Does anyone know what it generally costs to repair a PS3? I ask because I always see broken PS3's selling on ebay. Alot of times it says, "This PS3 will power on, but won't read discs". I see them go for $100 sometimes. If repairs don't cost too much, that could be a sweet deal.

Re: Repairing a PS3?
I thought about doing that myself, but you never know if you're getting a system that can even BE repaired. It's a crapshoot. I can't believe broken stuff goes for that much. I can understand if it's a RROD 360 b/c there are well established fixes for those... but since PS3's don't break down that often, you're probably going to have to send it off to a professional so in the end it might be a wash in terms of cost. -

$150.Does anyone know what it generally costs to repair a PS3? I ask because I always see broken PS3's selling on ebay. Alot of times it says, "This PS3 will power on, but won't read discs". I see them go for $100 sometimes. If repairs don't cost too much, that could be a sweet deal.
I know since I called Sony yesterday to ask since mine suddenly stopped reading any kind of disks..
Don't know If I should send it or buy a new one. But $399 is a ton considering I already purchased mine 13 months ago.Comment

Re: Repairing a PS3?
***I wrote the following on SR Forums, maybe it can be helpful with someone that has the same problems with their PS3***
I decided to give another call to Sony to express how disappointed I was that Sony hasn't acknowledge that there are obvious problems with PS3 BR drives and that it wasn't fair of them trying to charge me $150 when there are hundreds (maybe thousands) with the same issue. The representative was very receptive to what I had to say but he told me that he couldn't do anything except to transfer me to a supervisor. After 5 minutes holding the guy comes back and tells me that the supervisor has agreed to offer me in warranty service free of charge.
I of course thanked him and explained to him that I wasn't trying to be a weasel about it, I had a legitimate concern and the representative agreed.
Not bad, uh?
The thing is, it OBVIOUS that a ton of PS3 BR drives are starting to crap all over, when is Sony going to take the same stance Microsoft did?Comment
