I hope not.

Of course, as a Broncos fan, I'm just going on pure spite at this point.

As a Niner fan, I will have to give an emphatic YES to that question.

The Niners are atrocious on the road. Hell we couldn't even beat Carolina.

I am not looking forward to the Packer game this weekend. We are going to get beaten like we owe the Pats money...

The Chargers have lost to the Seahawks and the Rams this year. They have an almost super human ability to play down to the talent of their opponents. Of course, that's more indicative of a head coach that probably couldn't motivate a cat to chase a mouse.

I've held onto him all year hoping he'd make an impact in fantasy playoffs. I'm debating whether to start him tonight and I'm holding out until I hear Malcom Floyd's status.

I think he could explode if Floyd is out but I'm not sure what he'll do otherwise...

C'mon, Turner is the best coach to never win anything.

Meh...Willis played half his record setting rookie season with a broken hand in a cast. I'm putting my money on Willis playing, and Spikes seeing spot duty with Bowman/LaBoy splitting time.

And yes, we are TERRIBLE on the road, absolutely pitiful. That being said, we only lost to Carolina after Alex Smith got hurt and the defense shat all over themselves. Plus, we probably should have beaten Atlanta on the road, but once again, the D can't hold a lead in the 4th quarter to save their lives.

I'm pretty well over Rick Reilly, but this section of his column on the woeful Broncos was pretty good.

Across the league, coaches celebrate the gifts given them by Little Josh. They are especially happy in Cleveland, where they think Hillis could be an All-Pro. Meanwhile, the man McEgo got for him -- Quinn -- has even less chance to play than Tebow. Even Xanders hasn't heard of him.

"God has a plan for me," Quinn is fond of saying.

Yeah, He had one for Job, too.

So I didn't watch this game, fearing something like this may happen. Perusing the 49er blog Niners Nation, it appears that Justin Smith was ejected for shoving a referee. The guys on the site seem to think that the ref overreacted...

I haven't seen the play, but how can you possibly defend a guy for shoving a ref?

I read about it in a different forum and it seemed they thought the ref overreacted. I can understand the penalty but kicking him out of the game for what seemed to be an honest mistake seemed like poor judgement.

Certain refs just feel like they need to make headlines. They are the ones that basically suck. Im all for the no harm no foul type referreeing.

I think though, accident or not, physical contact with a ref has to be enforced harshly, if only for their safety.

Disagree.

IMO there can be no gray area when it comes to physical contact with officials in any sport.

Um, it's not a judgment call. If he's penalized for improper contact with a ref, it's an automatic disqualification. There is no "well I'm sure it was a mstake" judgment call to make.

I saw it when it happened and reacted quicker than the ref did. Smith was staring at the Chargers player he had just dis-engaged from and was jawing at, and the ref came in from his left side to separate them, and Smith probably thought the guy was a teammate or another Charger. He reached with his right hand, grabbed him from behind the shoulder, and pushed him out of the way. I don't even think he looked at him to realize who he was. Dumb move.

Great game by the Chargers. I was worried they would play down to the talent level of the 49ers and they didn't. Nice to see Kaeding is the best no pressure kicker in the NFL. Too bad he has a kick off leg about as strong as Lt. Dan, after the war. He's an off field liability, but, please give VJ a long term contract.

As for the dude getting kicked out of the game...he shoved a ref, purposeful or not, that's an instant DQ. When the whistle blows, get your ass on your side of the ball and play, instead of getting into a dick measuring contest and maybe next time you won't accidentally shove a ref.

The penalty for the hit on the Chargers receiver on the side line was a weak ass call.

I like the skins free agent strategy. Sign to a big contract, play about a year, get benched and repeatedly humiliated.

i'll make 2 predictions
1. shanahan stays in WAS and they take locker/mallet with their number 1
2. mcnabb has a renaissance in ARI

I dunno, they should have probably hired Norv Turner instead of Mike Shanahan. At least the Chargers would be a postseason threat and the Redskins would be irrelevant....oh.....right.

The game was filled with atrocious calls, and unfortunately most seemed to go against the 49ers. Justin Smith was being shoved pretty harshy by a ref that is widely known to have a "tough guy" image. Smith basically pushed the refs arm off of him (he had been pushed a solid five yards by now) and then the ref looked at him wide-eyed like he was going to sock him in the mouth. Total classless move by the ref, and it's a shame that a nice guy like JS had to be the bear the brunt of it. Another shitty call was the "facemask" penalty that negated the Ginn return for TD. If that was a facemask, then you may as well call that penalty on every player, every play. Ridiculous.

Still, I think the Bolts would have won. Everyone expected Sing to get out-coached, and it played out like I expected.

As a fan watching how many horrible penalties & bad ref calls go against the Chargers over the last few years (Ed Hochuli in Denver for example), last night was nothing.

I actually did not see where the 49er committed a face mask penalty on that kick off return. However, I did see what looked like that a Charger was doing the face mask. Then again, the 9ers did get away with a block in the back and holding on the return. The penalty that blew me away was the one called against the 49ers DB on the sideline. Horrible call.

Yup, penalties aside, when your game plan excludes your best receiver (Vernon Davis), not sure how you can expect your team to win. You know your team is destined to have a bad year when you can't even take advantage of a penalty on a field goal that gives you first down and you go away with zero points because you got stuffed on the goal line.

I say, lose out the rest of the season, get some good draft picks and don't be scared to sign some good free agents in the off season (mainly a QB) and get a coaching staff that doesn't look like they just showed up to a funeral.

Regardless though, this will NEVER make up for Super Bowl 29!!!

You've got to be kidding me! Refs are allowed to, and are supposed to, separate players from one another. You see them getting physically in the middle of fights and pulling guys out of piles. That is permitted. That is part of their job, actually, as the on-field rules enforcers. The ref did nothing to Smith that was out of the ordinary in these situations, but Smith pushed the ref - and that's the end of the analysis right there. Enough with the violins for sucha nice guy. He may be nice, but for a split-second last night, he sure was dumb.

I agree the ref's reaction was a bit over the top, but he did nothing other than turn toward Smith, throw the flag (as he appeared to quickly regain his composure compared to what it looked like he wanted to do), and then discuss it with the other refs. It's not like he came at Smith and so much as even touched him again.
