 home runs and 30 RBIs, scored 21 runs.


Carlton Snares RL Top Batter Award in April
Friday, May 1st, 2150: Chico second baseman Dave Carlton certainly turned heads in April with some impressive numbers. He batted .387 for the month and was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 7 home runs, collected 24 RBIs, scored 25 times and put up a .451 on-base percentage.

Millers Starter Named April's Premier Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2150: Maurice LaRose hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Noblesville starter earned a 6-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 43 innings, struck out 40 and compiled a solid 1.05 ERA.


Republic League Announces April's Top Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2150: Martín Lozano's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 32-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 18 in 38.1 innings, logged an ERA of 2.58 and allowed opponents to hit .247 against him.

González Selected CL's #1 Rookie
Friday, May 1st, 2150: Yes, Félix González is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 21-year-old Brooklyn starter was awarded the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in April.

He dominated the rookie class, registering 3 wins and no losses in 5 starts with 22 strikeouts in 33 innings and a 2.45 ERA.

Not bad for a first-year man.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2150: Claudio Salgado is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Colorado hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .289 average with 26 hits, 1 home run and 6 RBIs.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Manuel
Monday, June 1st, 2150: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 26-year-old Carlos Manuel put together a solid offensive month for Noblesville and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .352 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



This year Manuel has hit at a .351 clip with 74 hits, 19 home runs, 48 RBIs and 43 runs scored.


Carrillo Cops RL Batter of the Month Honors
Monday, June 1st, 2150: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and José Carrillo is no exception. The Chico left fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In May Carrillo hit .426 with 2 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Carrillo is hitting .357 this year with 4 home runs and 39 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .425, 22 walks and scored 30 times.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in May
Monday, June 1st, 2150: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Gustavo Rodríguez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 33-year-old starter for Napa Valley was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 27 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.00 ERA in 36 innings of work.

In 12 starts this season Rodríguez has chalked up a 5-2 record and a 1.97 ERA.


Román May's Best Hurler in RL
Monday, June 1st, 2150: Veteran Félix Román put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Toronto Marlboros, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Román racked up a 4-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.93 ERA over 42 innings and striking out 31.

In 12 starts this season Román has rung up a 8-2 record and a 1.90 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2150: León Gómez earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Gómez hit .262 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Gómez on the season is hitting .207 with 9 home runs. His stats include 32 RBIs and 26 runs scored.


Mateo Wins Newcomer of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2150: Rafael Mateo was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Mateo batted .270 for Los Angeles, slapping 30 hits in 111 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 23 times.

In 2150 Mateo has hit at a .247 clip with 53 hits, 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and has scored 33 times.

Álvarez Takes Best Bat Trophy in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: José Álvarez, the Apex left fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .353 batting average with 36 hits, 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 17 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Continental League Batter of the Month honors for June.

This season Álvarez is batting .314 with 90 hits, 14 home runs, 52 RBIs, 26 walks, .391 OBP and has scored 45 runs. He has played in 76 games.


RL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Carrillo
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: On the heels of a very productive June, José Carrillo received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .424 for the Chico Rebels and racked up 3 home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Carrillo is batting .379 this season in 76 games with 7 home runs, 59 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 113 hits in 298 at-bats.

Kichida Snags CL Top Hurler Trophy
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: June's #1 hurler was Naruhiko Kichida of Halifax. He gunned down Continental League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Winter Wolves star piled up 4 wins and 1 loss to take the honor.

The 29-year-old Kichida added 25 strikeouts in 42.2 innings and 12 walks to his season record and compiled a 2.32 ERA. Other clubs hit .260 against him.

On the season Kichida has compiled a 8-4 mark with a 2.76 ERA in 16 starts. In pitching 111 innings he has 74 strikeouts and 18 walks while limiting the opposition to a .264 batting average.


RL Pick for Top Pitcher in June is Gibson
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: Ben Gibson is the latest Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Ann Arbor starter shined on the hill time and again last month and finished June with a sparkling 4-0 record.

In 5 starts he tossed 35 innings, posted 18 strikeouts, and put up a 2.31 ERA.

On the season Gibson has 10 wins and 3 losses and a 3.54 ERA.

CL Picks Rookie of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: Youngster León Gómez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Tokyo deserved the honor, batting .323 with 8 home runs and 27 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Gómez enjoy the limelight.

This year Gómez is batting .243 with 74 hits, 17 home runs, 59 RBIs, 8 walks, .301 OBP and has scored 43 runs.


RL Chooses Rookie of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2150: Rafael Mateo's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Los Angeles center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .319 with 11 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Mateo also scored 19 times and drove in 16 runs.

To date Mateo has chalked up a .272 average with 5 home runs, driven in 33 runs and scored 52 times.

CL's #1 Batter Chosen
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: Snap, crackle and pop!
In July, Carlos Manuel snapped up the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 29 hits and popping 6 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .293 with 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The Noblesville center fielder also picked up 12 walks to compile a .398 on-base percentage.

