Re: The Spirit of Detroit | Detroit Pistons MyLeague
League Recap - November 2016 November 21, 2016 | by Hang Time __________________________________________________ First month of the fresh season is almost over and we have gathered top 5 stories which were the most impactful over the course of November.
1. Reggie Jackson to Orlando. Stan Van Gundy was the first one to pop the cherry of this season's trade carousel. Elfrid Payton and Jeff Green found a new home in Detroit, however Green's contract is expiring, so it's probably a good idea to leave the bags packed, just in case. Payton showed up big time in the first two games in Pistons' jersey. One fluke and that is against the strong Rockets team.
Jackson had a similar outing and managed to surprise many in his first game in Orlando, however 1-16 shooting in his second one has many fans wondering whether the move was right. I am sure Van Gundy and Bower are very happy for the acquisition.
Unfortunately, Detroit has yet to find their winning combination and currently struggles to a 3rd worst record in the East.
2. Okafor to Pacers. Unfortunate news hit the Pacers' camp during November as we learned that Myles Turner had a season ending injury and unfortunately will have to miss this year with a ruptured achilles. Pacers were quick to pull the trigger and offer Lavoy Allen and a top 5 protected 1st rounder to 76ers for Jahlil Okafor, who struggles to find his rhytm behind Embiid (who by all means will be Rookie of the Year). In addition we have off-court issues with Okafor, which did not stop Pacers offering a generous first round pick. It's definitely win-now time in Indiana.
3. Nets taking a chance on Sullinger. Sullinger started this season as a free agent, however it took only 21 day for teams to show interest in him and he inked a hefty 2 year deal with Brooklyn Nets. Once highely regarded player, will probably have to struggle alongside Brook Lopez in the rebuilding Nets. However, their record this season is rather surprising and they are holding on to the 10th seat in the East. Can Sullinger solidify his position as an impactful center? Tenure with Nets will definitely show it.
4. Russell Bestbrook, I mean Westbrook. You can call him the man, the myth or the legend. Westbrook is averaging a triple double already with Thunder propelling them to a great start in the young season with 11-3. This comes as a large surprise after Durant's departure to Golden State this summer. It seems that "the decision" propelled Russell to new heights and it seems that Thunder will rely heavily on his production to have a strong season.
5. Joel Embiid, you mean the rookie? Joel Embiid has entered the NBA already a few seasons ago, but he's still a rookie - crazy right? The rook is averaging an amazing 23 point and 8 board per game stat line, complementing it with... wait for it... 3.5 blocks per game. It's scary to imagine what the Philly will be able to do in a few years, but one thing for sure - race for the ROTY will be nowhere close if Embiid can continue producing at the rate of an NBA star. __________________________________________________
