DON'T HATE NATE, DAN'S THE MAN!
July 8, 2017
Indianapolis, IN

With the 2017 Free Agency window already open, the Indiana Pacers have parted with Head Coach Nate McMillan after one season on the pine. The move came as a surprise to few - the culture in Indianapolis has been under attack since George's departure. Longtime assistant Dan Burke will coach the team for the 2017-2018 season.

President of Basketball Operations, Kevin Pritchard, announced the move on Saturday, joking "I'd be lying if I told you Dan was the first prospect for the job, right?" General Manager Chad Buchanon agreed that the move was necessary, saying "I know Nate is a good coach, but sometimes teams are puzzles, and you just can't take too long to solve that in today's NBA. I have no doubt in Dan...he's been a longtime fixture with the organization, and I know that he's got our best interest in his heart. We'll be just fine under his guiding hand."

Former NBA player Ed Pinckney joined Burke's staff on Saturday as well - after working with some of the Pacers frontcourt players, Burke decided to bring Ed on in a much bigger capacity. "It's really clear to me that the guys just like to hear it from him - Ed can walk in a room and you already trust him - its tough not to like and learn from a guy like that." said Burke to a crowded room on Pennsylvania Street.

Veteran PF Thaddeus Young was also traded on Saturday morning. The former MIN sharpshooter returned home, much to the pleasure of Minnesota's finest. C Cole Aldrich and PF Nemanja Bjelica joined the Pacers - in addition to two 2nd's in 2020. Young will bring 40%+ shooting on the perimeter for MIN as they gear up for their initial playoff push.

Pritchard, after the press conference, said "We wanted to make room for Thad here, he's such a great guy...in the end the offer was too sweet to pass up, and we like to think we sent him to a situation that a lot of folks would love to play in right now."

Pacers Ink Trio; 2019 Cap Space Looms Large
10 Jul 2017
@ShamsCharania, @TheVertical

The Indiana Pacers made a few moves on Monday morning, jumping straight into the fray - wing Bojan Bogdanovic signed a 2yr/$21M deal, and veteran point Darren Collison signed a 2yr/$24M deal. Both contracts come with a guarantee that Indiana will retain much of their 2019 cap space - at the moment, only Oladipo's contract is guaranteed past 2018. Bojan's deal comes with a team option for the second year - a move common in Pritchard's reign as the President of Basketball Ops.

"Bojan can shoot with the best of them behind the arc - not much more you can ask of a knockdown shooter. Darren gives us an edge that we seem to be lacking - his first go around in Indy was shabby, and we're hoping we can both rebound and make the best of our reunion here." Pritchard said after practice on Monday. He added, "Gerald is a guy we've [Larry Bird & Pritchard] been trying to snag for a few years. He can play 2 or 3 offensively, and he's not such a liability on defense that we can't stick him at either of those spots."

Henderson's deal was reported to be a 1yr/$2M contract - the team also announced the release of newly-arrived big man Cole Aldrich, owed ~$7M on the season.

Rookie TJ Leaf surprised the few who came out to the home opener for the 2017-2018 Indiana Pacers - Leaf ended with 18 points and 6 rebounds, as fellow twin tower Myles Turner chipped in 17 and 11. Brooklyn, behind a 31 point effort from newcomer De'Angelo Russell, shut the Pacers down for 6 total points in the 4th quarter, as they rallied from behind for the victory.

Leaf said after the game, "You know, everyone's been telling me, 'you can't win them all', but the competitor in me disagrees, I think, with a wry smile. "I'm happy we got the first game out of the way...I think I played well, and I hope that I'm able to make more of an impact in the future - it's tough with a guy like Russell torching you all night."

Darren Collison led the charge as the Pacers rallied from 6 down with 2 minutes to go, eventually scoring the go-ahead bucket with 15 seconds remaining. Glenn Robinson III, on an otherwise quiet night, mustered up the game-clinching block on Giannis, as Indiana netted their first win of the year. Oladipo, Turner, and Collison led a unit that featured 7 different players in double figures for the Pacers. Indiana improved to 1-1 on the year.

Oladipo, on playing in front of the fans here in Indiana again, was pumped after the game, "It's awesome to see situations that we prepare for pop up in games - the way we handle that says a lot about the maturity of this ball club. I'm so blessed to be back here in Indiana...the support from all my years here has never slowed, and I'm just glad that I have an opportunity to return it."

