Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
Last year there were virtually zero errors committed by the outfield and year after year almost every outfielder on my team would win the gold glove so my question is will there be more errors in the outfield being that they tweaked fielding to use the players fielding rating more this year. I know it's been mentioned that there will be more errors but from what I read it was only for manual fielding. Also curious for those who play with auto fielding if you've experienced a bobbled ball or any sort of error by outfielders.Last edited by JayD; 02-25-2011, 03:29 PM.Tags: None -

I am asking a serious question here, not trying to knock you or nothing because I know alot of people do this, but why continuing using auto-fielding?
I think the game responds well enough when user controlled for you to have the balance of good plays and errors that you seem to be looking for. -

This question was just answered by Ramone in the Demo Q and A Thread, pg. 43.
Eli, I use Auto Field too. Until someone confirms that it's easier this year for an outfielder to actually dive and catch a ball, why would I want that disadvantage against the CPU? I want a 'sim' experience, where the user vs CPU games are an even match.
A question for you since I haven't tried it...
How's diving in the outfield this year? If it's improved, I may give it a go.Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
Diving seems to be the same in all honesty, but I feel that I was able to get good at it with practice. My diving skills when catching balls in the OF and hot shots down the 1B/3B have improved since I started playing this game in 2009.This question was just answered by Ramone in the Demo Q and A Thread, pg. 43.

It is something that definitely takes some practice, but I don't feel it is unbarable. I am sim-player also, but I think manual fielding gives a good representation of that.Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
I recall a few errors of the going thru the legs on base hits on auto fielding last year, but if it makes you feel better,in my 2nd game in the demo the other night,as SF, my right fielder chased down a fly ball in the corner at the foul pole that bounced off his glove and over the short section of fence for a homer. Vasgersian even commented "what in the Jose Canseco is going on here." Unless you play out all 162,your probably not going to see a whole lot of outfield errors,as you probably would see in the infield.Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
Thanks for the reply.
I just really wish they had implemented a non-RTTS fielding practice mode where I could actually get my reflexes down.
Now, with how difficult analog hitting is, I just can't see myself trying to tackle fielding on top of it...
For now, any way. If you feel like posting some tips, I'm all ears.Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
Im an "auto fielding" guy since MLB 10 and love it. In 11 I want to use it as well since im going with Analog fielding and don't want to have to worry about getting to the ball. I feel i will have a hard enough time throwing the ball without making mistakes. This question was just answered by Ramone in the Demo Q and A Thread, pg. 43.

Plus, I realized I saw animations last year with "auto field" manual throwing that I would probably never have seen had I been controlling the fielder myself.PSN: ckarlic

Now, with the tiered animations, I'm sort if even more excited to leave it on Auto.
Besides, the game is designed to enable the User to be able to do everything the CPU can do...
So it's not like I/we have an unfair advantage over the CPU or anything. If anything, it allows us to pitch on the proper difficulty based on our skills, without having to drop it back due to our fielding miscues.Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
I have never really understood this argument. One could just as easily state that they use auto pitching and auto fielding to have a true "sim" experience. But at the end of the day, we need to remember that it is a game, and the point of a game is to play the game. They day I have to resort to auto anything on a game is the day I hang up my controller. This question was just answered by Ramone in the Demo Q and A Thread, pg. 43.

Right...I actually agree with you, which is why I don't use MOM.I have never really understood this argument. But, to be fair, if my fielding ability is inflating my pitcher's hit allowed totals...thus inflating my pitch count and ERA...and to add, I don't have a mode to practice fielding in...unlike hitting and pitching...
Then how could my post not make sense to you? That is, unless I under stated my sucky-ness in the field.
Seriously, I'm HORRIBLE! And at that point, trying to learn in game...which I may only have a few chances to actually dive, why not just let the CPU take over?Comment

Re: Outfielder Errors On Auto Fielding?
Now since the retail version is out has anyone seen any errors by the outfielder other than throwing errors? Last year you saw virtually zero errors by the outfield when on auto fielding. This year attributes play more of a role so I am hoping that I'll seem errors by the cpu and user. I have seen one throwing error and also a miss judged ball by the outfielder that actually wasn't scored an error.Comment

You will see more errors in the outfield this year auto-fielding or not."Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"Comment
