1999 UCONN had Duke. 2001 Duke had to beat UMD and Arizona. The 2002 UMD team had to beat Duke. 2003 Syracuse had to beat Kansas. 2004 UCONN had to beat Duke. 2005 UNC had to beat Illinois.

What great, epic match up did Florida face?
They did beat Ohio State twice this year and they had to go through UCLA and OSU in the final four...

It's hard to argue against the team that won back to back titles, they're clearly the #1 team in my mind. They had the bullseye on them all year and still delivered. As good as I think the 2005 UNC team was, I can't put them ahead of Florida, despite beating a better team in the championship game.

And neither of those were teams for the ages. This year just wasn't a great year. I don't think anyone besides Florida fans are going to say otherwise.

Your logic goes both ways. Just because Florida won doesn't mean it was a great year for basketball.

Oh, I'm not arguing that UCLA or OSU are "teams for the ages" like a 99 or 01 Duke, but I definately think they faced a tougher road the 2nd year than they did the 1st. None of the teams can control how good the other teams are in any given year, they can just beat the teams they play in order to win the National Title. It's obviously hard to do back to back regardless of if their are "teams for the ages" in the field as it hasn't been done very often. Like I said, I understood it when people said they didn't beat anybody to win it the first time, but the second time around they had the bullseye on them and they still beat UCLA and OSU.

What does all this prove? They were the best team in the land the last two years...it would be interesting if the 4 jrs came back next year and they won it 3 times in a row. Would folks just say it was a down 3 years of college basketball?

Florida beat UCLA twice in the Final 4. If not for the Gators, they may have won 2 in a row. I think the Gators can claim to have beaten another great team on their run.

Florida has had a great run. Putting them up against other teams is not fair, because they can't help they were in a situation when CB was down a lil bit. They took full advantage and beat UCLA like a drum twice. I think them beating OSU two times was better than clobbering UCLA two times. UCLA just didn't show up for either game.

Remember this is based on teams PER YEAR. Not counting the previous year before that. So, in that case the 2006 Gators and the 2007 Gators are different teams.

IMO, I think 2001 Duke or the 2005 Heels team smokes the 2007 Gators. It's really hard to predict these kinds of matchups. But if we're just going purely on roster, talent, and coaching without looking at the accolades or accomplishments, the 01 Duke or 05 UNC team has the edge over either 06 or 07 Gators.

                  I would probably go.

                  1. Duke
                  2. Florida
                  3. Michigan State
                  4. UConn
                  5. Carolina