Carmelo Anthony bested all scorers on the evening with 20 points; he also had 11 assists - big man Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points and 11 boards. The Pacers survived a scare in the 2nd quarter, as center Myles Turner hit the floor hard, and had to leave the game with an apparent back injury. Indiana never really found a way to recover as the Knicks layed on 37 more coming off of halftime.

Myles Turner was not made available for comment after the game. Head Coach Dan Burke, when asked about Turner's injury, smiled and nodded, "It's always scary to see someone that large fall down - hell, 7 feet is a long way for anyone. Thankfully, we got him checked out by the medical staff here, and he looks like he'll be good to go against Brooklyn.

Bojan Bogdanovic burst onto the scene at Banker's Life Coliseum with 24 points, including 3 key three's in the 4th quarter. Bojan led all scorers on the evening - Russell was not able to repeat his performance during the opening game of the regular season, winding up with 13 points. Indiana was able to erase a 5 point deficit heading into the 4th on the heels of Bojan and rookie TJ Leaf, who chipped in another 6 in the final quarter

"Absolutely...how could I not be happy with where TJ is at?" GM Chad Buchanon replied, when asked about the rookies play. "Look, we're not expecting him to go out there and play like he's Kevin Love. Hell, it'd be nice, but its just not going to happen quite yet, so we need to temper the expectations. We're just happy to be able to get out of here with another W." The win brought the Pacers to 2-2 on the season, with a matchup with the upstart Philadelphia 76ers on the horizon.

Both teams prepare for the tip. The 76ers are fresh off a win at home versus the Spurs. Indy is off the heels of a victory over the Nets.

Turner lofts a shot up and over the oustretched arms of Joel Embiid. Turner won the battle of the bigs with a line of 34/10/1/5/0.

Glenn Robinson III throws down a thunderous drunk with 0.3 seconds left in the first half. Robinson put up a season high of 10 points.

PACERS DOMINATE; TURNER DAZZLES
Nov 10, 2017
Indianapolis, IN

It was a first quarter to remember for Myles Turner. The big man out of Texas put down 19 points, adding in another 7 in the second quarter to even out at 26 for the first half. Counterpart Joel Embiid dropped in 33 points for the game - Turner nudged him out, finishing with 34. More importantly however, the Pacers won by 21.

"Oh, I was feeling it. Not another feeling out there like it. I think I missed maybe, what, a single shot in the first? That's an incredible feeling, especially when you win." said Turner after the game. When asked about Embiid's performance, Myles offered up, "Joel is a talented, talented player man...He's a force, and I'm just glad I came out on the victorious end this time. I know people really knock him for his injuries, but when he's healthy, I'm not sure there's a more difficult matchup in the league."

Indiana can credit the large victory to assists in large part - the Pacers wracked up 41. Cory Joseph explained, "The spacing just wasn't an issue tonight.
Guys really rotated, cut, and moved the ball, and that makes everyone's jobs a little easier." Adding, with a small smile, "Especially when we don't miss."

Again, the Pacers found a way to get 7 different players into double figures. Oladipo, rookie TJ Leaf, and Domantas Sabonis combinted for 48 points. Indiana will visit Milwaukee tomorrow night to see if they can extend their streak versus the Bucks to two on the year. The next featured matchup for the squad will fall on November 23, 2017, when they visit the Thunder of Oklahoma City.

Home of the snake.

First off, the amount of detail on the post is insane.

Secondly, you really let it fly with Turner, the battle between the two bigs must have been a good one.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I tried to incorporate as much as I could of things I enjoy seeing in dynasties. Obviously, if anyone has suggestions, fire em' off!

I did let loose with Myles... I really wanted to see how well he could function. In the second half, I toyed with him at the 4 and Jefferson at the 5. That's something I may have to explore, because he was indefensible there.

The Indiana Pacers, fresh off of a two-game winning streak, found any hopes for a third win crushed as Giannis Antetokounmpo led the [3-3] Bucks to victory. Giannis recorded a triple double [21/15/13/1/2], shooting 10-19 from the field and keeping everyone involved in Milwaukee - 6 different Bucks scored in double figures.

Indiana kept it reasonably close all game - even flirting with the lead in the early 4th, but couldn't keep it together down the stretch. Rookie TJ Leaf had another strong shooting effort going 5-11 from the field, but failed to connect on his only attempt from downtown. "I just couldn't really get a look I was comfortable with. It's fun to think you can always shoot your way back into a game, but we kept it close...It's just as easy to shoot yourself out of one." the rookie said, sounding wiser than his years would suggest. "We'll be back out there to get them again. Giannis is a once-in-a-lifetime type of athlete, and he was firing on all cylinders tonight.

