scouting slider in coaches meeting - what does it do?

the scouting bar in coaches meeting - what does that do? it takes away free time if you increase it, and if you decrease it it takes away "game" time. but what is that? its not like the scouting reports you get on your upcoming opponents change at all depending on this slider....is this related to training for the upcoming game?

I know I decrease it when I need that extra time to pursue recruits hard at the beginning of the year, but I dont know what the positive affects of turning it up would be? and if your coaches have a lot of free time, doesnt that go into training your team anyways? or do they just waste that free time playing texas hold 'em with strippers instead? i get confused on this screen and how it applies to my teams attributes..

man we need an extended online manual....

scouting bar helps in the preparedness of your team on your upcoming games... say your opponent have good outside shooters, they are prepared to counter that or if the opponent is weaker on defending the paint, your team is prepared to do an inside gameplay

i noticed that if turn up the scouting bar, i have high incidence of my players being on fire or heating up....
