Bigs should have to set their feet, scan the floor, and actually have to THINK about where they're going to pass the ball. This would also necesitate the option for all bigs after every rebound, to never have to bring the ball down past their shoulders if they don't want to. Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds need to only be able to be stripped if the big puts the ball on the floor.
Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.

Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
Currently, big men can grab a rebound and queue a 90 foot pass before they land with the ball. They don't have to upgrade passing, just have Break Starter on bronze and it will hardly ever sail out of bounds.

Lol oh man... Jeebs. Been a while.
Question. Should EVERY big man be able to do that? Or should ONLY Nikola Jokic, the best passing big man in the NBA be able to pull that off?
Jokic prolly has a 90 passing rating. I'm good with that of only HIM and a handful of ELITE PGs can do that.Comment

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
Lack of bad passes and incompetent transition defense make the "2K pass" (my name for the instance people get a rebound and simply fire the ball down-court) among the worst plays in the game.

You nailed it. It should be low percentage even among the guys who can pull it off. More turnovers from long passes that go out of bounds. Its my #1 Deal-Breaker going into 2K21...Its been 6 years, i'm not playing another 2K game where transition defense is this bad.NOTE: Any and ALL of my suggestions are specifically and only related to Play Now Online.Comment

Jokic and Kevin Love come to mind when it comes to this skill. Probably HOF for both.

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
But once again... The point still stands that this shouldn't even be half the population of big men in 2k. There should be 5 bigs max in the 2k default roster with this ability. If every big can do it in the MyPlayer community next year as well it's gonna suck.
If someone wants to do this, they should have to make a Jokic build. The post scorer pie chart gives you a very high pass rating potentially. This should cost you defensive ability drastically as Jokic isn't a great defender.
There needs to be real consequences to the builds and play style of bigs in general. Right now, a skilled player could potentially play lock down D with Nikola Vucevic[sp?] If they were good enough on the sticks. Jarett Allen should require great skill to play with as he's not tremendously athletic, or a great passer. But he can lock down the paint as good as anyone. Running PNR with Jarett Allen should require a very skilled ball handler, as Allen has repeatedly shown to be a middling roll threat even. And with zero midrange or post game, if you choose to play him over DeAndre Jordan there should be vast differences between the two.
Right now, in 2k if you're tall you can play defense 1-5. This is fiction. Tall does NOT equal good D. Players like Eric Bledsoe, Victor Oladipo, are almost as stout defensively as a PG13, but Paul George is 6'8... Lmfao...
I've preached height/weight and physicals need to be WAY more important in almost every thread I've created.
Being careful to separate the wheat from the chaff is all I'm aiming at.Comment

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
Not only should deep outlet pass success be nerfed, but 2K21 should also remove the RB, LB button combo that lets the game automatically throw the ball to the furthest downcourt teammate without the rebounder having to make any downcourt reads or decide which icon to pass to.
Outlet passing in 2K is a completely skilless and braindead part of the game (get ball, immediately press RB + LB, get instant 90-foot assist, repeat after every rebound) that any big man with the bronze breakstarter badge and a 50+ pass rating can consistently excel at when in real hoops it's a rare play that only a few players in the NBA would attempt less than a dozen times in two or three weeks of scheduled games. Yet playing as a big in 2K you'll probably have completed a dozen full court primary & secondary assists by halftime in your first game of the night if you're doing a good job of cleaning up the defensive boards.Last edited by jyoung; 08-22-2020, 08:49 PM.Comment

One 5 minute quarter game you'll see more full court outlet passes than you'll see all season from 30 teams playing 82 games. Not only should deep outlet pass success be nerfed, but 2K21 should also remove the RB, LB button combo that lets the game automatically throw the ball to the furthest downcourt teammate without the rebounder having to make any downcourt reads or decide which icon to pass to.

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
Icon passing is the only one hard to pick off.
You dont even need a badge to do that.
All other passes are easy to intercept if you are not playing on a big that is.
Most of those passes also go out of bound if there is someone who got back in time.
Quite frankly in JRC its pretty much a lack of anticipation in transition defense that is the cause.
For pno its pretty much people not using limit transition and playing crash the boards...

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
My favorite part about this thread is everyone saying it needs to be nerfed from 2K20 (which I agree with) while Wang has already said making these passes easier and more accurate was one of their priorities this year. Gonna be a lot of complaints up in here lol

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
NO KIDDING. Its my #1 Deal-Breaker that determines whether I buy this year. I won't play another 2K game where you can launch full court passes at will without a large amount of bad pass turnovers and steals by competent transition defense. The early results don't look good:

We need to slow passes over distance. 1) Korver should be getting back facing the ball and 2) The ball gets there too quickly for Marvin Williams to react.NOTE: Any and ALL of my suggestions are specifically and only related to Play Now Online.Comment

BUT if those streak routes consistently end up as attempts over two players selling out to protect the paint, I can meet 2K halfway. That's a miss in PNO.
I spent some time putting pressure on transition D in my 3rd game and I liked a lot of what I saw....also saw some persistent issues.
Again, true test will be vs. a human though.
I look forward to your next videos.Comment

Re: Outlet passes should be timing and rating based.
A real problem with these 90 foot no look outlet passes is that they are more accurate than half court passes where you’ll have a guy cutting to the basket, but your pg with a 90 pass rating passes the ball behind the cutter right to the defender for a steal.
Passing in this game is one of its worst aspects.
30 pass rating center can throw a dot on a rope 90 feet without lookin to a guy that’s double covered, yet a pg with a 90 pass rating can’t throw an accurate 3 foot pass.
