ESPN 25th Anniversary Mode...why do player names show up when you load some rosters

Curious as to why player names show up when you load some season rosters such as Dophin's 1988 roster or JSOU's 2007, but player names don't show up when you load other rosters.

I'm not understanding just what players are you referencing to?

Normally when you play ESPN 25th Anniversary Mode the players have generic names on their jerseys such as "Quarterback", "Half Back", "Receiver", etc based on their position. A couple of years ago I loaded up JSOU's 2007-08 roster and played a few quick games and then decided to play the 25th Anniversary mode "Final Comeback" game between the Redskins and the Cowboys. To my surprise I saw Romo, T.O., and Marion Barber in the line up. But you don't see real players names in the Anniversary mode when you have most other season rosters loaded up. I think the only roster I've seen real players names show up in the Anniversary mode was Dophin's 1988 season roster where I saw Jerry Rice, Montana, and Rathman in "The Catch" game. I just wondered if anyone else had seen this, and if so, if they knew how to make real names show up in the Anniversary mode.

Sounds interesting but not that odd, first off I can't speak for the other guys rosters you've used with ANNIVERSARY mode but what I think happens is that when you load an edited roster you get the edited names associated with that particular team.

From what I've experienced the names of players appear from the roster currently loaded.

To avoid seeing player names from any roster loaded you'd have to go to ROSTERMANGER and then RESETROSTER this will give you the players name via position as in Quarterback, Half Back, ect ect.

Even loading the ESPN roster up date 01 07 2005 will give you names so basically you'd have to play a true ANNIVERSARY game on a default game meaning no edited or updated rosters.

Whatever year roster you're using will reflect in that Mode so if it was an 1988 roster loaded you're gonna see that years player make up.

I hope that helps you out when playing that mode.

Re: ESPN 25th Anniversary Mode...why do player names show up when you load some roste

My personal goal is (or was) to get edited players with their real names from the 1981-82 season roster that I created to show up in ESPN 25th Anniversay Mode's "Longest Playoff Game Ever" (Chargers vs Dolphins) and "The Catch" game (Cowboys vs 49ers) so I can relive two of the greatest playoff games in NFL history. Unfortunately, with this roster and most of the historic rosters only the generic names show up. One thing I did noticed is for the few season rosters where edited players and their actual names appear in the Anniversary mode (Dophin's 1988, 1989, Visual Concept 2005, and JSOU's 2007), if you go to "Historic Teams" in the game and try to load teams in the historic slots no teams appear at all. Well, I appreciate your response and you looking into the matter. I'm not sure if it drew much interest from others.

Well I hope you're successful in you're attempt to get those names to show up but from I what recall most historic rosters are created via a different process via the NFL HISTORY PROGRAM found at the 2k site explaining in detail just how the process works and whats needed to get them done working conjunction with the Finn editor.

Perhaps there is something in the reading that could prove to be of some useful knowledge to help you out.
