Return to Dominance V2: A New York Yankees Franchise (MLB The Show)

Intro

I started a dynasty on here with the Yankees last year... However, I got a little carried away with trades on my Franchise when I saw that the Yankees began selling in real life. Once I started doing a ton of trades to try to mimic what the team did in real life.. But what the prospects I got in return in the trades made the Franchise incredibly unrealistic. So, I'd like to give a Yankees' Dynasty another try and keep the trades in check for the most part .

With this dynasty, I downloaded 2017 rosters and simmed the 2016 season and will begin with the 2017 season since I'm not sure I want to buy The Show 17. The roster tacked on an extra year to all MLB players' contracts (absolutely genius idea), so once you advance to the 2017 season, all the contracts are like they would be on MLB The Show 17.

My goal for this New York Yankees franchise is the same as the last one... To get through at least 3 or more seasons. And this time, I will definitely try to reach my goal. I may get MLB The Show 17 at some point and import this Franchise into MLB The Show 17.

Now, when you think of the Yankees, I'm sure one of the first things that comes to mind is how they "buy" players. Well, in this Franchise I want to run the Yankees a different way... Really the way they've been run for the past season. I'm going to put a big emphasis on continuing to build up the Yankees Farm System. Now, I'm not saying I won't sign a big name player in the off-season, because I definitely will if we need a big upgrade at a position of need since GM Contracts will be on and I'll have to win ASAP. But, I really want to get some of the fantastic young prospects in the Yankees Farm System, like Gleyber Torres, Clint Frazier, Jorge Mateo, James Kaprielian, etc., starting on the big league roster. Because during the Yankees' dominance in the late 90's-early 2000's, those teams had guys like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera who played major roles in their Championship runs and they were products of the Yankees farm system.

So, I just wanted to point that out before you may think it's another Yankees Franchise where I'm just gonna go sign the best 5 free agents every year.

2016-17 Yankees Off-Season Review

Key Arrivals

CP Aroldis Chapman, OF/DH Matt Holliday, 3B Todd Frazier, RP David Robertson, RP Tommy Kahnle, 1B Garrett Cooper, RHP Albert Abreu, and RHP Jorge Guzman

Key Departures

C Brian McCann, 1B Mark Teixeira, 1B/OF Dustin Ackley, SP Nathan Eovaldi, RHP Nick Goody, LHP Tyler Webb, RP Tyler Clippard, OF Blake Rutherford (Top 50 Prospect)

Off-Season in Review

The Yankees didn't do too much to help their MLB squad this off-season, but did a lot to help bolster an already fantastic Minor League system.

First of all, the Yankees went out and signed 6 time All-Star LF/DH Matt Holliday to a 1 Year, $13.00M deal. So, Holiday will almost certainly start for the Yankees as their DH for the 2017 season. Then, the Yankees signed flame-throwing Closer Aroldis Chapman to the largest contract an MLB closer has ever received. It was a 5 Year Deal worth $86 Million. In case you forgot, the Yankees traded Chapman at the 2016 Trade Deadline to the Cubs for Gleyber Torres, Adam Warren, and other prospects. Gleyber Torres is now the Yankees' top prospect and Adam Warren is arguably the Yankees' top reliever not named Betances or Chapman.

The Yankees also traded Catcher Brian McCann to the Houston Astros in return for Minor League Pitchers, Jorge Guzman and Albert Abreu. McCann lost his starting job to Gary Sanchez and his production decreased from previous years, which led to the trade. The Yankees will save $23 Million of the $34 Million guaranteed to McCann over the final 2 years of his contract.

To cap off off-season acquisitions, the Yankees signed 1B/DH Chris Carter to a 1 Year deal worth $3.5 Million. Carter co-led the National League in Home Runs last year with 41 home runs. However, last year he led the league in strikeouts with 206 and had a batting average of just .222... Which is how the Yankees' got him for just $3.5 Million.

The Yankees' then continued to build on what was already the best Farm System in Major League Baseball. In particular, they signed 6 players who have a shot at being named as one of the Top 50 Minor League Prospects. They are: LHP Byron Anderson, LHP Luis Ojeda, RHP Carlos Mendoza, 3B Dino Villarreal, RF Francisco Lopez, and LF Brad Quinones. That's not to mention the fact that the Yankees already have SS Gleyber Torres, 2B Jorge Mateo, RF Blake Rutherford, CF Clint Frazier, RHP James Kaprielian, and RHP Domingo German as players who also have a shot at being named to the Top 50 Minor League Prospects list.

All in all, the Yankees continued to build up their fantastic Farm System... And all this talent could either help them build another dynasty or be used as trade pieces for already established players... But, the Yankees didn't make big splashes that could help their big league club immediately... Like Boston did by acquiring star SP, Chris Sale.
