Manchester's Major CL #1 Batter in April

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and George Major is no exception. The Manchester center fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In April Major hit .341 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored.


April's Best RL Hitter is Palmer Walters

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Palmer Walters put together a solid offensive month for Waikiki and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .353 with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

CL's Top Pitcher in April Is Conboy

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Phil Conboy still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 34-year-old starter for Oshawa was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 2 losses with 47 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.74 ERA in 41.1 innings of work.


Gallegos Best RL Starter in April

Veteran Marcos Gallegos put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Spring Lions, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Gallegos racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.59 ERA over 39.2 innings and striking out 31.

The best Continental League rookie in April was St Louis's right fielder Jorge García.

Jaime Martínez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Maricopa second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .379 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Martínez also scored 6 times and drove in 13 runs.

Jofre Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy

In May, Fernando Jofre let his bat do the talking for him. The Plantana right fielder smacked the ball at a .426 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 10 home runs, drove in 30 and scored 31 runs.

In 52 games this season Jofre is batting .375 with 78 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 45 runs and driven in 54.


May's Premier Batter Announced

Free agent-to-be Brett Hamilton has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In May, the 36-year-old Ann Arbor right fielder hit .308 with 7 home runs and 24 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Hamilton's current batting average stands at .256 and he has chalked up 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in May

Vicente Rosado is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for May.

He made 14 relief appearances for Plantana last month, throwing 18.1 innings and collecting 9 saves, a 3-0 record, 22 strikeouts and a 0.98 ERA.

This year Rosado has 24 relief appearances with 12 saves, 3-1 season record and a 2.08 ERA. He has hurled 34.2 innings, given up 29 hits, struck out 39 and walked 9. Opposing clubs have batted .223 against the Plantana reliever.


Wolverines Hurler Named RL's #1 Starter

Andrés Santos has made fans throughout FOOL-X take notice over the past month with an exceptional 5-1 record. No pitcher in the Republic League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 7 starts Santos compiled a 1.65 ERA, putting up a 5-1 record, striking out 52 and tossing 43.2 innings.

Currently Santos has a record of 6-5 with 93 strikeouts and 20 walks in 82.1 innings and a 2.30 ERA.

CL Announces Rookie of the Month

Sam Gordon was voted the Continental League Rookie of the Month award for his standout play in May.

The 26-year-old Manchester second baseman batted .309, hit no home runs and drove in 8 runs. He also tagged 29 hits, scored 11 runs and picked up 12 walks for a .380 on-base percentage.

For the year Gordon is batting .260 with 47 hits and no home runs. He has scored 19 times and driven in 9


Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Forrest Holland emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Portland deserved the honor, batting .349 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Holland enjoy the limelight.

This season Holland has hit 7 home runs and posted a .329 batting average.

Head of Havana CL Batter of the Month

In June, Jason Head beat the baseball like a drum the entire month and netted the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

In 25 games the Havana center fielder hit .308 with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Posting a .305 batting average to date, Head has 20 home runs and 62 RBIs.


RL's #1 Batter Chosen

Bartolo Guevara battered Republic League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Guevara told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Guevara hit .357 with 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

Looking at his present stats, Guevara has compiled a .311 batting average in 81 games with a .369 on-base percentage, while hitting 23 home runs and driving in 78 runs.

Washington's Oshima Chosen June's Best in CL

The Washington Freedom celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Narihira Oshima had been selected as June's Continental League Pitcher of the Month. Oshima's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Oshima said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Oshima tossed 41.2 innings last month, holding opponents to a .207 average while striking out 37 batters. In 6 starting assignments he came away with a 5-0 record, putting together an ERA of 0.43.

In pitching stats this season Oshima has rung up 9 wins and 6 losses in 17 games. He has an ERA of 2.43 and has fanned 125 batters in 115 innings.


Morales Named Top RL Hurler

Carlos Morales's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 6-0 in June, the 26-year-old Portland hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 46 in 43 innings, logged an ERA of 1.67 and allowed opponents to hit .186 against him.

In 17 starts this season Morales has registered a 8-6 record and a 3.08 ERA.

#1 Continental League Newcomer Named

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Juan Cedeño just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 20-year-old second baseman for Oshawa hit .357 with 20 hits, no home runs and 6 RBI. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .413 on-base percentage.

Cedeño is currently hitting at a .277 pace with no home runs and 16 RBIs.


June's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself

Forrest Holland is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Portland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .372 average with 32 hits, 1 home run and 21 RBIs.

This year Holland has hit at a .344 pace and produced 45 RBIs, 8 home runs and scored 26 runs.

Jofre Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in July

It's official. BNN writers have voted Fernando Jofre of the Plantana Pirates the Continental League Batter of the Month award for July.

During the month he recorded a .365 average with 7 home runs, 31 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

In this current campaign Jofre is hitting at a .373 clip with 32 home runs and 104 RBIs.


Republic League Picks July's Best Batter

Jimmy McIlwrath of the Cleveland Naps was named the Republic League's best batter for his fine performance in July.

He compiled a .407 batting average and .480 on-base percentage during the month. In 27 games he piled up 44 hits, 5 home runs, 31 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

In 106 games this season McIlwrath has compiled a .298 batting average with 130 hits and 24 home runs. He has also scored 73 times and knocked in 90 runs.

Roberto Mejía took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for July.

The 23-year-old Freedom starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 34 batters in 34.1 innings and compiled a 2.10 ERA.

Mejía has fashioned a 8-7 mark for the season, 3.34 ERA and thrown 129.1 innings in 21 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him


Rattlers Stewart July's #1 Pitcher

Andre Stewart was the anchor in the Maricopa bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 29-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 20 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 4-1 record with 16 strikeouts and 4 saves while etching his 2.70 ERA.

This year Stewart has collected 20 saves in 47 relief appearances. He has also compiled a 7-3 won-lost mark with a 1.46 ERA and fanned 63 batters in 67.2 innings. Opponents are hitting him at a .175 clip in 2102.

Hernández CL Winner, Top Hurler in August

The hottest hurler in the Continental League last month was Jaime Hernández of the Washington Freedom. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the CL Pitcher of the Month.

In August, Hernández starred with an impressive 5-0 record. In 6 starts he gave up 26 base hits and struck out 48 in 41.2 innings with a 1.94 ERA.

His record for the year is 12-5 in 27 starts and Hernández has a 2.95 ERA.

There was nobody finer on the mound in August and Greg Brennan cruised to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today.

To date this season Brennan sports a 12-8 mark with a 3.18 ERA in 27 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .228 batting average and has 176 strikeouts in 161.1 innings.

In the last year of his deal with Manchester, Sixto Cruz has created some waves by winning September's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .333 batting average with 8 home runs, 33 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 14 walks and a .406 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

This season Cruz is swinging the bat at a .282 pace. He has hit 31 home runs and scored 87 times, while driving in 112. His on-base percentage is .345 and he has played in 161 games.

Last month was a very good one for Dave Fitzsimmons of Havana. So good that he has been picked as the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Fitzsimmons throttled league hitters the entire month, completing September with an impressive 5-0 mark and a 1.71 ERA in 6 starts with 23 strikeouts in 42 innings.

This season Fitzsimmons has compiled a 13-9 mark with a 4.50 ERA in 32 starts.

It was a very good month for Bartolo Delgado in September. The 37-year-old veteran starter for the Maricopa Rattlers outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

I guess I'm going to have to start checking salary cap figures twice. We had a couple things popup in this sim. I had 1 team over the cap but when I checked on opening day I had everyone down under the cap. After FA signed we had a team 150K over so my apologies.
