Game #31

ARIZONA 7, ATLANTA 2 (14)

Paul Goldschmidt tied it in the top of the ninth off of reliever Jason Grilli

5/6/16
Atlanta, GA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks keep finding ways to win in 2016. On Friday night, they used a Paul Goldschmidt solo home run in the ninth to tie the game, then scored five times in the top of the 14th inning to win the opener of a three game weekend series in Atlanta, 7-2 over the Atlanta Braves.

It did not start out great for DBacks ace Zack Greinke. He gave up two solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first was on his first pitch of the game as Ender Inciarte belted one deep into the right field seats. Two batters later, Freddie Freeman unloaded on a Greinke fastball and put it deep into the right field seats to make it 2-0.

David Peralta would get the DBakcs back to within a run, as he hit a solo home run to center in the fourth, it was his ninth on the season.

It would remain 2-1 into the ninth. Paul Goldschmidt hit the first pitch that he saw from reliever Jason Grilli deep into the left field seats to tie the game at 2-2, sending the game into extra innings.

In the 14th, the DBacks blew the top off of this one. Phil Gosselin hit a two-run double to right with the bases loaded to put the DBacks up 4-2. He came into the at bat, struggling with a (.133) average). Chris Herrmann then sigled to center scoring both Tomas and Gosselin to make it 6-2. A.J. Pollock would cap off the inning with an RBI single to right.

Daniel Hudson pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit to pick up his first win of 2016.

Paul Goldschmidt extended his hitting streak to 10 games, but saw his batting average drop to (.388) as he went 2 for 6. He leads the National League in batting average and RBIs (28).

The series resumes on Saturday evening with Patrick Corbin (2-2, 4.19) going up against Williams Perez (1-2, 6.49).

Game #32

ARIZONA 3, ATLANTA 2

Patrick Corbin shook off a shaky start to pick up his third victory.

5/7/16
Atlanta, GA (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks ran their winning streak to four games on Saturday night as they held on for a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. Patrick Corbin shook off a shaky start, then went sent innings to pick up his third win on the season.

Atlanta grabbed the early lead again as they touched up Patrick Corbin in the first inning, turning three hits into a run.

But that lead was once again short lived as Phil Gosselin made Williams Perez pay for a two out walk to Joaquin Arias in the second as he belted his second home run on the year, a two-run shot to left to give the DBacks the lead.

Arizona (21-11) would add to that lead in the sixth as Arias lined an RBI single to right to make it 3-1.

Josh Collmenter came on in relief of Patrick Corbin to start the eighth and gave up a lead off solo home run to Freddie Freeman. It was Freeman's 10th on the year. Collmenter lasted just one more batter as he gave up a single to Adonis Garcia.

Andrew Chafin came on and got the DBacks out of the eighth and he pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his second save. Patrick Corbin (3-2) went seven innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits. He struck out seven, while walking just one.

Paul Goldschmidt saw his 11 game hitting streak come to an end as he went 0 for 5.

The series wraps on Sunday afternoon with the National League leading Arizona Diamondbacks sending Shelby Miller (2-0, 1.91) to the mound to face Julio Teheran (1-3, 1.69).

Game #33

ATLANTA 1, ARIZONA 0

Julio Teheran dominated on Sunday afternoon, ending the DBacks winning streak.

5/8/16
Atlanta, GA (AP) – Julio Teheran tossed a gem on Sunday afternoon as the Atlanta Braves avoided a sweep of their three game weekend series, salvaging the finale 1-0 over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Turner Field. Teheran tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out four and not issuing a walk.

Once again, for the third consecutive game, the Braves scored in the first inning. Drew STubbs laced a one-out double to left off of Shelby Miller. He scored on a Freddie Freeman bloop single over third base to put the Braves up 1-0. That one run would hold up.

Arizona (21-12) had their best chance to score in the eighth, loading the bases with two outs and Paul Goldschmidt at the plate. But Arodys Vizcaino got Goldschmidt to hit a lazy fly to right to get out of the inning.

Jason Grilli pitched a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save for the BRaves as they held on for the 1-0 win.

Arizona will now finish their nine game road trip in Denver as they play three games against the last place Rockies.

Game #34

COLORADO 6, ARIZONA 5 (10)

Backup catcher Tom Murphy scores on a suicide squeeze in the 10th.

5/9/16
Denver, CO (AP) – The last place Colorado Rockies stole game one of their midweek series with the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 in extra innings on Monday night at Coors Field. Carlos Gonzalez laid down a perfect suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 10th to plate the winning run.

This one was a back and forth affair throughout. Arizona grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning on a Yasmany Tomas RBI double, scoring Phil Gosselin. The Rox tied it up in the bottom of the frame on a Ryan Rayburn solo home run off of Robbie Ray.

