Re: The Spirit of Detroit | Detroit Pistons MyLeague
Trade review prior to the 2017 NBA Draft June 22, 2017 | by Hang Time __________________________________________________ With the 2017 NBA Draft being just hours away League Office announced 3 trades, which involved 6 different teams. We will recap these trades and see how they stack up for the involved teams.
ORL: R. Jackson for DEN: W. Chandler, '18 2nd round pick
Orlando holds the first pick of the draft and Reggie Jackson is clearly a logjam for the Magic at the point guard position. Orlando is projected to pick Markelle Fultz and that seems to be the definite move now after sending Jackson to Denver. Reggie Jackson did not woo the league after being sent to Orlando from Detroit in a trade involving Elfrid Payton.
Denver sends Wilson Chandler, who had a decent year, however did not meet the full expectations of the team. Taking in consideration Denver is trying to "get younger" they have no interest in retaining the services of Chandler at this stage and they might pursue a different forward this off-season. Nuggets hold only 25th pick, so it is unlikely they will replace Chandler via draft, however Small Forward class in Free Agency seems to be lucrative with such names like T. Evans, R. Gay, G. Hayward and even K. Durant, who has indicated he will test the free agency this year.
BKN: C. Brewer for POR: E. Turner, E. Davis, '17 1st round pick (#29)
Portland's signing of Evan Turner did not pan out as expected and Brooklyn is in the situation they are in. With a large cap space they are open to take large contracts in exchange for draft picks and some extra talent. This move for Trail Blazers indicate, that Moe Harkless has shown some amazing quality this season and it seems that Stotts is ready to give him the starting position, or at the very least extended minutes as the small forward for the Blazers. Portland also parts ways with Ed Davis, which should indicate that team will pick up the team option for Festus Ezeli this year and have him come off the bench for Nurkic, who has shown amazing talent and energy as the starter in Portland and it seems that Trail Blazers plan to splash some cash in the off-season to make the final push towards proper play-off contention.
NOP: S. Hill, E. Moore, '18 1st round pick (HOU) for SAC: B. McLemore, '17 2nd round pick (#37)
Similiar to Portland's Turner signing these two did not pan out for New Orleans. With a total of nearly 20 million per year, Solomon Hill and E'Twaun Moore did not show the quality required for their contracts and New Orleans managed to send them to the rebuilding Sacramento. Kings will be picking at #2 and #8, which will net them 2, possibly, starter quality players and Hill's defense in addition to Moore's ability to shoot beyond the arc, should compliment the young Kings team. This trade also indicates, that T. Evans and R. Gay most likely won't land back in Sac-Town, as Kings will pursue either veteran contracts or young guys for their upcoming rebuild.
