So I assume that means the Jets are going to be trading a d-man in the next few hours as we don't really need anyone at that position right now.

Detroit ships out Mike Commodore to Tampa for a conditional 7th round pick.

Interesting deal, especially since the Wings just lost Ericsson for 4 weeks with a broken wrist. Commodore barely played at all, but, at the moment, it leaves the Wings with just 6 healthy NHL defensemen: Lidstrom-White-Stuart-Kronwall-Quincey-Kindl.

It's possible the Wings shipped out Commodore to clear up a roster spot for another movie.

Edmoton trades defenseman Tom Gilbert to Minnesota for defenseman Nick Schultz.

This smells like a follow-up to the Quincey/Downey/1st Rounder from last week. Yzerman has no use for Commodore since the Lightning are not making the playoffs, so it looks like Holland wanted to get rid of Commodore and Yzerman helped him out....

I feel like some things might be adding up between the Jets and the Wings:

- Wings are rumoured to be after Mason
- Jets acquire a d-man despite already having lots of d-men
- Wings dump a d-man without any obvious spare d-men

Jets trade G Mason + D ??? (Oduya?) to Wings for picks/prospects/Darren Helm?

I hope this is all tongue-in-cheek. The Wings have no need to trade for a goalie at this point, and why on earth would we ever trade Helm?

Hmmm...not sure what to make of this deal. Gilbert has been a steady top pairing guy on a shitty team for a few years now. I mean, he's been playing with guys playing over their head but when playing with a healthy Whitney they were fantastic.

Playing more physical this year and still handling the puck like he can, he was our best d-man, by far. Interesting.

Schultz looks like a defensive only guy which is a little odd as it looks like we're giving up a top-4 all around, versatile guy for a one dimensional guy who would be a stretch to crack the top-4 on any team. He's a little cheaper but I think that's his only plus, at the moment. Oh, he's a good locker room guy, by all accounts, but I think Gilbert is as well.

Guess we'll see how it all shakes out but my guess is Jeff Petry's progress may have made Gilbert expendable (in the Oilers' eyes, at least) but I think you need as many puck movers back there as possible so it's a bit of head scratcher if you ask me.

The theory isn't really tongue-in-cheek, radio here is mentioning Detroit as a suitor for Mason. The Helm thing is just me throwing out a Winnipeg native as being the type of player the Jets covet.

Pahlsson for two 4th rounders. Howson giving Garth Snow a run for league's worst GM.

2nd and 3rd 2013 picks for Oduya.

His name is Samuel Pahlsson.
His name is Samuel Pahlsson.
His name is Samuel Pahlsson.

I look forward to when Datsyuk introduces himself to Johnny Oduya.

Oduya: "Hi, Pavel. My name's Johnny. I play defense."

/Datsyuk pulls off a Datsyukian deke and completely undresses Odyuy and scores.

Datsyuk: "Oh? Do ya?"

That's all I got.

Nashville gets Gaustad and a 4th round pick for a 1st round pick.

I like Gaustad, but a 1st round pick is a pretty steep price to pay for a 3rd line center who is a potential UFA.

He was a guy that Rangers fans really wanted for the stretch run/playoffs for his faceoff ability primarily. I think heading into last week, the price was thought to be something like a 3rd and a low level prospect.

Really surprised the Caps stood pat. They aren't good enough to win it all and they have some expiring contracts they could have moved.

I blame the fat fuck.

Well, Zack Kassian did do a pretty good job when he fought Scott Thornton last week and apparently the presence of Scott Thornton was the difference between Boston and Vancouver, so...

He better win a fight with Scott Thornton. He's 42 and hasn't played hockey in 4 years. (Shawn, I'm guessing?)

Kassian has potential, but he hasn't been too physical in his time with the big boys.

Highway robbery for the Sabres. Goose is a good 4th line player with some physical play, a good PK, and win face-offs, but not a 1st round pick.

Apparently chaper 14 in "running an NHL team into the ground for Dummies" is throw your star player under the bus after the trade deadline, when you failed to move him and it doesn't really matter for another few months. Good to know.

And what's with the Oilers just resuming where they left off 15 years ago and kicking us in the nuts again? God I hate that team!

Yeah, the Oilers really don't need any more wins at this point, they should have just mailed it in!

I will say this, that place was loud!!

If the Jets get into the playoffs, they could really surprise some teams as they have some big, talented forwards who could really take over a game and/or series.

Apparently chaper 14 in "running an NHL team into the ground for Dummies" is throw your star player under the bus after the trade deadline, when you failed to move him and it doesn't really matter for another few months. Good to know.

It was reported that the Rangers increased their offer for Nash to Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, 2011 1st rounder JT Miller, Christian Thomas, and a 2012 1st. Previously, Erixon was out of the deal, with 2010 1st rounder Dylan McIlrath in his place, and Miller was considered untouchable. Seems like nothing would get done while Sather refused to part with McDonagh or Del Zotto. Thankfully he held his ground. I was comfortable with the offered deal on Sunday, and if that modified one went through, I would have been so-so on it.

When you factor in the length of Nash's cap hit, I would really be surprised if Howson could do better than that offer. What he reportedly was demanding from San Jose was absurd.

Darned if I understand how they can leave the "C" on Nash at this point ... although when I look at their roster I'm not sure where else you'd put it either, Umberger I guess? (having looked at their A's)

Seems like a bad situation. I don't blame Nash for asking out, I don't blame mgmt for letting him take the bullet for doing so either.

Pens/Stars on NBC Sports has been great. Tied at 3, 3 mins left in regulation.

Took the kids to Disney on Ice tonight, but home in time for the third.

If Letang is out for an extended period of time, this team isn't a contender anymore.

I thought Gubradson did about as good a job as he could given the 5-on-1.

Not only did I confuse Shawn Thornton with Scott Thornton in that post, I believe I also totally confused Zack Kassian with Matt Kassian.

Shit got crazy.

Carlyle replaces Wilson in Toronto. Least surprising news ever.

In other news, Joffrey Lupul hangs himself
