Makes sense for Cotto, as he adds dollas to the bank account...pretty much the only reason left for him to fight at this point. I think Canelo is going to go after Ray Boom-Boom Mancini next...

Do you think Cotto Needs the cash? Cotto can beat Canelo. He gave Floyd fits and Canelo is no Floyd ultimately he is past his prime, but i fully expect Cotto to be in every round as he has only been whipped once in his career (fairly) and has a warrior spirit.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic

Cotto made at least $8 million for the Mayweather fight, and only $1 million against Trout (poor Austin got only a quarter of that). As he winds down his career he probably won't fight for nothing so how do you pay them both?...you probably don't.

IMO Cotto is not big enough for Alvarez. As I stated above Cotto isn't going in the ring with this guy unless he's well compensated.

Floyd Sr. confirms that the weight will only be at 147 for the Canelo fight to happen.

Floyd has a date set at the MGM in Vegas in September, any guess who through opponent will be?

Does Mayweather "need" the cash? Does Pacqiuao? It's not about "need" for more money, it's that prime money is only available for a short period of time to a select few fighters, and they have to make hay while the sun shines.

I made my comment above because Cotto really doesn't have much left to fight for; he likely won't be a serious title contender ever again (or at least not for any significant length of time), he obviously can't be undefeated, and his draw as a headline attraction in the wake of a few losses is now a mere shadow of its former glory. He still has enough name recognition and cache to get some big name fights, and that's what he'll do until it's time for him to ride off into the sunset. But he's got no real "boxing-related" goals left to pursue, at least from an outsider's perspective.

It wasn't supposed to be a disparaging comment or a suggestion that he still can't beat or be competitive with anyone in the ring, just a passing comment really. Cotto was a really good fighter, and I'll still watch him fight.

No but he loves the money enough to continue in this grueling business for a couple+ more years.

Floyd holds ALL the cards. I don't even think it's a money negotiating ploy, but if they were even willing to get a catchweight of 151 Canelo would probably pull in $5 million tops. 147 might get him to Cotto level ($8 million) money.

For $8 million Alvarez takes the 147 fight. He gets the money and a built in excuse for losing.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic

In all honesty for as much as I have defended Floyd for not wanting to fight him at 154 and having him weight 175, I don't want to see this fight at 147 and won't buy it at that weight.
