Re: Never Daunted: An Indiana Hoosiers Dynasty (NCAA 14)
Mills takes Oklahoma State job, Jones in at DC Bloomington- In what has become a yearly tradition, the Hoosiers will have a new defensive coordinator in 2021. Former Indiana DC Jeff Mills has accepted the head coaching job at Oklahoma State after just one season in Bloomington. Mills is the third straight IU defensive coordinator to leave after one year at Indiana. Indiana had the top defense in the nation under Mills in 2020. "We're sad to see him go, but I think he's going to be a really good fit at OSU," said coach Pate. "We wish him all the best." Indiana didn't look far for Mills' replacement, picking up former Maryland head coach Jason Jones to head the Hoosier defense. Jones was fired after the Terps went 4-8 in 2020. "Obviously being from another Big Ten school, he knows the competition we're up against," said Pate. "That's something we value a lot, so having someone who knows the conference is a big asset." Indiana is no stranger to picking up coaches from the Big Ten, hiring John Butler from Penn State to the defensive coordinator position two years ago. Mills, who was the defensive coordinator at South Carolina before joining the Hoosiers, joins several former IU coaches in the head coaching ranks. John Butler is currently the head coach at Florida, Doug Mallory is at Pittsburgh, and Paul Chryst is the head man at Nebraska after a successful stint at South Alabama. Meanwhile, coach Pate has signed a 7-year contract extension with Indiana to remain the head coach of the Hoosiers through at least 2027. |

Re: Never Daunted: An Indiana Hoosiers Dynasty (NCAA 14)
Record number of Hoosiers sign pro deals on draft day Los Angeles, CA- After having no players drafted a year ago, five Hoosiers heard their names called at the 2021 NFL Draft in Los Angeles. Receiver Scott Hicks, who had considered entering the Draft last year before deciding to return for his senior season, was the first Hoosier taken, going 44th overall in the second round to the Arizona Cardinals. Quarterback Leonard Bell, despite a few rocky patches during his senior year, was the next Hoosier called, going to the Miami Dolphins in the third round, the 89th overall pick. 2019 Heisman-winner and Indiana's all-time leading rusher Michael Keenan was the third IU player to be selected, going in the 5th round, 145th overall, to the Denver Broncos. Safety Brent Young will stay close to his alma mater, as he was taken in the sixth round by the Indianapolis Colts, 197th overall. The sixth round also saw tackle Ty Palmer selected, going 205th overall to the Houston Texans. Joining their fellow Hoosiers in the pro ranks are several other former Hoosiers, who signed undrafted free agent deals. Left end Brandon Thomas signed with the Baltimore Ravens, kicker and Guy Award-winner Marty Hampton signed with the Los Angeles Rams, center Charles McMahan signed with the Chicago Bears, receiver Donald Dickens signed with the New Orleans Saints, and All-American tackle Brian Jackson will be heading north, signing a deal with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. A total of ten Hoosiers from the 2020 national runner-up, all seniors, will be taking their talents to the next level. Indiana's coach Pate said of the group, "We aren't surprised at all. This team had a ton of talent, so to see these guys get to continue their football careers at the highest level, I think it's very well deserved. I'm always proud of our players, and this is definitely no exception." Players drafted WR Scott Hicks, 2nd round, 44th overall, Arizona Cardinals QB Leonard Bell, 3rd round, 89th overall, Miami Dolphins HB Michael Keenan, 5th round, 145th overall, Denver Broncos FS Brent Young, 6th round, 197th overall, Indianapolis Colts RT Ty Palmer, 6th round, 205th overall, Houston Texans Free agent signings LE Brandon Thomas, Baltimore Ravens K Marty Hampton, Los Angeles Rams C Charles McMahan, Chicago Bears WR Donald Dickens, New Orleans Saints DT Brian Jackson, Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL) |
