Looks like good 'ol Silicon Valley refuses to dip below the $3 mark. Lowest I've seen is 3.17.

2.32 last night. Weren't there some in this thread saying it would be over 7 dollars a gallon at the end of the year?

Went from $2.49 this morning to $2.34 by afternoon. I'm not quite ready to dream of $1.99, but...

Filled up for 2.199 in Ohio tonight. Seems like the PA stations need to get the memo tho, most of them are still at 2.69 or higher.

The expert that first predicted $4 gas, said we'd see $10 dollar gas in the next three. Now they are saying we'll probably see $2.50 over the next two. |

LOL. I guess the gas station owner was wrong. I filled up today (3 days after the quoted post) at the same gas station for $1.87/gallon. 12 cent drop in 3 days. It took nearly a week less than he predicted. |

Bought gas this morning for $1.61/gallon. Every visit to the gas station over the past couple of months has resulted in positive sticker shock.

1.87 now in an Ohio spot I drive by every night. Still 2.39 in town. With a 50 cent gap, it's like getting lunch for free(on my daily 9.5ish gallon purchase) if I wait and fill up instead of doing it before hand.
Stupid place only takes cash though, bummer. |

I know you're somewhat joking with this comment, but truck sales are through the roof right now in the rural midwest. The decrease in demand when gas was $3+ resulted in huge $15K rebates on trucks. With the gas price dropping rapidly, there's a ton of farmers who are buying new trucks with those rebates to replace their old ones that they've had for a long time. We have a family friend that runs a dealership about 50 miles outside of KC. Over the first 6 months of this year, they were lucky to sell 3 new trucks a month. Since July, they've been averaging 15 trucks a month in sales. They're not making a ton on the sales, but at least they're moving inventory at a small profit. |

psst... "The sign in front of a Seven Eleven store in Independence, Mo., shows the price of one gallon of unleaded regular gasoline at $1.69.9 on Wednesday. Oil prices dropped below $57 a barrel Wednesday as a Bank of England warning about the risk of deflation stoked fears of stagnating global growth." My station dropped to $2.39 which is still pissing me off because the other station we own has been at $2.29 for 2 weeks... Lowest I know of (non-member) is $2.19 locally. |

Just dropped below $2 in some stations near here now.
Personally I am expecting the 'interest' in alternative fuels to disappear in the next few months at which point we can expect gas prices to resume normal upward mobility imho. PS - I filled up my SUV from empty for $37 yesterday, compared to near $80 a year or so ago ... one heck of a difference. Last edited by Marc Vaughan : 11-17-2008 at 12:41 PM. |

Hit $1.99 here yesterday.
I do hope that President-elect Obama keeps his eye on the ball with respect to alternative fuels, though, because I know this is just a temporary respite. The private sector may drop the issue (again) because of profitability concerns, although you'd hope SOMEBODY is looking long-term, but hopefully it remains a priority of the incoming government. |

$1.68-$1.72 around here.
And as SackAttack said, the wife and I were talking the other day about how it will shoot up again. This is like a modern version of 9-10 years ago when it dropped down to $0.76 a gallon here. I still have wet dreams about those days.

In some ways I wish they would incorporate an alternitive energy tax into the cost of a gallon of gas. To pay for development of clean energy technologies, that don't rely on us getting oil out of the sand. But I have so little faith in the government being able to do anything these days, let alone how the hell they would misallocate the money.
We put a fuckin man on the moon in 8 or 9 years, but we can't quickly develop a way to make affordable transportation that doesn't rely on us appeasing unreasonable people? 07-08 were horrible periods for working lower middle class families. It wasn't just the fuel alone, it was all the other bullshit associated costs(food, utilities) that increased. Much much more than the amount of your wages increased. Not to mention, being in sales has been hell all year, everyone is feeling this shit and not much buying is going on. So I've made considerably less money vs. last year in that particular job. Crude is now at 55 bucks, and it's been around 60ish for the past several weeks. I like paying 1.77 in some places. But to see local stations still at 2.19 makes me wonder if I'm getting ripped off by them.
