Milwaukee, WI (AP) – The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park to take three of four from the National League West leaders over the weekend. Travis Shaw was once again the difference as he went 2 for 3 with a home run and drove in four to lead the Brewers to the victory.
Goldy went 4 for 5 with a double and RBI in the loss. Milwaukee grabbed an early lead off of Taijuan Walker as Travis Shaw singled to center to score Jonathan Villar with two-outs in the first inning.
In the third, Taijuan Walker inflicted some damage on himself. After Villar and Keon Broxton singled to open the inning, a Walker wild pitch advanced both runners. Walker then unleashed another wild pitch allowing Villar to score. Travis Shaw would add a sacrifice fly to left to score Broxton and make it 3-0.
Arizona's bats came to life in the fourth off of Zach Davis. Yasmany Tomas lined out to left to open the inning, with Kirk Nieuwenhuis having to leave the game with an upper body injury, after making the diving catch. Brandon Drury walked, and Nick Ahmed flew out to left. Chris Iannetta singled to right. Taijuan Walker then singled to center to load the bases. A.J. Pollock ripped an RBI single back up the middle to get the DBacks on the board. David Perralta then singled to right scoring both Iannetta and Walker to tie the game at 3-3. Paul Goldschmidt capped the inning with an RBI single, scoring A.J. Pollock to give the DBacks the lead.
That lead would be short lived as the Brewers tied it up in the bottom half on an another Taijuan Walker wild pitch. This time it was Ryan Cordell scoring. He doubled and reached third on a ground out before scoring on Walker's third wild pitch.
Travis Shaw would hot a two-run shot in the fifth off of Walker to put the Brewers back in front, 6-4. That would be the end of the night for Walker as he went five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits in taking the loss.
Zack Davis (6-1) lasted into the sixth, going 5 1/3 and scattering 10 hits and allowing four runs, but he picked up the win. His bullpen ****down the DBacks over the final 3 2/3 innings with Neftali Felix picking up his 12th save.
Arizona (29-23) will now continue their road trip in Pittsburgh where they will face the Pirates tomorrow afternoon for a Memorial Day matinee. Patrick Corbin (1-2, 2.79) will face Ivan Nova (5-2, 2.08) in the opener.
