What's the best PS3-era version of the game?

Thinking of skipping NHL15 due to Be a GM being 'stripped back', so was considering picking up a previous version. I think '12 was the version that persistently froze and I wasn't keen on the beachball in '14, but don't really remember much about the others. Any thoughts on which was best from a gameplay/ Be a GM P-O-V?

11 was my favorite, but it was hard to play with the old skating engine after playing so much 13 and 14. 11 was the most balanced for me and Be-A-Gm didn't have any huge differences between 11 and 14.

What are they stripping out of the PS3 version? I thought it was going to be almost the same with different announcers.

The PS3 version should be a full featured reskin of NHL 14

I liked 09, 11 and 13/14 the best last gen, with 14 ultimately being the definitive version IMO. Depends what you're looking for, really. If updated teams and rosters and/or online play are important, then as mentioned I can only assume that 15 will be 14 reskinned. Otherwise you'd be safe with almost any other version (12 rubbed me the wrong way for whatever reason, and I wasn't as into 10 either), as it's felt like subtle refinements rather than big updates for a few years now.

You could also pick up one of the older 2k games if you're looking for something different and don't care about it being out of date. I've still got 2k8 and 2k10 on the shelf and will pop them in from time to time just for a different experience.

I am a 360 guy, but same era. I guess some of what makes a game "fun" is subjective, but I believe the series peaked with NHL 10.

11 and 13 hands down for me. It was hard to go back to 11 after 13 implemented the true skate engine.

I am holding out on NHL 15 for the PS4 and in a wait and see mode. With Madden 15, The Show 14 and 2K15 taking up a lot of sports gaming time for me I can wait for a little while and pick this up much cheaper later down the road.

I do like hockey and love video game hockey. I am not a hard core hockey fan though. From what I have seen 15 looks like it will be a great game...but I want to make sure it's not a typical first release on a new console (meaning lot's and lot's of bugs).

I have to go NHL 11 but I did like the skating changes from NHL 13.

13 is the best. I'm getting the ps4s 15 though bc I can't go back to last gen.

Re: What's the best PS3-era version of the game?

I was recently in the same position. Bored of 14 and with little faith that 15 would be any different, I searched here and the EA forum for an alternative.

In all the threads I read, there was one consistent choice - NHL 11.

I found a very nice copy on a well known auction site for just over 5 GBP.

                    I love it.

Remember there is no on-line play, no new rosters or tuners though there was a patch.

Set up your favourite sliders, plug in Cycloniac's sound files and enjoy the gameplay.

                    You could even consider:

                    http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-ea-style.html

I have tried both goalie and skater edits and think it improves gameplay.

I can thoroughly recommend NHL 11and can just about guarantee you will get more fun for your money than any other game.

Consider 2k8 or 2k10 also for a somewhat different experience.

                      11. No PS3 roster updates though as far as I know. They did have a few in 12.

Someone mentioned 2k8 and 2k10. In another thread in the hockey section you can find a brand new roster updated as of today with another on the way fairly soon. The game is just a few bucks now and worth a look.

I'm probably an outcast for saying this but... easily 13 for me. And they had Giroux on the cover.
