VC needs to add another camera view

I can't remember what football game it was and its possible it may have been even Madden but I would like VC to add a defensive 3rd person camera view. I know from my days of playing football its more natural to look toward the offense instead of from behind them like in videogames. So it was nice to get that angle in ESPN NFL Football's First Person Football. People have been wanting a behind the pitcher camera in Sega's baseball franchise and I thought it was time they added it to their football franchise. Of course it would only be playable in one player and online games.

This would make playing defense more natural and make playing as the linebacker and the defensive line more realistic. I know when I'm in control of my LBs I'm usually running into the blocking because I'm looking at the runner (from behind) and not the blocking but if we had a 3rd person defensive view we'd pay more attention to the blockers in front of the runner making it more realistic.

Would you play ESPN NFL 200? with a 3rd person defensive camera angle?

never really thought of that before...but I like the idea! I hated 1st person football on offense...but defense it was great reading guards from the MLB position!

It would take some getting used to, but I think I would love it eventually.

          ... And system linked games.

I'm waiting for developers to utilize the system link. Someone sent that in as an idea. That way we could have tournaments set up.

The idea (from "wilk") also had it so in system linked tourneys, you'd have ESPN gamebreak updates from other human controlled games going on in the tourney with real highlights. Don't know how they'd do it... But it'd be sweet.

The only problem with your defensive view is that it would have to show the screen all the way back to the endzone. Otherwise you'd get beat deep because you couldn't see where the receivers were running.

Re: VC needs to add another camera view

Maybe.....maybe not. If you didn't take control of the DB it should be still controlled by the CPU. Plus if you take control of the DB the camera would be on him and the receiver. Besides you don't have view of the endzone in real life unless you are lookin that way anyway. You would stil have the X on the ground to tell you where the ball will be going so you can either go for a pick or break it up.

I loved First Person Football and my only gripe was there wasn't a player lock feature and I got tired of having to cycle through the players to get back to the player I wanted to use all the time. In 3rd person it would take you back to the last player you had control over before the snap. In first person football it didn't. VC fixes that and I'm playing FPF a majority of the time.

I agree 110% Sportsgeist. I think looking up at the offense (from a third person perspective) would be much more natural on offense. Last year, when playing FP mode, if you zoomed out while cycling through your defensive guys, it gave you a great zoomed out perspective with the defense at the bottom of the field, looking "up" at the offense. It was pretty much perfect, but you couldn't actually play from that view. Only cycle through your Defense. Once the play started, you zoomed back into the guy you were controlling.

One of the things that has turned me off from Madden the past couple of years is how stale the traditional behind the Offense cam has become..especially when playing on defense. It is much more natural on defense to be looking up at the offense, IMO. I also loved FPF last year, and having to cycle through my defense each play didn't kill it for me, fortunately. I do agree that VC should give us a player lock this year though. Would make FPF even better. If they do that, I may play nothing but FPF this year..especially with the new QB progression reads they added. Should be great.

Personally I'd like them to add an action cam similar to ESPN MLB. Maybe this is what you mean so it'd be a variation of first person mode but with a better view of what's going on around you. Otherwise an entire view similar to the current one but from the defense isn't that great IMO. The good thing about it being behind the O is that you know nothing is behind the QB. if you had to have the camera behind the last defender in the normal 3rd person view there's no way you could see what's going on at the LOS.
