I decided to change things up a little bit. I am going to use the end of 1996 rosters and seed the teams 1 thru 28 by their winning percentage for the 1996 baseball season, then put all the teams into a double elimination tournament format. I was considering breaking it down into 4 brackets, with each bracket having 7 teams. But i figured why not just put them all into a full 28 team tournament. I will be controlling both teams for each game. There will be no set pitching rotations that I will use, and for every game I will post starting lineups and a recap with some highlights of each game. I started an idea like this a while back, hopefully I will have better luck with this one. Please feel free to comment as much as you want, I always appreciate feedback. Hope you guys enjoy

#17 Florida @ (16) Milwaukee
Starting Pitchers: Kevin Brown vs. Ben McDonald
This first game of the tournament was a pitching duel through the first 5 innings. Finally in the 6th, the Marlins started the scoring thanks to a double by Devon White and a triple by Luis Castillo to take a 1-0 lead. The Brewers would tie it in the 7th, then take a 2-1 lead in the 8th, thanks to a single by Fernando Vina. Angel Miranda went out to close the game, but gave up 2 singles and a walk with 1 out. That brought in Mike Fetters, who promptly walked in the tying run. The game stayed tied at 2 until the bottom of the 12th, when Marlins pitcher Jay Powell lost his control, walking 2 and then loading the bases on an error with nobody out. With the infield and outfield playing in, Mike Matheny drove one over the center fielders head, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 win.
Final score: 3-2 MilwaukeeComment

#25 California @ #8 Montreal
Starting Pitchers: Chuck Finley vs. Pedro Martinez
Tim Salmon got the Angels off to a quick start with a solo HR in the top of the 1st, and then Henry Rodriguez answered for Montreal in the bottom of the 2nd with a solo shot, tying the game at 1. In the 3rd, Salmon put another one over the fence for a 2-1 California lead. In the bottom half, Pedro helped his cause with a leadoff double then Devon White singled him in to tie it at 2. That was just the start, as Montreal ended up scoring 10 in the inning, chasing Finley after 2 2/3. After the damage was done it was 11-2 Montreal. They ended up adding 6 in the 8th, sandwiched by Salmon's 3rd solo shot of the day. The final score was 17-3. One other note in the 8th, Shane Andrews was hit in the head with a pitch and he's out for the tournament.Comment

Re: baseball pro: a 1996 double elimination tournament
is there anybody that's really interested in reading this? I like doing this and will continue to do it, as I have a lot of fun with the baseball pro 96 game. Still one of the best computer baseball games I've ever played. Unfortunately the only thing I can do is exhibition games, which is why I thought that this would be a cool idea. So do I have any readers out there? Or am I wasting my time? lolComment

#24 New York (N) @ #9 Baltimore
Starting Pitchers: Bobby Jones vs. Mike Mussina
This one got jumpstarted in the bottom of the 1st as the Orioles batted around and scored 6 runs on 5 hits, the big blow a 3 run HR by Eddie Murray. They scored 2 more in the 2nd, chasing Jones after he fell behind 8-0. Dave Mlicki came in to start the 3rd and had a superb relief job, helping the Mets slowly get back into it as they scored 4 in the 4th, and also knocked out Orioles catcher Chris Hoiles with a 100% injury. In the 6th, Terry Mathews relieved Mussina with a 9-6 lead, and promptly gave up 2 hits and 2 walks to make it a 9-7 game, then got a little help from the defense with 1 out. Todd Hundley, with the bases loaded, hit a deep fly ball that was caught by Brady Anderson at the fence. Lance Johnson tried to go from 2nd to third and was thrown out, but the runner from 3rd scored to make it a 9-8 game. Mlicki left in the bottom of the 7th after 4 and 2/3 innings which he gave up just 2 runs, 1 earned. Baltimore made it 10-8 in the 7th, and in the top of the, 8th, Johnson made up for his baserunning error by hitting a solo shot to make it 10-9. The Orioles had a runner on third with 1 out, but couldn't get the insurance run in, then Armando Benitez came on for the save in the 9th. With runners on 1st and 3rd and 2 outs, he got an easy ground ball to first, giving the Orioles a 10-9 victory after they almost choked off a 9-0 lead
Final score: 10-9 BaltimoreComment

Re: baseball pro: a 1996 double elimination tournament
How is everybody enjoying this so far? I'm having fun with it, although I'm only 3 games in with a lot more to go. Is there anything you guys would like to see me change? More stats, more detail? I try to jot down some game notes on paper for every game so I can make a game report. If you think I'm leaving anything out, let me know.Comment

bk, I'm using an oldie but a goodie. I'm using baseball pro 1996, an old, old, Sierra game. Still one of my favorite computer graphics baseball games of all time. Back in the days before I got windows XP, I used to be able to play careers, and I always kicked butt with the Atlanta BravesComment

#28 Detroit @ #5 Texas
Starting Pitchers: Omar Olivares vs. John Burkett
In the top of the 2nd, Tony Clark laced a double down the line and then Travis Fryman singled him in to take a 1-0 Detroit lead. Dean Palmer tied things up at 1 with a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning, then Mark McLemore singled in Mickey Tettleton to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. Clark struck again in the 3rd, with an RBI double to tie it at 2. That was followed by a Ruben Sierra RBI single to make it 3-2 Detroit. John Burkett, because of a high pitch count early in the game, left after 3 2/3, and Darren Oliver came in. Both teams remained off the board until the bottom of the 7th, when Darryl Hamilton stroked an RBI double to tie it at 3. And in the bottom of the 8th, Palmer struck again with another solo shot to put the Rangers ahead 4-3 going into the 9th. Then things fell apart, as the Tigers struck for 6 runs in the 9th, sparked by a Bob Higginson grand slam. Texas went 1,2,3 in the bottom half, and the Tigers pulled the first major upset of the tournament.
Final Score: 8-4 DetroitComment

#21 Kansas City @ #12 Boston
Starting Pitchers: Kevin Appier vs. Roger Clemens
This was a pitching duel through the first 5, with the only threat being in the bottom of the 4th. The Red Sox had first and second, nobody out, and Appier got 2 K's and a fly ball to get out of it. KC opened the scoring in the top of the 6th with a Keith Lockhart double and Johnny Damon single to take a 1-0 lead. That didn't last long, as Appier tired in the 6th, loaded the bases with nobody out, then walked in a run and was replaced by Brian Bevil. He got a pop up, then Tim Naehring hit a deep ground ball to short to drive in a run. The big blow came from Mike Stanley who hit a 3 run jack to make it 5-1. In the bottom of the 8th, Stanley lit the skies up again with a 2 run shot, making the score 8-2. Behind this and a great 7 inning, 1 run effort from Clemens, the Red Sox advance with an 8-4 victory.
Final Score: 8-4 BostonComment