On the season, Manuel is batting .329 with 30 home runs and 77 RBIs. He has played in 102 games.


Torrez Wins RL's Best Bat Trophy
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: The premier hitter in the Republic League in July was Ann Arbor catcher Gerardo Torrez. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Torrez was selected after batting .425, hitting 10 home runs, scoring 21 runs and driving in 23.

Thus far this season Torrez has hit .340 with 23 home runs, 81 RBIs and scored 68 times.

Apex Starter Named CL's Top Pitcher
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: The Apex Assassins owe Patrick McLannon a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in July, McLannon tore up the opposition with a fine 4-0 mark on his way to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed McLannon, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was McLannon who did the banging in July as he tossed up 30 strikeouts in 36 innings, holding opponents to a .149 average and posting a 0.75 ERA.

On the year McLannon has worked 124.1 innings with 105 strikeouts en route to a 8-6 record and 3.04 ERA.


July's Best RL Hurler is Johnson
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: Sean Johnson is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for July.

He made 14 relief appearances for Chico last month, throwing 17.2 innings and collecting 7 saves, a 2-1 record, 19 strikeouts and a 0.51 ERA.

His season stats show Johnson has 21 saves in 44 relief appearances with a 4-3 mark and 2.26 ERA.

Bill McCromley Captures Rookie of Month
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Bill McCromley just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Over the past month the 22-year-old right fielder for Baltimore hit .333 with 24 hits, 1 home run and 8 runs batted in. He also logged 17 walks and compiled a .467 on-base percentage.

For the year McCromley is hitting .272 with 10 home runs. His stats include 36 RBI and 55 runs scored.


Los Angeles's Mateo RL Rookie of Month
Saturday, August 1st, 2150: It might be just his first year in the league, but Rafael Mateo is playing like he's been here before. The Los Angeles center fielder rang up some lofty numbers in the last 30 days and snagged the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

In July he hit .333 with 4 home runs and 30 hits. He walked 6 times and compiled a .384 on-base percentage, scored 18 times and drove in 11.

So far this season Mateo is batting .285 with 9 home runs.

Pacheco Takes Home CL Top Batter Award
Tuesday, September 1st, 2150: The vote is in and Mauro Pacheco, the 27-year-old left fielder for Baltimore, is the winner. Today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

In August, Pacheco wowed voters with a .434 average while posting up 5 home runs, 20 RBIs, 19 runs scored and a .487 on-base percentage.

So far this year Pacheco is hitting .349 with 14 home runs.


Guillén Grabs RL Best Batter Award for August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2150: The Republic League Batter of the Month has been chosen for August and the trophy was presented to Fernando Guillén of the Hammersmith Hooligans.

He stood out this month with a .378 batting average, 42 hits and 12 home runs, along with 34 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Batting .303 to date, Guillén has 38 home runs and 120 RBIs.

Continental League Picks Best Starter in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2150: Ric Thomas took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in August. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Baltimore last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.63 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 37.2 innings and striking out 20.

Thomas has made 26 starts this season, posting 10 wins and 3 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .263 against him and he has 91 strikeouts in 165.2 innings with a 4.18 ERA.


Reliever Aguilera Top RL Pitcher in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2150: Javier Aguilera has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rancheros bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 14 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .156 average and posting a 0.66 ERA and a 2-0 record.

Aguilera has made 52 games so far this year with 34 saves. In 58 innings he has dished out 55 strikeouts and walked 16 with a 3-4 mark and a 1.40 ERA.

Cordero Snags CL Batting Honor in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2150: Today José Cordero was voted Continental League Batter of the Month for October. During the month the 26-year-old Halifax left fielder compiled a .400 batting average.

Most importantly for the Winter Wolves though, he also posted 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Currently Cordero is batting .313 with 32 home runs and 112 RBIs.


RL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2150: Katsuhiko Konishi of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines had a field day with Republic League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During September he compiled a .354 batting average, drove in 27 runs and scored 17 times. He also managed to pick up 11 walks to post a .449 on-base percentage.

So far this season Konishi is hitting .288 with 28 home runs, 102 RBIs and 99 runs scored. He has 164 hits in 569 at-bats and a .370 OBP.

Gómez Named Newcomer of the Month
Thursday, October 1st, 2150: When all the votes were counted for the Rookie of the Month in September, León Gómez of the Tokyo Cyclones was on top of the pile. The standout center fielder rifled hits here, there, and everywhere in Continental League ballparks the entire month to win the honor.

The 22-year-old center fielder took the trophy by putting up a .308 average and .407 on-base percentage, 28 hits, 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

In 151 games Gómez is hitting .246 this season with 141 hits, 29 home runs, 99 RBIs, 26 walks, .321 OBP and has scored 87 runs.
