I might give this a shot-bought a PS 3 just over a month ago. Now I just need an APF for the PS3.

Another way you can play against one of your created teams (on the PS3) with only one controller is this (note: you will need 2 player profiles):

1. Hold down the PS button and go to Controller Settings, change your controller to be controller 2.
2. Set the team you want to play againt.
3. Hold down the PS button again, change your controller back to controller 1.
4. Your controller icon will now be in the middle with the team you wanted to play against still selected, go to the other side and pick the team you want to play as.
5. Hit Start and play some football.

Yes, you have to start the game as 2 players and move them to CPU before the game starts.
