The Right Combination of ratings and control

fellow OSers, looking for collective advice here...

now i am not asking about what is better assisted, semi, or manual. we all have different skill levels on 'the sticks.' and the opinions about what makes the best, most fluid fifa experience can quickly turn

i want to get everyone's opinion on what the best combination for both RATINGS and CONTROL. basically making both gamer skill and player ratings matter.

it seems that for manual, the ratings matter less... opinions?

I had the same kind of questions and thought that playing with manual sort of lowered the importance of ratings. I found that for me it's the complete opposite.

After playing hundreds of games with both all manual, semi and assisted I can say that, for me, manual is the most realistic and actually the one where ratings have the most importance. With all manual, it is extremely difficult to play a fast passing game with less skilled players and the top finishers really stand out.

With auto I feel that everybody is a good finisher and it's too easy too play a passing game like Barca or Arsenal no matter which players you use.

Assisted anything makes players all seem the same. Manual controls are the way to go if you want to see a noticable difference in passing and shooting skills.

I saying that the moment I shift to anything other than manual controls, it feels like I can make perfect passes and crosses with any player. Where I do see a bit of difference is with shooting. The better shooters obviously have better shot control and power.

But that difference is just as noticable on manual. And on manual, the difference in players' ability to pass and cross is significant. I hear what you're trying determine with the controls. And maybe I'm just jaded because I haven't played with anything except manual for two years now. But for me, the moment I even try and switch to semi-anything, the auto-control factor makes it feel like the AI is controlling the outcome, not me. And I can't go back to playing soccer games like that anymore, not after playing FIFA 08 and 09.

i hear you... i guess i need to get better with manual to really be able to pull off he moves you are talking about.

i do see what you are saying with through balls. besides some curving, the though ball when asisted makes everyone the same. through balls with manual though are impossible... a big problem is i do not play with the BAP mode... i bet that helps worlds with manual controls.

A good question here southernbelle, and one that I have asked myself before as well. In fact, I had resisted the urge to play in manual mode because if the mode was truly "manual" then the player ratings wouldn't matter at all!

I've been playing a little manual mode lately and have been pleased with the results but I can't conclusively say whether or not the player ratings make a difference... one thing I CAN say conclusively is that I completely suck at manual shooting - I had something like 10 shots 0 on target my last game

yeah i figured that the ratings should matter more if its assisted... but i may not be thinking about it right. where as, if you have real skill on the sticks, you can really make a player that much better... where as if you poor stick skills (me), you are subject to player ratings... its a wierd one... though i agree with baa7 that there does not seem to be much differentiation btwn players. CSEC doesnt seem to make THAT mich better of long passes (he is high 90s) than say Clichy who is low 80s...
