40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

2017 Mariners Season Preview

2017 marks the 40th anniversary of the Seattle Mariners franchise, will this finally be the year for the boys in blue?

The Seattle Mariners are one of only two teams in MLB to have never reached the World Series (Washington Nationals). Now in their 40th year of existence, they have officially reached Steve Carrell levels as far as popping the cherry goes. None the less there is optimism in Seattle that the club could make a post season push, and possibly finally breakthrough to the series. With a slough of young rookies, surrounding a veteran core in the lineup, and a King at the top of the rotation who is looking to take back his throne, many experts are picking the Mariners to finally take their place atop a competitive AL West.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Hernandez powers M's to opening day win

Houston - Felix Hernandez pitched a solid eight innings to start the season, and the Mariners bats bashed three home runs, as Seattle was able to get an opening day win 6-1 over the Houston Astros. Felix had five strike outs on the night without giving up a walk as Astros hitters were baffled all night, with a home run by Carlos Beltran being the only blemish. On the other side the Mariners were hitting them out of Minute Maid, including a 471 foot bomb by Mike Zunino that left the park. The two teams are back at it again tomorrow when Hisashi Iwakuma takes the mound to go up against Lance McCullers. First pitch is at 7:10pm PST.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Iwakuma goes eight scoreless as Mariners get 3-0 win

Houston - Hisashi Iwakuma dazzled the Astros for eight innings as the Mariners did not allow a run in their 3-0 victory Tuesday night. Edwin Diaz came on to get a 1, 2, 3 ninth to earn his first save of the year as well, as the Mariners got timely hits from Leonys Martin, Kyle Seager, and Danny Valencia to drive in their runs. Seattle will look for their third straight win to start the year tomorrow night as they send James Paxton to the mound to square off with Mike Fiers. First pitch is at 7:10 pm.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Mariners bust out brooms, and sweep Astros in 4 games

Houston - The Mariners couldn't have asked for a better start to the season. Ariel Miranda pitched seven strong innings, and Robinson Cano connected for his first home run of the year, as the Mariners completed the four game road sweep with a 3-1 win. Edwin Diaz got his third save of the year as well although he had to struggle to do so, as the Astros got the winning run to the plate, but were unable to cash in. Seattle will now hit the road to Anaheim to face the struggling Angels, who got dealt a four game sweep themselves. Yovani Gallardo will make his Mariner debut taking on Ricky Nolasco. First pitch is at 7:07 pm.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Mariners can't hold on late, drop first game of season to Halos

Anaheim - The Angels rallied for three runs in the eighth to get their first win of the year, while the Mariners suffered loss number one as the Angels got a 4-2 win Friday night. Yovani Gallardo was impressive in his Mariner debut going seven strong innings, but the bullpen could not hold the slim lead for the starter, as Mike Trout, and the gang got to Evan Scribner for three runs after Gallardo left the game. Seattle will look to get back on track tomorrow when they send King Felix (1-0, 1.13 ERA) to the mound to face Garrett Richards (0-0, 3.00 ERA). First pitch is at 7:07 pm.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Angels rough up Hernandez, beat M's 8-1

Anaheim - The Los Angeles Angels clubbed four home runs off of Felix Hernandez, including back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning by the heart of the order, Trout, Pujols, and Cron, and Garrett Richards went the distance with a complete game effort as the Angels took the second game of the series from the M's. Hernandez gave up six runs in total, as he was pulled after four innings in a very ineffective effort that is worrisome for the Mariners. Seattle will try to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow when they send Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound to face Matt Shoemaker (0-1, 3.60 ERA). That game will start with a first pitch at 12:37 pm.

Re: 40 Year Old Virgins - Mariners Franchise

Angels sweep away Mariners with 9-6 win

Anaheim - Hisashi Iwakuma got roughed up for ten hits, and seven runs, and Mike Trout continued his hot hitting for the Angels, as they were able to out slug the Mariners Sunday afternoon to complete the three game sweep. Kyle Seager had three hits for the Mariners including a two run shot, but it wasn't enough to keep down the hot hitting of the halos, who scored twenty-one runs in the three game series after Mariner pitching dominated the Astros. Speaking of the Stros, they head to Safeco Field tomorrow for the Mariners home opener. That game will have a special start time of 2:10 for first pitch. It will be James Paxton (1-0, 1.35 ERA), facing Mike Fiers (0-1, 5.06 ERA).