Paul Goldschmidt hit his 10th home run on the year, a two run shot to left, in the top of the third to put Arizona back in front. But the Rockies immediately responded, getting both runs back on a Dustin Garneau solo home run to left, and a Charlie Blackmon RBI triple to center.

Phil Gosselin hit his third home run on the season, a solo shot, in the top of the sixth to put the Diamondbacks back in front.

Ben Paulsen then hit a two-out, two-run pinch hit home run to center in the bottom of the seventh off of reliever Andrew Chafin to put Colorado in front 5-4.

David Peralta led off the ninth with a triple off the wall in right. He would score as Phil Gosselin reached on an infield single to tie the game at 5-5.

Brad Ziegler came on in relief for the DBacks in the tenth. Tom Murphy singled back up the middle to open the inning. Charlie Blackmon lined out to third. DJ LeMahieu singled to center with Murphy advancing to third on a hit and run. That set up Car-Go for the surprise suicide squeeze, as Murphy took off and Gonzalez laid down a perfect bunt, allowing Murphy to easily score.

The loss went to closer Brad Ziegler, who has struggled in 2016. He is (0-2) with an ERA of 6.43.

The series resumes on Tuesday evening with Rubby De La Rosa (3-0, 2.74), making his first start after coming off the DL, facing Chris Rusin (0-4, 3.62).

Game #35

ARIZONA 8, COLORADO 5 (11)

Chris Herrmann launches a three-run blast off of Christian Bergman in the 11th.

5/10/16
Denver, CO (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks rallied for an 8-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies in extra innings on Tuesday evening at Coors Field. Chris Herrmann hit a three-run home run off of reliever Christian Bergman in the 11th, after Bergman intentionally walked David Peralta.

Carlos Gonzalez got the Rockies off to a quick start, hitting a two-run home run to center in the bottom of the first off of Rubby Del La Rosa.

In the third, #GoldschmidtHappens as Paul Goldschmidt doubled home Jean Segura to get the DBacks on the board. The DBacks would take the lead in the fourth on RBI singles from Joaquin Arias and Jean Segura.

The Rockies would get one back in the bottom of the fourth as Gerardo Parra reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, scoring Nolan Arenado to tie the game at 3-3.

In the sixth, A.J. Pollock hit a pinch hit, RBI single to score Nick Ahmed, who had doubled, to give the DBacks the lead 4-3.

Arizona went to their bullpen in the bottom of the sixth, bring in Archie Bradley in relief of Rubby De La Rosa. The move backfired as Trevor Story hit a two-out, two-run home run to left, putting the Rockies in front 5-4.

Nick Ahmed would come through with a clutch two-out, solo home run off of former Diamondback reliever Chad Qualls in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 5-5.

That would set up the DBacks for the extra inning heroics from Chris Herrmann. In the 11th, Chris Owings drew a one-out pinch hit walk. Paul Goldschmidt then singled to right center, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. David Peralta was intentionally walked to face Chris Herrmann, and he made the Rockies pay. He blasted the first pitch that he saw over the wall in left. The three-run blast put the DBacks up 8-5 and sent them onto victory.

The series wraps on Wednesday afternoon with ace Zack Greinke (2-4, 3.99) going up against Yohan Flande (0-0, 6.33) in the rubber match of the three game series.

Notes: Wellington Castillo pulled a hamstring in the second inning diving back to first. He was replaced by Chris Herrmann. After the game Castillo was placed on the 15-day disabled list and the team was expected to call up Oscar Hernandez from Triple-A Reno to take his roster spot.

Game #36

ARIZONA 3, COLORADO 0

Zack Greinke is starting to live up to the hype.

5/11/16
Denver, CO (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks won the rubber match of their three game midweek series on Wednesday afternoon as they shutout the Colorado Rockies 3-0 at Coors Field. Zack Greinke tossed eight plus shutout innings, to pick up his third win of 2016.

Zack Greinke (3-4) was the story in this one. He is rebounding from a slow start and starting to look like the ace that the DBacks thought that they were getting last offseason after giving him big $$$ to sign. Greinke pitched eight plus innings, scattering six hits, while striking out nine and walking just one.

The Diamondbacks would get all the runs that they would need in the fifth inning. Joaquin Arias doubled home Nick Ahmed with one out to put the DBacks up 1-0. Arias would then score on an error from Ben Paulsen at first base as he dropped a possible third out on a grounder by Chris Owings.

Arizona (23-13) would add another run in the sixth as Yasmany Tomas singled to right, scoring Paul Goldschmidt, who had doubled.

The win allowed the DBacks to move in front of San Francisco in the National League West ahead of their four game series in Phoenix. It was the DBacks ninth consecutive series win.

Arizona completed their nine game road trip at (6-3) and returns to Chase Field for a seven game home stand against San Francisco and the New York Yankees.
