    Boxing Union?

Seeing as there's some boxing fans on here I thought I would bring this up. Last night on the national sports radio show PRIME TIME SPORTS the host had James P. Hoffa and ____ Mustaffa Muhammed (sorry I forget his first name) on the show to discuss their quest to create boxing's first union.

Hoffa seems to be the muscle behind the operation as he said what they want to do is give boxing standardized contracts. In other words he wants fair contracts that would provide for the little fighters that don't get the big bucks like the Lewis', De La Hoyas, and Tysons.

They also seem to want to want to broaden the sport by putting it on regular tv instead of keeping it exclusively on HBO and ESPN. They know they have the monumental task of getting the promoters like Arum and King to sign on to this and Hoffa has said that Senator John McCain has lended support to this. Hoffa however, wants to do this without government regulation.

It should be very interesting to see how a boxing union would come about as people have been talking about the idea for YEARS yet no one has actually done it.

To me, it just sounds like some new crooks trying to break into some old crooks territory.
And there's a reason why Mike Tyson makes $10 mil a fight and Chris Byrd's makes $1 mil.

Er you do know that the Teamsters of today are a far cry from the old school teamsters? In fact James P. Hoffa has been given many accolades. The man has a tough background and if he could legitimize the Teamsters then he sure as hell has a good chance with boxing.

I agree with you, the Teamsters aren't like they were in the past. But just ask James P. Hoffa one simple question: "Do you know where your father is?"
