Year 1 (2011), Game 3, Eastern Michigan at #24 Michigan

Michigan HB Michael Shaw was having a fantastic performance (5 att, 111 yds, 2 TDs) before breaking his collarbone.

Defend the House: Michigan Easily Downs Eastern Michigan 34-10

Michigan HB Michael Shaw breaks collarbone, will miss season | Gardner gets start in place of injured Robinson, Robinson to return next week | EMU TE Hoskins leads stagnant offense

AP Ann Arbor – Despite being without Heisman hopeful QB Denard Robinson, the Michigan Wolverines had no problem easily dispatching their in-state foes, the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 34-10. Senior HB Michael Shaw scored twice in the first quarter before suffering a broken collarbone, that will most likely end his season. Shaw has already said he still plans to enter the NFL Draft this coming April. For Eastern Michigan, their usually dynamic running game was completely stifled by the Wolverine front seven. The senior duo of HB Dominique Sherrer and HB Corey Welch combined for a measly 43 yards on the ground.

Junior tight end Garrett Hoskins had his best game of the season with 8 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Eastern Michigan redshirt freshman QB Tyler Benz made his first collegiate start. He had an up and down game, completing fifty percent of his passes while throwing a touchdown and two interceptions. For Michigan, sophomore QB Devin Gardner saw his first action of the season, throwing for 262 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Robinson is expected to return from his injury and start in week four. He was held out of the Eastern Michigan game strictly as a precaution.

Eastern Michigan will get one of their key offensive weapons back next week as WR Kinsman Thomas returns from a strained back injury, he suffered in week one.

"We aren't there yet as a team and a program, but I look forward to the days when we can come into the Big House and keep pace with a storied program such as Michigan. We are not as far off as many think." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton

Eastern Michigan (2-1) will stay on the road next week as they play their last non-conference game of the season. They will head to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-2). This will mark the first time these two schools have met on the football field. The game will be nationally broadcast and kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 pm EST.

Re: Year 1 (2011), Game 3, Eastern Michigan at #24 Michigan

Looking good as always Cheese. Sadly I skipped NCAA '12. '11 was my personal favorite.

Great start to the year; I can't hold that Michigan loss against you. Ya'll were just too overmatched. Your boy Welch has sure cooled down after the fast start. 6 attempts for 7 yards? Ouch.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame may be more of the same.

On a side note, I may have to re-evaluate our friendship....

Deegeezy, my good friend (despite our NFC South differences...) thank you for checking in and the kind words. NCAA '11 and '12 are definitely hands down my favorite. If I ever got fired in '12 and had to re-think a franchise project I would probably return to '11. Those two games have always held a special place in my heart.

I am very pleased with our start to the season, I was a little worried with the schedule that we would be 0-4 heading into conference play, but even if we are 2-2 I would be quite happy with that.

We just aren't there as a team to compete with the Michigan and Notre Dame talent level. We get just manhandled in the trenches (as you can see from the disappearance of our run game) and speed wise we get toasted. Basically we just don't have the strength and speed to keep up with those teams. I find that to be incredibly realistic though to the struggles I would expect a program like Eastern Michigan to have so in that regard I love it. Someday we will have the talent to compete like that, fingers crossed I haven't been fired before that though haha.

Hahah yeah what can I say I love those poor Falcons, although these days we aren't a threat to most teams. Being a Virginia Tech alum (and a current vet student there....if you ever need questions answered on your dog ha...) I started following the Falcons when Vick was there and stayed with them ever since. I also follow the Bills (born in Buffalo), so needless to say the NFL season is typically a painful one for me. Hopefully our friendship can endure this difference haha. All the best man. Hope you continue to check in and follow along!

Awesome Around the Nation report cheese, love the mix of graphics and data plus the scroll bar for the top 25 works nicely so it doesn't take up too much room.

Always fun trying to turn around a school without much football tradition.

Thanks man! I really appreciate the kind words and you checking in. I have bounced around a few different Around the Nation report formats and this is by far my favorite layout and will definitely be the one I stick with. I am not a photoshop wizard like many so I tend to live in the land of HTML coding.

Definitely a major undertaking ahead for me with these Eagles but like you said it is so much fun. It will be a long road ahead of us but I am really enjoying it thus far. Thanks again for checking in and I hope you continue to follow along and enjoy!

Year 1 (2011), Game 4, Eastern Michigan at Notre Dame

Notre Dame HB Cierre Wood powers into the endzone in the first quarter / QB Dayne Crist hooks up with WR Theo Riddick for a long score.

Taking Care of Business: Notre Dame Dispatches Eastern Michigan 26-10

Notre Dame HB Cierre Wood paces offense with 118 yds, 1 TD | Benz has another shaky performance throws 2 INT in hostile environment | Eastern Michigan prepares for conference opener against Akron next week

AP South Bend – Notre Dame took care of business to pick up their second win of the season, as they downed Eastern Michigan 26-10. The game marked the first meeting between the two schools on the football and was expected to be a blow out. The Eastern Michigan defense played tough and kept the game competitive for most of the contest. Notre Dame junior HB Cierre Wood lead the Fighting Irish on offense, running for 118 yards and a score on the day. Senior signal caller, QB Dayne Crist, had an efficient day under center throwing for 165 yards a score. For Eastern Michigan the ground game woes continued as the team failed to establish a consistent ground game for the second week in a row.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Tyler Benz has struggled since taking over for the injured Alex Gillett. Through three games, Benz has thrown 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Eastern Michigan redshirt freshman QB Tyler Benz scored the team's only touchdown on a four yard scramble in the second quarter. Benz had another rough outing as he threw two interceptions in the hostile environment. Benz has struggled since taking over for injured starting QB Alex Gillett, who's season ended abruptly in week two with a broken collarbone.

Eastern Michigan was thrilled to get the services of junior WR Kinsman Thomas back as he returned from a week one injury. Thomas had a huge day in the loss, hauling in eleven passes for 134 yards. He will continue to be a centerpiece of the Eagles' offense.

"I know it is a loss, but I think our defense deserves credit for a heck of a game. They kept us in it against one of the top teams in the nation in talent level." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton

Eastern Michigan (2-2) will head back home next week as they open conference play against the Akron Zips (1-3). The Zips won their first game of the season last week in a 31-7 victory over Howard. Akron has won the past three matchups against their conference foes. They are lead by offensive captain junior QB Patrick Nicely. Kickoff is scheduled for this upcoming Saturday at 3:30 pm EST.
