Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Iwakuma outduels Scherzer as Mariners win again

Washington - Hisashi Iwakuma pitched eight innings of shutout ball, and Robinson Cano's solo home run was enough. As the Mariners became the first team to beat Max Scherzer this season with a 1-0 win. Iwakuma had seven strikeouts in the outing before giving way to Edwin Diaz to close it out for his eighteenth save. Scherzer was equally as impressive, but his early mistake to Cano proved to be all the Mariners needed on this night. The M's will now look to get the sweep tomorrow when they send James Paxton (5-1, 2.31 ERA) to the mound to face Joe Ross (3-2, 3.00 ERA) First pitch will be at 1:05 pm.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Mariners get sweep, but lose Paxton

Washington - The Mariners got a bittersweet win on Thursday sweeping the Washington Nationals, but James Paxton was injured, and the team fears he could have an extended DL stint after a comebacker tore ligaments in his finger when he tried to barehand it. The M's sent Paxton to the DL following the game, and will call up pitcher Christian Bergman from Tacoma, who has been tearing it up with a 6-1 record and a 1.80 ERA in Triple-A. The Mariners hope he can bring some of that consistency to the rotation while they now have to go without what has been for all intents and purposes their ace this season. For the highlights, Mitch Haniger went yard again, and Dan Vogelbach finally got going with a three run homer to lead the M's to the win. Seattle has now won five in a row, and will look to continue the streak as they travel to Fenway Park for a weekend series with the Boston Red Sox. Ariel Miranda (3-3, 3.02 ERA) will get the call in the opener opposite Rick Porcello (4-5, 3.38 ERA). First pitch will be at 4:10 pm.

Tough to lose Paxton, are you planning on riding AAA guys till he gets back or making a trade?

Right now ride AAA, since I have a decent lead in the division, Paxton will be back after the break most likely

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Mariners use home run barrage to rally and beat Red Sox

Boston - Kyle Seager's second home run tied the game in the ninth inning, and Mike Zunino, and Leonys Martin homered in extras, as the Mariners came from behind to defeat the Boston Red Sox Friday night, and extend their winning streak to six games. Ariel Miranda was serviceable for the Mariners going six innings giving up three runs, but it was Kyle Seager's unreal start to the 2017 campaign that kept Seattle in it. Seager now has 18 home runs on the year and is on pace to shatter his career mark in that category. Edwin Diaz also came on in the extra frames to record his twentieth save of the year. It was his third appearance in as many days however, and Manager Scott Servais said after the game that Diaz will sit tomorrow no matter if a save situation comes up or not. Speaking of tomorrow, the Mariners will be back at it at 1:05 pm with Yovani Gallardo (3-3, 4.45 ERA) going to the mound to face Drew Pomeranz (1-2, 3.02 ERA).

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Mariners streak snapped at six, as Red Sox batter Gallardo for win

Boston - Yovani Gallardo couldn't make it out of the fourth inning, as control problems allowed the Red Sox to bang him around all afternoon, and after a run was walked in that finally spelled the end for the Mariners starter as the Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead before hanging on to win 6-2. The bullpen shut down the Sox the rest of the way as a lone bright spot for the M's while Mitch Haniger went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow as the M's send Felix Hernandez (4-5, 4.82 ERA) to the mound to try and get back on track against Eduardo Rodriguez (5-3, 2.91 ERA). First pitch is at 10:35 am.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Errors, and bullpen dooms Mariners as Red Sox take series

Boston - The Mariners gave up ten runs on Sunday, but only two of them were earned by the Red Sox, as a couple of errors by Shawn O'Malley filling in at third for Kyle Seager who needed a day off, sentenced the Mariners to defeat as the Sox used a six run eighth inning to put them away. Seattle rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, as Felix Hernandez struggled through the second inning, but was sharp and effective otherwise getting through seven innings before things blew up on the M's in the eighth. Seattle won't get time to dwell on the loss before their next series as they fly back out west to face the Colorado Rockies in for two at Coors Field before flying back to Safeco to host the Rockies. The Mariners will send Hisashi Iwakuma (6-3, 3.27 ERA) to the mound to face young phenom Tyler Chatwood (5-2, 1.90 ERA). First pitch will be at 12:10 pm.
