Duke isn't exactly a perennial ACC powerhouse and Clemson was eager at a chance to get another ACC win. Maybe they should've been paying more attention to the the Blue Devils who picked off Kelly on the very first Clemson possession. Duke was on the brink of punching in a score but Ben Boulware made a big sideline tackle and forced a 19yd fg. Clemson needed to get back on track and Germone Hopper's return gave Clemson excellent field position on their own 48. Thomas Dye punched in the 7 yard TD to put Clemson on the board. After a Duke punt the Tigers looked to add to their lead and managed to cross the 50. The Blue Devils played some real tight coverage though and Kelly missed a wide open Hopper on 3rd down. Clemson though still managed to get the 41 yard fg off before the end of the first quarter 10-3.
Duke QB Thomas Sirk got into a rhythm the next drive and moved the chains on three different third downs. He powered in a 2 yard TD to tie the game up for the Blue Devils. Clemson failed to score seven on their next drive after Martavis Bryant dropped the easy endzone catch and kicked another short FG. MLB Kellen Jones forced Duke into a FG but unfortunately Kelly threw an INT on the following drive adding on to his poor first half. Duke had gained momentum after the turnover but Shaq "Diesel" Lawson ran over the offensive tackle on consecutive plays for sacks and gave the ball right back to Clemson offense. For some reason or another though Kelly decided it would be a good idea to launch a deep pass down the middle to Hopper and was picked off to end the half.
Duke had the ball to start the half but they didn't have it for long as Clemson's tight coverage forced a 4th and 8. The Blue Devils would fake the punt but DB Ronald Geohaghan came up and made the stellar tackle. With the excellent field position the Tigers rushed the ball down the field with Dye. Hopper would cash in on some bad coverage and catch the 2 yard score. Duke looked they were losing momentum at that point until Thomas Sirks scored a pair of TDs through the air and on the ground. With that the Blue Devils had taken a 27-20 lead over Clemson. Clemson would look towards their big play guy Hopper who would return the kick return 100 yards for the tying score to end the third.
The fourth quarter was all Clemson. It started with the fine play of Shaq Lawson and the defense. Lawson and the defense had been having troubles getting to the quarterback so far this season. Today was a step in the right direction for the front seven. Dye finally started to wear down the defense in the fourth and rushed two scores. The final nail in the coffin was the strike Kelly threw to Bryant to cap off the 48-27 blowout win. Duke managed to keep with them for a little bit but Clemson's 10 sacks proved to be too much. Lawson, Dye and the Tigers take on the #11 Yellowjackets next week.

#2 Maryland faced a tough challenge this week traveling to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. Iowa had just last week picked up their first loss of the season and was looking to burst the Terrapins bubble. Maryland trailed 13-3 but scored two TDs in the fourth and took the 17-13 lead. Iowa however found themselves with the ball last and Michael Malloy ran in a 4 yard score with 2 seconds remaining for the major home win.
Two unbeaten Pac-12 teams with a lot to prove as UCLA hosted Washington. The Huskies Defense showed up tonight and not only put up a defensive TD but also kept the Bruins to under 250 yards of offense. On a team filled with playmakers especially on the defensive side of the ball LE Connor Cree was the man who dictated the flow game and won the game for the team.
The #10 Fighting Irish opened their first home game of the season against Iowa State. The contest also counted as their first home game as a member of the newly expanded Big 12. The two teams went back and forth but thanks to Cyclones WR Tad Ecby who had over 100 yards receiving and two scores Iowa St managed to turn the tides. A clutch field goal late in the game secured their 34-31 victory over Notre Dame.
Two big headlines in the SEC this week. The first was the Top 10 matchup between 37 Ole Miss and #9 Alabama. The Rebels just had too much explosiveness for the Crimson Tide and hand another loss to a team that had title aspirations coming into the year. The second big news was the fall of Florida who lost in OT to Kentucky!
The biggest ACC game thus far this year as Georgia Tech heads to Death Valley to take on Clemson. The triple option loving Yellowjackets will have the hands full with the best rushing defense in the country. QB Vad Lee and HB Dennis Andrew are two very talented Yellowjackets athletes with a knack for for making guys miss in the open field. A player to keep an eye on for Clemson will be DE Shaq Lawson who is fresh off a 5 Sack performance against Duke. Lawson will play a big part in keeping unbeaten Georgia Tech off the scoreboard.

Clemson and Georgia Tech had the pleasure of being this week’s Game of the Week. Two of the ACC’s finest were set to duel in Death Valley and TE Stanton Seckinger got the Tigers off on the right foot. Seckinger caught 3 balls on the first drive setting them up in the redzone for Dye’s 14 yard score. Vad Lee and Tech’s dreaded triple option attack got them down to their own 12 but MLB Kellen Jones stepped up and forced a field goal. Kelly and Seckinger hooked up yet again on the next drive for another Clemson TD and held a 14-3 lead.
Yellowjacket QB Vad Lee had been shaken up on their last drive and in came backup QB Justin Thomas. They were forced to punt and Kelly threw yet another TD this time to rarely used FB Matt Franklin. Georgia Tech was in danger of getting blown out before it even got to halftime but a mental lapse by the defense led to a 43 yard option run by Justin Thomas. It seemed that the Yellowjackets weren’t going to just lie down for the Tigers. Unfortunately they could do nothing to stop another Kelly scoring drive right before the half giving Clemson a commanding 28-10.
In the third quarter Tiger defensive ends Ogundeko and Lawson were nightmares off the edge and bothered the option game. The Yellowjackets were held scoreless in the quarter and couldn’t recover after that. Clemson gave up a couple big TDs runs late in the fourth but that wasn’t anywhere near enough to bring them back . Kelly and Dye each scored a rushing TD as well and Clemson picked up the convincing 42-24 win. Georgia Tech ended up picking up their first loss of the year as well. Clemson looks ahead to the 2-3 Louisville Cardinals.
