There were a couple shifts where the Ducks had solid pressure and it was so fun to listen to, you'd hear super loud booing for 10 seconds, then Selanne would receive a pass and it would instantly flip to a wild cheer, then he'd cycle it off and instantly the boos were back... so awesome!

I was flipping out when that went in. Guessing this is the Phoenix feed but the Rangers announcer had already said "and we're going to overtime". The MSG broadcast didn't go into the corner at the end there so there was a better view of it. The shot actually went off a Coyote skate, off the post and in.

Also in this video, Torts smiles a real smile, not a cynical "I'm done listening to this ref's bs" smile!

Milan Lucic gets one game for his most recent hit on Zac Rinaldo. To me, of all the things Lucic has done in the last year, this was the weakest of the group.

Definitely more of a 'lifetime achievement' ban from Shanny on this one.

I think Deryk Engelland may have a meeting with a Mr. Shanahan soon.

Pens looked good for 2 periods. MAF played really well.

For a pretty tough guy, Engel has never been called cheap before. But this one was. There have been worse hits uncalled, but too many of the talking points show up here: contact to the head, left his feet, player already engaged (with Dupuis). Add in that Kruger played a couple more shifts in the 1st, then sat out the final 2 periods. That's a game. Possibly 2, but I'm saying 1.

3 games for a guy who had zero record. Max Pac was considered a repeat offender when he received 3 games for the Letang hit.

Does not compute.

This road trip is brutal for the Wings. A lucky win over the Oilers notwithstanding, the last two games have been not pretty.

Took long enough, but Carolina finally wins a game that goes into OT by beating Ottawa, 2-1. It's still a lost season at this point, especially with Skinner now on IR due to concussion issues, but at least they now look somewhat better losing and occasionally winning than they did when Maurice was coaching.

Avalanche have won their 8th straight at home (something they haven't done in a season since moving to Denver). Meanwhile, they've lost 9 straight on the road. weird.

Stephen Weiss was the only forward of significance I thought they were missing that night. The Bruins are a true machine though, beasts of the East.

ESPN needs to get over their issues with the NHL. Their program on athletes who died in 2011 neglected to mention a single hockey player. Not a word on Derek Boogaard, Pavol Demitra, Rick Rypien or those tragically killed in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash. What a disgrace.

Only if they could conclusively link Boogard or Rypien to concussions from fighting, in which case they'd have been lined up to rail against the evils of hockey.

While I think it's pretty low, I am not surprised. Barring a Steelers MNF game or ocassionally flipping to ESPN News in the morning, it's entirely out of my rotation. All about the E and too little SP.

Looks like my father, myself, and my son will be going to the Coyotes/Wings game in February. Very excited about this, I haven't been to a Wings game since 1999 (they were eliminated from the playoffs in that game by the Avalanche and it was the first time I had seen Chelios in a Wings uniform).

My son has never been to an NHL game and he doesn't know about this yet, it is part of his Christmas present.

They are still more talented than at least a handful of the teams directly in front of them - Winnipeg and Ottawa, and arguable Toronto and NJ. And even Florida, who I am still not sure how exactly they are doing it.

Kevin Dineen's an excellent coach. I watched him work for a few years up here in Portland with the AHL team.

That blows, should only be 2-2 as the play was offside on that second Rangers goal.

Best efforts of the refs? You mean the blown offside that led to the Rangers' second goal? The whistle while the puck was free and about to be shot into a wide open net? The correct call on the penalty shot?

The penalty shot was a fair call, but there was plenty of other garbage in the 3rd period.

Delay of game on McDonagh was awful.

Though, it wasn't limited to only the Flyers. Just seemed like Uncle Gary was pushing all the buttons, Buffalo Wild Wings style, to get that game to OT in the final 5 minutes.

Even though the Flyers lost, it was a great event to be at...the Alumni game was great too. Seeing Bernie on the ice...Bobby Clarke, and Bill Barber. Hat tip to the Ranger player who shot into Bernie's pads on the breakaway. That was class.

Neither team can really complain about the refs because each team got away with murder. The Rangers just have the Flyers number. They have a lot of Vets that the Flyers don't have anymore that puts them over the edge. I was glad to see Schenn finally get his first goal hopefully it isn't his only one (aka Danny Syvret who score the Flyers lone goal in their last WC and it ended up being his only NHL goal).

Glad you enjoyed it. My NYR friends who were there had a great time and said the interaction between the groups of fans was great and (all things considered) classy.