Returning home, Indiana once again moved to a single game above .500. Down 7 entering the 4th quarter, Victor Oladipo connected on two 3P attempts immediately to all but erase the deficit. Once again, Myles Turner wound up with a double double, putting up a line of 20/13/1/0/1. The third year man has consistently found ways to score - even with double teams that are beginning to float his way more and more often.

The story of the night however, was an injury in the second quarter to center Al Jefferson. Coming down from contact under the basket, Al came down hard on his right foot. An MRI & X-ray after the game revealed a major stress fracture - the timetable for similar injuries is somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 weeks. "I could tell the big guy was hurt - Al's a real funny guy. Serious, but funny, and you could just tell there was no happiness on his face when we helped him up." said backup big Kevin Seraphin. "You know, you never want a circumstance like this to dictate a step-up, but I'm here and I'm ready."

One player who may benefit from this exchange in more playing time for Seraphin, is close friend and backup PG/SF Lance Stephenson. "Al's gonna be back. I just want him to be healthy for the second half of the season. Kevin's young, and he's gonna do a great job of filling in. We've played a lot together, and I know his game real well." Stephenson said, when asked on what extended playing time together meant for the pair.

Visiting Miami has always been difficult for the Pacers - especially over the last few seasons. Once again, Indy found their backs against the wall as the Heat turned it up and beat the Pacers by 14. Hassan Whiteside delivered a double-double [26p/17b], and Goran Dragic followed up with his own [26p/12a] to lead Miami to the win.

For the second game in a row, Cory Joseph was able to wrack up 10 assists - keeping the second unit involved offensively was one of Head Coach Dan Burke's keys of the week. At the postgame press conference, Burke said, "Cory did a great job with the second unit. I know we were messing around a bit and throwing Lance at point for a while, but Cory's really adjusted to the changing of positions on the bench...to be frank, that's exactly what we brought him here for." Assistant Ed Pinckney, when asked about rookie TJ Leaf's ceiling, had this to say, "TJ is tremendous offensively. He's more or less exactly where we thought he'd be to begin the year. He lives a little to be desired defensively, and maybe a little on the boards, but that'll come with some weight over the offseason."

On the second night of a back-to-back, Indiana once again ended the evening with a loss - this time at the hands of the Orlando Magic. In Orlando, 3 Magic players scored 20+ [Fournier, Ross, Payton] - Indiana had three 20+ point scorers of their own, but the difference in rebounding was the tune of the night. PG Elfrid Payton put up a line of 22/10/7 for the blue and white.

Bojan Bogdanovic pulled in a season-high 10 boards to go with his 22 points. When asked about his knack for hauling in steals, he said "I always look for a way to get a hand on it...anything, a deflection...anything," shaking his head. "I'm pretty sure they hung 30+ in every quarter on us tonight. That's gotta change."

Indiana has a one day layoff before facing the Wizards at home.

Another game, another loss for the Pacers - Domantas Sabonis came down weird on his left foot. The team doctors are calling it a mild sprain - he's listed as day-to-day, however, he will not be traveling with the team to Denver. Oladipo and Turner led the way for scoring for the Pacers, but only starter Bojan Bogdanovic was able to contribute to the effort by getting into double figures. [10]

The combo of Bradley Beal and John Wall combined for 41p, 7r, 13a, 4s, 1b - Washington rallied from 3 down late to walk away with the victory on the back of John Wall's pair of 3P from the corners. Former Pacer Ian Mahimni put in an effort of 8 points and 9 rebounds from the bench.

With the Pacers strapped for playable bigs, rookie Ike Anigbogu will see meaningful minutes for the first time in his career. "I've learned a lot from Sabo...a lot. His fathers a legend, so I feel like I'm getting great advice as far as that is concerned. I'm just focused on helping where I can." the youth product from UCLA said. "I'm excited to possibly get on the floor at the same time as TJ, so we'll have to see how that works out" Ike added, obviously excited about some playing time.

Denver completely blew the roof of their own stadium - winning by 29, the Pacers weren't close after finding themselves down 23 after the first quarter. Seven different Nuggets found double figures, with Jokic putting up a line of 24/15/9/2/2.

For the second game in a row, Darren Collison was able to wrack up double-digit assists, while not scoring a point. "You know, I just haven't felt the need to shoot lately - a lot of other guys are getting open looks. It's not like I'm passing up my own opportunities - I just see other guys." Collison answered, when asked about his lack of shooting.

Indiana faces a true test with their next game coming in the heart of OKC, home of the snake, and one of Indiana's best players of the last decade, Paul George.
